Any word on E Manning? (1 Viewer)

As a Burress owner, I am very nervous. Tests being done today?I hope it is just a "bruised" shoulder.
He'll be back next week.... they took him out because there really wasn't a point to leave him in there... if hes was seriously injuried; we would know by now.

They were down 10 with 4 minutes left and all 3 time outs.
Screw that. No need for further injury. I had my game sewed up. It was the right move. :lmao:

I realize that but the Defence had just given up another TD to Romo - I think the coaching staff decided to cut their loses (seeing as the defence couldn't stop anything) and concede the loss.

If they make these kind of decisions based on whether or not their defense is porous, they would have just forfeited the season.

Yes... but do you put your franchise player (who is hurting) back out on the field and risk the rest of the season for the 1st game; or do you pull him and save his ### for the season. I think it was a good call; we have all seen what happens when an injuried player goes back on the field and tries to make something happen... more times than not, its regretable. Remember Chris Simms... bet he wishes he stayed on the bench.

After the game last night, a reporter from WFAN said that Manning has a partially separated shoulder. Boomer came on after and said he had a similar injury which put him out 2 weeks. I DONT HAVE A LINK FOR THIS, THIS WAS ON LOCAL RADIO.

Haven't seen this anywhere so far - everything I have seen says bruise - if it is worse it is a shame - the kid finally showed glimpses.

I knew it had to be somewhat serious, the Giants still had a chance.

Agreed - you don't sit your starting QB at the end of a relatively close game (a shootout, no less)...that right there tells me Eli COULDN'T go back in the game. That said, here's hoping that it's not more than a one- or two-week injury...

Driving into the city today, I heard on our local ESPN affiliate that he was scheduled for an MRI today; but that Manning is confident it's nothing serious. Obviously Manning is no doctor, we'll know more one way or another by later today it seems.

If true, the Giants need to fire Coughlin today. What message does that send to your players? Especially your offense. You basically said "a ten point lead is insurmountable for you chumps"Eli was seriously hurt or he'd have been in there. He may be fine now, they may have been taking additional precautions based on Eli's reaction (for instance, if Eli complained of tingling or weakness or lack of feeling, they would have been fools to put him back out there).Make no mistake - they wanted him ikn the game at that point.

Don't worry, Coughlin won't have his job after this season anyways. Maybe sooner!

Manning didn't seem worried that he will miss any time. The Giants' season depends on his MRI. If he's right and there is no damage, the Giants only lost one game last night. If he's wrong and he's out for an extended period, the season could be over before it really gets started. This is the first time he's ever hurt his shoulder.

"It just feels a little tight, a little sore right now," Manning said. "I think I just bruised it. I'm still able to throw on it. I threw the last touchdown to Plaxico (Burress) on the last drive with it. So I can still make all the throws."
We'll see after the MRI.J

In 2004 Chad Pennington landed awkwardly on his arm vs. Buffalo in week 7. It was diagnosed as a "Bruised Shoulder" and he missed the next 3 weeks. He returned thereafter and only after the season did we learn he had a torn rotator's cuff and that began the downward spiral of his career.

Not saying Eli has a torn rotator cuff, but think of it like this:

He landed awkwardly on his elbow which put a lot of stress and impact on his shoulder joint. You bruise something when you get direct impact to an area, not when it is jolted because of direct impact to someplace else.

I don't know how severe the injury is, but I know that it is not a bruised shoulder. And the fact he didn't go back in when that game still could have been won, and the fact he was shaking hands after the game with his left arm and not his right arm leads me to believe that it is more then just a minor injury.

The thing here is that he still played with the shoulder injury. If he did serious damage forget it, especially to the shoulder. But Bo Jackson said he would be back next week too.

I agree.I loathe Coughlin and hate giving him props for anything,

but pulling Manning was the right move, imo.

Eli Manning should ask Brian Griese about his "I can still throw with it" rationale...

FWIW...this from PFT:

MORE BAD NEWS FOR GIANTS

On the same day that the Giants learned that starting tailback Brandon Jacobs will miss 3-5 weeks with a knee injury, it also was learned that defensive end Osi Umenyiora will be out for two months with a knee injury of his own.

But that might not be the worst news.

We're hearing an unconfirmed rumor -- and this is incredibly unconfirmed for now -- that quarterback Eli Manning might be done for the year with a shoulder injury that he suffered during a failed two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys.

Eli Manning's shoulder "appears to be OK," a person familiar with the situation informed Newsday on Monday.Newsday speculates that Manning should be set to go against the Packers, but may be limited in practice until Friday. Prepare for quite a bit of injury updates this week. Profootballtalk.com passes along an "incredibly unconfirmed rumor" that Manning's injury is much worse.Source: Newsday

DAMMIT!! This better not be true. He's one of 3 QBs I have in a start 2 dynasty league. When popsting from PFT, you should say it's PFT. This from Newsday:

I dont want to get into the usual PFT bashing here, but WHY BOTHER EVEN TALKING ABOUT a rumor if it is not only unconfirmed, but INCREDIBLY UNCONFIRMED. Why not just say heck, for all we know Eli might be out for the season. Then again he might go next week. In actuality WE REALLY DON'T FREAKING KNOW.

Terribly irresponsible of them and really rather pathetic. Unless you have SOMEthing, don't just speculate and call it news.

The MRI results on Eli Manning are in and the news was about as good as the Giants could have hoped for. He suffered only a sprained right shoulder, according to a league source. No structural damage was detected.

Manning's status for the Giants' game against the Green Bay Packers is uncertain, but the hope is that if he does miss any time it will only be a week or two at most.

The length of his absence may all depend Manning's tolerance for pain and he how he progresses as the week goes along. He will likely be very limited in practice this week, and his status for the Packers game is not likely to be known until right before kickoff.

If he is indeed healthy, it'll only be a matter of time before he DOES get hurt. With that porous offensive line he's going to look like Carr this season...

Mort reporting Eli out for at least a month with a separated shoulder although the team denies it. No labrum tear however.

ESPN now saying "Out at least a month".

Edit: OK, I'm not the only guy with ESPN on in the office all day.

Eli should be OK -- he's the only one

Reports have Osi Umenyiora out up to 8 weeks with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee and Brandon Jacobs out 3-5 weeks with a sprained right MCL.

A person familiar with Eli's shoulder injury said the QB appears to be OK, with just a bruise. He should be ready to play against the Packers, but it's doubtful he'll do much throwing this week.

More after the official word in an hour or so.
