Raiders, Russell agree in principle to dealSources say team will pay the No. 1 pick $31 million guaranteed
Don't be so sure about that.My guess is as soon as they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, we will see Russell. They need him to be ready to start next season and any playing time he can get now will help that development. This assumes the OLine can continue to show the improvement it has thus far. If they fall apart they may hold him back for his own protection.oh well he won't play this year anyways
You could take a few zeros off of that and it'd still a good deal.So he gets $31 million guaranteed and doesn't have to do anything for a year. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I tend to agree. A lot depends on how McCown does over the next few weeks. If Russell is physically ready, there's still no reason we won't see him later in the season - obviously he's the franchise QB and they're not going to risk his safety, but it could be worthwhile to get him snaps late in the season if and when they're out of it.LawFitz said:Don't be so sure about that.My guess is as soon as they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, we will see Russell. Not doubting that Kiffin may be playing games, but here's the latest news there:Rumor is McCown has a broken finger and thus Culpepper is starting this week for sure. Kiffin is playing games again and won't make it public trying to catch the Broncos off guard.FWIW.
McCown Still Raiders Starting QBDavid White, San Francisco ChronicleOakland Raiders HC Lane Kiffin has decided to stay with QB Josh McCown as the starting quarterback despite the up and down play in week one against the Detroit Lions. "Yes," Kiffin said Monday when asked if Josh McCown was still his starting quarterback. "Josh managed the game extremely well and for the most part, put the ball exactly (as) if you were playing a video game and had a joystick on him and made his decisions."
