Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. I like Henderson alot this year. I believe hes going to be the starter most of the year as Meachem learns the NFL. Copper started last year over Henderson because he knew the WR position opposite Colston better but I believe they will use the preseason to groom Henderson into that position. Henderson is a deep threat in the vein of Bernard Berrian and I expect similar solid yet inconsistent numbers this year in this high powered attack.

Henderson is a big play WR - he won't catch a lot of Balls behind Bush and Colston but when he does he will make an impact

Henderson is Donte Stallworth all over again.

He can get deep and he can find the trainers table.

I think he imporves his strength and conditioning enough to keep from issing to many games. Horn leaving is his big up tick.

Brees and Payton will make more us of him as another option besides Colston and the running backs is needed. Eric Johnson is not that answer.

His issue, and our concern, is him being able to keep Terrence Copper on the sideline. He can't coastin the preseason.

The New Orleans Saints were fifth in the NFL in passing attempts in 06, 4th in passing TDs, and 1st in passing yardage. They will remain effective passing the ball in 07, but look for their team ranking in all of these categories to drop. The Saints defense is improved this season, Reggie Bush is more experienced (less dancing, more running) and Deuce McAllister is another year removed from his knee surgery. They also drafted Antonio Pittman, who should be a more effective 3rd RB than Stecker was in 06.

I say all of that to say that there will be more running by the Saints in 06 and that will mean less passing. Now, consider who Brees passed to in 06. I was surprised by some of these numbers. Looking at Saints targets in 06:

Bush 121 - an amazing 21.2%

Other RBs 92 - WOW, another 16.1%

TEs 71 - 12.4% and could be higher with Johnson added

Colston 115 - 20.2% and he missed a couple of games

Horn 61 - 10.7% He's gone

Henderson 55 - 9.6%

Copper 42 - 7.4%

Jamal Jones 10 - 1.7%

Other WRs 3 -

I think that the RB targets will remain a very high percentage Bush is perhaps the best RB receiver in the NFL and Deuce is solid as well. Pittman and Stecker if he stays will also have targets. Colston will be the most involved WR. Henderson, Copper, and Meacham will all play and Jamal Jones will as well if one of the top four are injured. TE targets will remain the same or have a bigger slice of the target pie with Johnson coming over. And the passing attempts will drop to around 520, an average of 32.5 per game.

Henderson 60 targets (11.5%) 42 catches 672 yards (16.0 ypc) and 5 TDs

 
If (big if)Henderson can stay healthy he's going to be undervalued big time. In a PPR league he was #21 in games he played. I think he's definitely the #2 Fantasy WR on the saints.

Not seeing a lot of Devery chatter, so I figured I'd bump this thread.

Here's the deal. Like many other Peyton Manning owners, I had to pay the price later in my draft for being the first owner to take a QB. With me, it's my WRs which are a big pile of suck. I need someone to step up and be a reliable #2 WR for me, and Henderson is one of the candidates. The others in the committee of slop? Braylon Edwards, Bobby Wade, Roddy White, Jacoby Jones and Patrick Crayton. :unsure:

I know Henderson had hammy issues (again) a couple of weeks back, but reports are that he's good to go now. When this guy is healthy, he's dynamic. And with Colston, Bush and Deuce on the field, Henderson will almost never see coverage rolled his way. So the huge question, of course, is his health. I'm WAY more concerned about that than him holding off the other receivers on the roster.

Any other Henderson owners want to chime in with thoughts or opinions?

 
His carear high in receptions is 32. The jump to #2 WR (roughly 70 receptions) seems like too large a leap for a guy that seems to be consistantly hobbled by one hamstring or another. I think McAllister gets more touches on the ground & Bush more through the air this season. I know Reggie had 80 receptions last year, but I think he exceeds that total due to the health of Henderson & Colston during the season. Meachem has done nothing this summer to convince me he will be productive in 2007, in fact it looks like David Patten has overtaken both Meachem & Copper for the #3 WR.

You're right in saying the official depth chart does not reflect this as of yoday. It's possible it never changes, but from what I'm hearing Patten has the inside track at the #3 WR spot. My point was that I see the RB's taking touches away from the WR's this season. Colston is hobbled a little, Henderson has missed quite a bit of time this summer and has never had more than 30 odd receptions in a season as a pro. Copper & Meachem aren't exactly setting the world on fire either.

The point about his prior career high in grabs is a bit unfair, as he was always behind Horn.The #2 job is now his. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in this high octane offense until he shows he can't handle it.

 
I don't see anywhere in my post that I said he wasn't the #2.

I was relaying info about David Patten possibly taking the #3 spot from Meachem & Copper.

 
There have been plenty of #3 WR's to have more than 32 receptions in a season. Heck, wasn't he the starter for six of those games in his earth shattering 2006 season?

