Anyone have any poker room recommendations? Going there in early November for SEMA and would really like to play in a few tournaments. Never played in Vegas before.

My favorites are Bellagio and MGM. Also liked Binions, Venetian and LVHilton. Did not like: Rio, Monte Carlo, Luxor.

I was just there a couple weeks ago for the first time...through recommendations in this thread played at Bellagio and enjoyed it. 1/2 NL Hold Em ($200 max. Buy in)...play tight and only play monster hands equals hours of entertainment with free booze drinks and can make a few bucks. Didn't play in any tourneys, but heard the venetian is the place for those.

Venetian has a nice structure. I may hit AC for a few nights this week, I can stay at Harrah's for $77/night or Borgata for about $40-50 more. Is Harrah's a dump? How's the pool and the poker at each?

Harrahs is really nice since they redid it. the pool is trashy, perfect place to hang out if single and trying to hook up :P It's actually a nice area but the crowd there is pretty over the top clubby, not jersey shore fools but close. Borgata is the only "Vegas" casino in AC, still the best in AC right now. I stay at harrah's all the time because of comps and like it ;) Hooked on flop poker an awful table game that I love.

There is an 11:00 am tournament for $65 at the MGM. Decent action, not too expensive. Good, cheap tournament experience.

That would be perfect. The only problem with that is I'll be at a convention all week during the day. I've heard about some late evening tourneys. Know anything about anything like that?

It depends on how much you want to spend. Just about every poker room has tourneys but the structures in most suck. When I play in tourneys I do it at the Venetian now. I really like their structure a lot better than most other places. Their schedule is HERE.

Buying plane tickets this weekend and making reservations for 3rd week of March. Plans are to stay at Aria, see the other half of the Strip we didn't get to see last June, and catch Zumanity and Celine Dion shows.

Heading out this week with a bunch of couples, staying at the MGM Grand. We haven't been out there in almost 10 years so we are looking for a few suggestions. Sushi Bar: Steak House: Must see attractions during the day other than the pools: Club Suggestions for those in their late 30's to mid 40's: What to bring to the pawn shop to get us on TV: Whats the going rate for tipping every leach that approaches you at the hotel?

What you've just said ... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul..

Whats the going rate for tipping every leach that approaches you at the hotel?

I generally tip the shuttle guy 5 bucks and then carry my own bags to my room. If I actually needed a guy to bring our bags up, I give him 20. If I'm getting a cab I tip the cab stand guy 5 bucks. When you're checking in put $30 behind your license when you hand it over and ask if any upgrades are available (if you're interested in a nicer room / better view) You can also tip at the tables if you're doing well. If the point number for craps is 8 I like to play "two way hard eight" and throw two $5 chips down. When you do that, one of the bets is for you and one is for the guys working the table. There's also a way to set the chips when you're playing blackjack that involves dealer play, but not coming to me right now. When I'm at the sportsbook betting on college basketball I always tip the guy 5 for my initial daily bets, but I'm doing a lot of money line / parlay / first half ATS first half O/U so I make the guy work. They'll generally fix you up with some drink tickets when you tip (depending on the book). Hope that helps.

well then, no need to consider my thoughts on this policy any longer...i'll take the opposite of what FBG's greatest fisherman (aka Stat) is having.

the only fishing he does is getting people to believe he is only fishing.

At craps, my dad always does this and my buddy on his own has been doing this, they ask the craps dealers, "Where do you want this?" everytime that have said ,"right next to yours on the pass line." I usually put a dollar down on the pass line and put $1 odds for 4 or 10 or $2 on 5 or 9 for the dealers, they really seem to like that.

Blackjack you tip half on half off the betting circle closest to the dealer.

The Pawn Stars show is staged. They don't have cameras rolling when you walk in there. They set up people before hand and then have them come in and film it. We stopped by there last year, and it wasn't very crowded and no cameras. We did see a few of the employees that are on TV. Its actually a very small store, looks bigger on TV. So zero chance of walking in and getting on TV, but might be worth a quick trip to check it out if you watch the show.

Blackjack you tip half on half off the betting circle closest to the dealer.

:P Even if it's all the way out front that's fine. The dealer will know what you're doing (and appreciate it). Some dealers are adimant against playing along so I'll often ask them if they mind riding along. Some will choose to keep the tips. Those dealers are usually boring and I'll usually get up front the table at the first cold snap... whereas with a fun dealer I'll usually stay through a cold deck or two.

