Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

Cooley's career average is 55-607-6. IMO, that would be an absolute minimum, and a somewhat disappointing season.

The main question is how many targets Cooley will see. He's averaged 99 targets the last two seasons. TEs have broken 100 targets 19 times the last three seasons and four of those have been Al Saunders' TEs (Gonazalez 3, Cooley 1). Cooley should easily be second on the team in targets behind Moss. Entering the second year of Saunders' offense and a full offseason with Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised if Cooley flirted with 110-120 targets.

Assuming that, I see Cooley pulling down about 75 receptions for about 850 yards. I don't see a big bump in TDs, though, assuming a healthy Portis and a continued emphasis on the running game. He's had 6, 7, and 6 TDs the last three years, so I'll give him a nice trend and go with 7 TDs.

So, I'm seeing 75-850-7 and another top 5 finish.

If there were personality points, he'd be TE1.

I love Chris Cooley's prospects this year. He is very quick in the middle of the field. He is in an offense that utilizes the Tight End frequently. He has never missed a game in his three seasons in the NFL. He has a young QB that he seemed to "connect" with at the end of 06 and most experts are skeptical of his QB's potential effectiveness which may let him slip a little in drafts. He seems to be about TE #8 or so in the ADPs, whereas he has finished as #4 and #5 in the two previous seasons. I think that his numbers rise slightly in 07, rather than dip as some seem to think.

04 - 56 targets 37 catches 314 yards (8.5 ypc) and 6 TDs

05 - 103 targets 71 catches 774 yards (10.9 ypc) and 7 TDs

06 - 95 targets 57 catches 734 yards (12.9 ypc) and 6 TDs

I really like that upward trend in yards per catch.

Chris Cooley 110 targets 77 catches (12.9 ypc) 993 yards and 8 TDs

 Average = absolute min?Figure a similar year to the last 2. Which aint bad. He's a good cheaper option at TE.
Barring an injury, yes, I consider that to be an absolute minimum. His average the last two years is 64-754-6.5. That's a 16% increase in receptions over his career average and a 24% increase in yards over his career average. What would be your absolute minimum, assuming a full season?

One of the "safest" TE picks out there and you can get him later than most other TE1s. Im not crazy about his upside. In other words I dont think he has a chance to put up top 3 numbers but I am definitely gonna target him late. EDIT: I didnt realize he was TE#4 & 5 the last 2 years. I guess he does have good upside. Im def. looking to grab Cooley as my TE.

60 rec, 700 yds, 7 tds

I'd say the 400/4 range. Skins have a very suspect passing game and Gates he is not.

If their passing game is suspect this year, what was it last year?
