Reuben Droughns-RB-Giants Aug. 26 - 5:17 pm et

Newsday doesn't believe Reuben Droughns is in danger of being passed on the depth chart.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Derrick Ward, and Ryan Grant have all outperformed him in the preseason, but the Giants like the idea of having a proven player behind first-year starter Brandon Jacobs. NBC's John Madden recently threw out the idea that Tom Coughlin would prefer Ward to be his second-stringer.Source:Newsday

I'm not sure where he got this, and it's not mentioned in the Newsday article. The article makes it clear that Bradshaw and Ward have out played Droughns.

Madden should stick to selling football games.

You think Coughlin might have hinted to Madden he prefers Ward as the backup?

Regardless what who thinks what about whom, talent will dictate this in the end.

FWIW, as a big time Giants fan, I think Ward would be a better option than Droughns and we would have to see if that would be apparant to the coach as well.

How bad is Ward's ankle? Not that it matters, but I'm down to my final roster cut and trying to decide whether to keep Ward. I've liked his talent since he entered the NFL, but he hasn't exactly done much in the NFL.

I really don't know about his ankle, sorry. But he has definately showed a lot of flashes... but usually flashes are just that.

On the ESPN Radio (NY) updates they've been saying that the Giants fullback has a knee injury and there is comtemplation of converting Droughns to fullback. They did not quote a particular source.

eta - this is all i found

"But Robert Douglas, the only fullback on the roster, will need arthroscopic surgery after suffering a knee injury against the Jets.

Halfback Reuben Droughns will play some fullback in the preseason finale Thursday against the Patriots in New England. "

Maybe, or it could have come out in a conversation between Madden and the Turdukin. Much respect for him in his prime but that guy isn't all there anymore.

Derrick Ward-RB- Giants Sep. 6 - 9:46 am et

The most recent depth chart released by the Giants has Derrick Ward, not Reuben Droughns, listed as the team's No. 2 running back.

Droughns is a relatively big name thanks to back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons in 2004 and 2005, but always represented less of a threat to RB Brandon Jacobs' workload than most believed. NBC Sunday Night Football analyst John Madden nailed it last month when he opined that coach Tom Coughlin preferred Ward over Droughns as Jacobs' backup, but barring an injury Ward's fantasy value figures to be minimal.

All of this makes me much more comfortable taking Jacobs in the 4th. :P I owned Droughns last year and cleared him from the roster in week 4 to pick up MJD. Someone else picked him up but he sat the pine the rest of the season. He is not the 2004-2005 guy.

I love Madden.....still after all these years. The guy might be old, but he knows football.
He's definitely old school, but he does have some young generation fans. I liked him better when he wasn't as famous and a little sharper behind the mike. Age is catching up to Madden just like it did with Summerall, but not to that degree yet.

So Jacobs owners...who are you carrying....Drougns or Ward?
Neither.
:bag:
Oh I don't know about that. Ward has some untapped talent.
:headbang: :fishing: Maybe, just maybe, Ward may be the best sleeper RB in FF this year. I refused to drop him in my dynasty league. I really don't know why, but I really like this kid. Same way I liked Willie Parker, only difference is I won't drop Ward.

What do you think now?
I think you're a geek for bumping a "how do you like me now?" thread.HTH.
anyone with an avatar from an old superman movie is more of a geek than someone who bumps a thread.Edit - Actually it wasn't an "I told you so thread", it was a thread providing info that may indicate a difference of opinion on who the backup to Jacobs is. It sounded as if Madden was on to something.