It's about a $25 ride from the strip to downtown. If you haven't been downtown, I highly recommend going, and go at night. It's a much different vibe, but a lot of fun. I leave next Friday and staying at the Golden Nugget. You won't find many $5 tables at the Nugget, but they are usually available in all of the other casino's.

Yeah, I'm definitely spending a day down there. Looks like there's a ton of cheap food specials at the various downtown casinos too. Should be a fun time.

Thanks.

1. See Woz

2. Eat at least a couple good meals. I can recommend a few. Most are off-stip, but I'm assuming you're not renting a car.

3. Your lady probably wants to see a show or go to a club. They are expensive, but quite fun.

Going for the 1st time over Thanksgiving and I'll be staying at MGM.

Anything that I HAVE to go see or do?

Where are the cheap ($5) blackjack tables (location and times it's $5)?

Thanks.

1. See Woz

2. Eat at least a couple good meals. I can recommend a few. Most are off-stip, but I'm assuming you're not renting a car.

3. Your lady probably wants to see a show or go to a club. They are expensive, but quite fun.

You should bring the ex just for schtick value. :lmao:

I will check, but I think she works all day Thanksgiving.

As usual, Woz is right.

Going to a wedding at the Monte Carlo in Feb. What is the best place to find deals on hotels/flights. I will be there for three nights and want to stay near the Monte Carlo. I get comps for the Harrahs properties, can probably stay almost free at flamingo, ballys, etc. but I have heard it is sometimes better to book hotel/flight together. TIA

From what I've seen, you're better off booking separately if you can get the free or discounted rooms at the Harrahs properties.

I think Cantor is going to make a boatload of money off of their gambling tablets:

“My competitors want to hold 6 percent on a couple million dollars,” he says. “I’m looking to hold 2 percent on a couple billion dollars. Which would you rather have?”

I saw this article and it made me want to go to M the next day. Sounds awesome.

Hey man, wish we could have played a bit more to take down (or least make money off of) that 8 seat, but regardless that was fun.

As usual, Woz is right.

Good read, thanks.

Stayed at Bally's in the North Tower a week ago. First time I've stayed there in 6 or 7 years, the room I had was a lot nicer than the dumpy south tower one I had way back when. One of the other guests at a craps table told me the south tower was still old and dumpy but can't comment for certain. Bigger than the standard rooms I've had at Flamingo, Harrah's and the Mirage in the last year. Not as large as the Rio standard room but I would say it was on par quality-wise. Ordered room service at one point and it wasn't half bad (half a rotiessire chicken.) Not outstanding either, but at least the prices weren't outrageous. It was cheaper than a buffet at the least. Did dinner at Voodoo Lounge in Rio and then walked upstairs to the club. Thought it was excellent food (had the bone-in ribeye and a seafood sampler as an appetizer,) but I did feel the menu was kind of limited. Unfortunately for the club, it was cold and really windy so not a lot of folks outside on the roof, everyone crowded indoors. One of the girls with me won $1,500 on a penny slot Wheel of Fortune machine. She started with $20, how does that happen?

I don't know if this has already been added to the thread but check HERE for good Vegas hotel deals. It's a moderated thread where only deals are posted. You can sometimes get some really good deals there.

Sportsbook.com live betting used to be on well into the 4th quarter when it was obvious which numbers would come into play. They never adjusted for this and got murdered week in and week out by sharps coming in the 4th Quarter. Eventually they just turned off live betting in the 4th quarter rather than get a solid algorithm.

There need to be some things worked out, but i would think a system could be developed to do this more or less automatically.

Did you play anymore the rest of the weekend? That brief session has given me the itch back to play more often.

Unfortunately, no. That was the only poker I played the whole time I was there. I'll probably hit up the dog track this Friday for some 1/2 NL.

South Tower is awful... I had a free week and they booked us there, we went up to our room, called and asked ofr North immediately. South was a dump and this was in July

My wife is pregnant and has been talking about wanting to get one last good poker weekend in before the baby comes. I have a feeling it may be our last Vegas trip for a couple of years and I want to make it a good one. I'm really considering Vdara but don't want to stay there if it sucks. Anyone here have any first hand experience with Vdara?
