Where is the Matt Leinart Bandwagon? (1 Viewer)

I've been a big Leinart fan since he started a USC. Always thoght he had what it takes to be a successful NFL QB. I know it's very en vogue to hate on Hollywood Matt, and I fully understand that stance. All my friends hate the guy (part of the reason I like him so much I suppose :lmao: )

But from a strictly fantasy POV, why aren't people all over this guy? I'm surprised at the total lack of buzz. To me, he has a HUGE ceiling. If there is any QB in that QB 8-12 range who has the potential to blow up and be a Top 3-5 stud, it's Leinart.

All it took was that Bears game last year for me to believe that Leinart is going to have a big time NFL career.

And now I'm watching the SD game on tivo, and he looks like a total stud in waiting. He just threw a BOMB to Bryant Johnson in the 2 mintue drill in tight coverage. (oops was just overturned but he should have caught it and doesn't change the fact that it was another big time pass from Leinart!) Almost 200+ yards in one half vs. SD. He just looks like the real deal.

I know a lot of folks believe that Wisenhunt is going to be a run run run coach, but you play with the players you go. Everyone thought Billick was going to instill a verticle game in Baltimore, but it never happened, he didn't have the players. Could likely have the same thing in AZ. If you have that talent in the passing game, you aren't going to be a run first team. I just don't see it.

Anyway, am I alone in this? Can't help but look at Leinart and see the Carson Palmer situation all over again the year before he became a stud.

The Matt Leinart bandwagon is trying to keep their friggin' mouth shut so there's atleast one nice sleeper QB to pick up late in drafts.....delete this thread already.

Absolutely agree. But in general I think some of the younger QBs (Leinart, Smith) are underrated this year while older ones (McNabb, Kitna) are overrated.

That opinion applies to redrafts, but I think it's especially true in keeper/dynasty. I'd give an arm and a leg to get Leinart in dynasty right now, and if I can convince the guy who owns him to part with him at a decent price I'll probably do just that.

Leinart is going to be a very, very good one. Don't be shocked to see him finish top5 in QBs.

I can give you a good surgeon referral if you'd like. :lmao:But I agree that young QBs are the value play this year. Older guys like Hasslebleck and McNaggingInjury are getting too much Safe Pick love where the younger guys like Leinart & Cutler are being neglected.

Its definitely a good year to NOT take a QB until atleast round 6. That's about the where Id personally be looking to draft Leinart in a 12 team draft. Not a minute sooner.....or a minute later.

 I'm on board.

In redrafts I've waited until about 8-9 other QBs were off the board and still had the option of Leinart, Hasslebeck, and Cutler. I've acquired him in a dynasty league as well. He's got all the intangibles and the best WR combo in the league. Even though the staff wants to go to a run heavy offense, you can't just leave your best talent unused.

I have to admit that I am a Matt Leinart owner, so perhaps I'm seeing the glass as half full. But he came into the NFL as an extremely efficient QB. Even in a run heay offense, Leinart can still be expected to have in the vicinity of 500 attempts. At a 60% completion rate, that' still 300 completions and with the WR's he has I expect a high YPA. So you could see Leinart put up 3600-3700 yards. Given the difficulty the Cards have historically had in short yardage, Leinart might also experience a bump in TD numbers as he feasts off a bunch of 2 yard play-action fake TD tosses.

Very bullish. :)

Probably the only good D's he faces this year. I am on board all the way!

I waited on QB in my main local league and ended up with Lienart and Cutler. I was disappointed after the draft, but I think I may have done alright. Lienart did look good the other night, and his WRs are top shelf. I really wonder what Wisenhunt has planned offensively for the season. He should be looking to turn Fitz, Boldin and Johnson loose and gun it. I hope that's the case and not an ultra-conservative approach. Time will tell.

I'm in, but I don't think we can call him a sleeper anymore. He's got a premium asking price in my leagues.

I've been on that bandwagon since before the draft last season! :football:

I'm with ya!

without a doubt, he will win an NFL MVP long before Vince Young ever does..

Watch for the Cards to be this year's version of what the Saints were last year, i.e., the team that comes out of nowhere to win 10+ games, to everyone's surprise..

I'm in, as a believer in Leinart's talent since day one, with Boldin, Fitz and B.Johnson, he plays for me this year full time with JP Losman and Grossman as insurance. No easy task to love Leinart as a Cal Bears fan, but he can play. Dynasty Squad:QBs:Leinart, Losman, Grossman, T.Green.RBs: W.Parker, R.Brown, DeShuan, A-Train, C.Sapp, IronsWRs: Colston, Hines Ward, VJAX, Northcutt, S.Rice, T.Perry, J.Gaffney, Sin.Moss, C.RobuyTEs: Witten, Mcmicahel, K.Boss D.Akers, J.Scobey at K

:goodposting: I am with you man, Leinart will be a stud in this league and I am still mad my Raiders passed him up and now we have to deal with the debacle known as Jamarcus Russell.

Gotta play devil's advocate here. The offensive line still sucks. The Cardinals were a top 10 passing offense last season but points were hard to come by because they couldn't run at all. If they can prove me wrong and have at least a mediocre running game then there might be something there. Until then I can't say that I'm on board the bandwagon. Sorry.

Where are people getting Leinart in drafts held the last week or so?
I just finished my Dynasty start up draft.QB's went very quick and I was able to grab him at 7.05Could not be happier. I have Rex as my only backup.

12 team draft, FBG scoring, non-ppr I got him as my second QB at 9.04 :hifive: .... I would expect him to go from rounds 7-9 depending on league. I got a steal.

I'm in a draft right now (14 teams). Leinart went at 6.02 as the 12th QB off the board.
I'd be very happy with that. IMO, he's just a little behind VY, perhaps equal. yet he usually gets drafted a few rounds behind him from what I've seen. All the hype has gone to VY, but Leinart has been surprisingly quiet. Aside from not being a human highlight reel, I don't know what else can be asked of him.

I'm on board. I don't own the guy in any league but I think he has too many weapons not to be a stud. It may not be this year, but for years to come he will be.

And I think the line will be much better this year with new management in town....

I'm on board.I was thinking of waiting until the 7th rd (I have the 10th pick), but I guess it is looking like he may be gone by then. I guess you are right - if you want him, you better take him in the 6th rd.

BTW, my draft is a 12-teamer