 
If he stays healthy as the number 2 in that offense he could sleep his way to a 900 yard season... That offense, his ability to get open deep, single coverage all year long... and you have yourself a very nice number 2 receiver IMO...

He'd need close to 900/10 to finish as a low end #2, I just don't see it, even if healthy.I'd rather have guys like D.Jackson, S.Holmes. B,Berrian, L.Coles, C.Johnson. V.Jackson. R.Brown, S.Moss, B.Edwards. D.Branch etc. as my #3 WR before Henderson, forget about Henderson as my #2, that's just crazy talk. I can get Bolden, Colston, Driver, A.Johnson etc as my #2, and that's not going RB/WR/WR, if I did that I'd get guys like Roy Williams, TJ Houshman, L.Evans, J.Walker etc as my #2

Obviously this depends on league size, i play in two 14 team leagues, but even in 10 team leagues I wouldnt consider these guys all #2.... Roy Williams, TJ Houshman, L.Evans, J.Walker... Please name me 10 receivers you like better than these 4....Also, I dont think 1200 is out of the question for Devery and I see him easily finishing in the top 25.

Devery is a serviceable 3wr. Occasional bye week or flex fill-in. Having Henderson on my team is a bright spot. Compared to players mentioned:DJax...#1wr on his team. No comparison. Sant Holmes...great prospect on an emerging passing offense. haven't seen enough to say more.Berrian...value relies directly on Sexy Rexy. Not a good place. Almost a wash. Berrian runs the same routes Devery runs. Avg number of receptions with high yards per catch stat. Coles...Coles beats him in a PPR league. Will have more yardage. But Devery will have more TDs. If your team can afford to semi-gamble at the #3 wr position. Start Devery over Coles. Do you want 7 points or a possible 13(devery)CalvinJ. wait and see.V-Jax. Rivers loves throwing him the ball in the endzone outside the 16-20 yard line. Most his TDs will come from outside the 15 yard line. Seems to be their comfort zone. Will get much more targets than Devery.Reggie Brown. Not a fan..yet.Santana Moss. Ive him in the tier above this one. Braylon. Almost the same situation as coles. But ahead of Devery. Branch. I have branch at the backend of #2 wrs in a 12 teamer. Devery is a decent wr prospect for dynasty leagues too. Great trading chip, coming or going to add into a package.

If he is truly healthy, Henderson could/should have a very good year. I look a lot at the QBs and the offense ...and NO should have a strong passing game. So who's going to get those throws and TDs? True, Bush will 'vulture' a number of the passing TDs. But if Henderson is the #2 WR, well, Indy's #2 WR sure gets a lot of love - NO's #2 deserves some as well.

I could easily see 1,000 yards and 6-7 TDs.

I like the potential of S Holmes ...but PIT isn't a dominant passing team (though I expect a big return of big Ben), and of Berrien ...but it's inconsistent Grossman. I believe Henderson, with Brees at QB, is undervalued by many.

 
He has a pretty favorable matchup week 1 and a primetime game. I have a pretty weak WR corps in 1 league. In fact after Javon Walker I don't have much - Edwards, Coles, and Henderson. I'm going with Henderson this week based on the matchups the other two guys have. Henderson is not the most talented but he has the best matchup.

 
I like Henderson a lot this year and thinl he will make a push for 1,000 yds and 7-8 TD pretty easily. He also is a 50 yard take it to the House guy so you don't need him to catch a lot of passes to inflict damage which is rare. He can have several 3/75/1 type of games.

You misinterpreted the post. I said if I went RB/WR/WR I could have either of those four as MY #2 (behind the WR I took in the 2nd rd ie. Harrison, Wayne, SS, CJ, Owens etc.)
 
All I'm saying is that anyone that is comfortable with Devty Henderson as your #2 WR is :)

I would be unhappy with my corps if he was my #3

 
FWIW, I've changed my opinion on Devery. After seeing Brees work in the preseason, he's going to distribute the ball alot. The saints have 4 capable WRs (5 if you include Meachem) plus Bush, McAllister and Eric Johnson who can catch passes. Couple that with Devery's health issues (never played a full season) I have moved him down the rankings.

Sure he'll go off of a few big games, but I think at the end of the day, he won't outperform his ADP.

1. I don't think he'll play all 16 games2. He's more valuable to the Saints in the slot than on the outside, b/c of his speed3. Patten/Moore have had very good camps4. Bush is the "true #2 receiver"Just b/c his is listed on the depth chart as the #2, doesn't necessarily mean he is going to be the #2 WR in fantasy points......but even if he is, I think that he is overvalued at this point.Just my opinion......I have two friends who are beat writers for the Saints for different papers, and they'll both be at my local draft tomorrow. I'll ask them for validation
