Game Thread - ATL @ MIN (1 Viewer)

Can't wait for the start of the MIN season so we can all see ADP in action. Finally.

Especially since I am starting him against Shick! in No Mercy this week!

Here's to hoping for a good game.. :crossesfingers: ...:knocksonwood: :grabsluckyrabbitfoot:

Not just because I am a Viking fan :football: But because my Mother In-law decided to pick today of all days to hold a Birthday party for my Father In-law( his Birthday isn't until Wednesday Dang it :) )..

To make matters worse, it will be one Viking fan( yours truly) vs. 7 Packer fans. (Putting on my 2nd layer of skin now as I will need it :lmao: ))

Unfortunitly AFN will not be picking up this game so anyone thats watching your comments will be greatly apprechiated.

I think the Vikings will be able to dominate both lines of scrimage in this game. The Falcons are transitioning from a ZBS to more power oriented style of blocking. They have not upgraded thier offensive line personel enough yet to achieve this transition well. Rookie Justin Blaylock is probobly thier most talented lineman but he is only a rookie. He will have his hands full with Kevin Williams and Fat Pat (recently given a contract extension). I expect the Vikings to get a lot of penetration up the middle as the Falcons center and guards will be dramaticly overmatched by the Vikings DT duo. The Falcons will have nowhere to run against a Vikings defense that was #1 run defense last year and has significant personel upgrades from Greenway and James now being healthy as well as more experience from thier younger players Henderson, Griffin, Ray Edwards and Udeze.

Coverage from the linebackers will be improved for the Vikings with Greenway now in the lineup. Crumpler will not have as long to break down coverage as he has in the past with Vick running around and buying time. Pass rush should be coming up the middle right in Harringtons face from the DTs. It remains to be seen how much pressure the Vikings can generate from the outside. This was a huge weakness last year. Hard to not expect at least some improvement there. Blitzing should be better with Greenway now in the lineup.

The Vikings forced a lot of turnovers last year and indications from preseason look like that will continue. I see a lot of potential for interceptions by the Viking defense against Harrington, questionable WRs and a brand new offense.

When the Vikings have the ball expect to see fundamental smash mouth football. I think the Vikings will run the ball 40 times in this game. The Falcons best defender Rod Coleman is out and plugger Grady Jackson is questionable with a back injury. Backup UT Babineaux is undersized and is going to get road graded by Hutchinson. He is going to need help. Abraham is undersized as well and McKinney should be able to have his way with him in the running game and wear him down. I do not see Abraham getting many speed rush opportunities in this game. Rookie Jamal Anderson is a good player I think but he is a rookie and I dont see him having an advantage on the other side of the line against what has been improved RT Ryan Cook and veteran Artis Hicks. The Falcons linebackers are a solid group but I expect Birk and Sause to be free much of the time to get downfield blocks on them.

I expect a TOP advantage for the Vikings as well as winning the turnover battle against a Falcons team distracted by all the Vick controversy on top of the fundamental mismatches on both lines of scrimmage. The Vikings should be able to win this game easily even if it is low scoring.

Excellent post. Thanks for writing it

FWIW, the play-by-play announcer in the game thinks that Tarvaris will start today. ;)

I wasn't very excited to watch this game until I read Biabreakable's optimistic post. Thanks, man.

Suprisingly Mewelde Moore is inactive so even if the Vikings get an early lead I see little reason to expect a 3rd Rb to enter the rotation which bodes well for Chester and AD getting ample rushing opportunities. ;)

Get Dunn out of there! 3/2/0 at end of first quarter, with a long of 5 - he's just not getting it Dunn. It is time to pass the torch to Norwood, IMO.

CT in some pain from the sideline shot.

Was grabbing left hip and grimacing as trainers working on him.

Bad play calling at the end of that offensive series coupled with the injury and holding penalty.

If your going to throw the ball on 1st and 2nd down then you need to be commited to throwing it on 3rd as well.

Atlanta is not forcing them to throw yet. That's what they need to do.
Not gonna happen.Get your bib on for some crow ScoobyDumb.
LOL. This game isn't the test.
You been bad mouthing the Vikings in reference to this game to anyone who would listen. So now your going to eat those words period.
Tarvaris looks awesome. I guess I was wrong.
