Couch: One last comeback (1 Viewer)

Sorry if this is a Honda, but here's a blurb about Couch giving it one more go in the NFL. Pretty interesting about his size and body fat, and more importantly, that he has been throwing pain free for nearly a year. I always liked this guy and hope he can make it back. Here's the blurb.

NFL | Couch attempting final comeback

Fri, 20 Jul 2007 10:08:42 -0700

WKYT.com reports free-agent QB Tim Couch (Packers) says he is attempting a comeback and has contacted every NFL team looking for work. Couch says he has bulked up to 245 pounds and has lowered his body fat to 5 percent. Couch added he will attempt one final comeback and if he cannot land a job he will walk away from the game. Couch has been working with a personal trainer, rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder in Miami. He says he has been throwing pain free for the better part of the past year.

Medically, I just don't know anymore. Wasn't Brees and/or Pennington supposedly done. I guess it's possible....

SEC = Conference of out of work QBs
Pac 10= Damon Huard(if he can beat out SEC QB, Brodie Croyle), Matt Leinhart, Carson Palmer, Joey Harrington(if Vick doesn't play)SEC= Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell, Rex Grossman, Eli Manning, Peyton ManningEdge.... SECOh, and perhaps the biggest NFL quarterback bust of all time? Ryan Leaf (Washington State)

COuch has to understand that it will be tough for an NFL team to invite him to camp to compete for a spot. Thats investing a lot of reps for a guy who has been out of the league for a while. He should have went the Tommy Maddox route and played for whatever professional league that would sign him. Prove you worth in the CFL/NFL Europa/AFL, and then maybe a team will come calling.

I live in FL near IMG academy. Ran into one of Couch's trainers at Leroy Selmons and he raved about how good Couch looked.

NTTAWWTI agree with the Tommy Maddox plan. But, who wouldn't try to hit the NFL first?Arena league, here he comes.

I wish him well but I don't think anything will come of it. I hope he invested his money wisely.
Me too. I just hope his '99 payday didn't fly into the '00, '01 and/or '02 stock market.

Absolutely, the NFL is more attratcive. But you have been out of football for 2 years, and you expect a team to give valuable training camp reps to a player who hasn't done anything meaningful in about 5 years? Try to showcase your skills in another pro league.

I am certainly pulling for Couch. I don't think his time in Cleveland can be blamed entirely on him. As an orginization, when you miss on 3 straight first rounders (see Courtney Brown, Gerrerd Warren, and William Green), it can cripple a team. Especially an expansion team. perfect example is David Carr. I am glad to see him get a second chance in Carolina.

I agree with you guys completely. Go to NFL europe and prove that you are capable of playing in this league again. I mean if Chris weinke can hold a roster spot for as long as he has, there is room somewhere for Couch.

I forgot to add, I am definitely rooting for Couch. For some reason I always root for the players in sports that attempt to come back from a layoff.

he should come to the CFL and the Calgary Stampeders and battle it out with Akili Smith for the backup role.

first, it's not like couch was ryan leaf bad. in fact, his lifetime stats are actually pretty decent. especially when you consider what he had to work with. he's got a lifetime 60% completetion rate, and a 64 - 67 td/int. i believe his QB rating is around 75. other QB's with the same lifetime rating are kitna, carr, grossman, and plummer. we're not talking HoF'ers here, but viable quarterbacks non the less. if healthy, he's got to be at least as good, or better than harrington ( 68 QB rating). i always thought couch's biggest problem was heart. i don't think he showed alot of that, or leadership. if jeff george can keep finding a roster spot, i don't see why couch can't. if he is indeed healthy.

Sounds like the lightbulb finally went on and he realized if he wants to compete in the NFL, he has to take steroids like everyone else.

Here'a blurb reporting he has signed a two year deal in Jacksonville. Cool, I hope he makes it back.

Jaguars | Couch agrees to two-year deal

Josh Peter, of Yahoo! Sports, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent QB Tim Couch on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Couch, a former No. 1 pick overall, has not been in the league since 2004.
