Owen Daniels (1 Viewer)

Was he targeted at all last week? I know AJ had a huge game, so they might have went to him alot, but with no other playmaker, I thought Daniels would've had some looks too. Any Houston homers got any info on the guy?

well the chiefs have a very, very fast LB unit and O. Daniels is a decent TE but not Elite and for a TE to get away from those guys he'd either have to be Elite or Savy Vet. Against an average group LBs he should do well and get open frequently.

Are you planning on trading him along with Romo too now?

It's one week guy. Relax, your team is fine. Owens will have a decent year and your team will be OK. It's too early to panic.

Actually I picked him up off the waiver wire. I have Watson as my starter. But thanks for your concern. btw, are you stalkin me now?DaTruth

i started him.I think his targets were down/will go up for the following reasons:1. Texans were ahead for much of the game, so they were able to be conservative and didn’t have to pass in the 4th Q. While the Texans are better this year, they wont be playing from ahead every week.2. Neither of their scores came in the redzone. One was an AJ bomb and the other was a defensive score. Owen is a nice redzone option and will get looks when they get down there.3. As already pointed out, Chiefs have a nice quick LB corps.I think he will have a good year and put up lower tier TE1 numbers. First week was just not great. I found this preseason post very insightful...

I watched Matt Schaub play for the better part of two seasons in college. Here is the reason I think he succeeds as the Texans QB:- He is extremely accurate... especially to RBs in the flat (Lundy caught 63 balls his freshman season from Schaub), TEs in the seam (Schaub turned Heath Miller into an All-American) and quick outs/slants to WRs (Billy McMullen caught something like 90 balls Schaub's first season as a starter). These are the $ plays in the WCO.Those throws will also assist him in turning blitzes into positive yardage, where as Carr always seemed to take a sack. What I don't like from Schaub his ability to throw the really long ball, which is what will limit AJ and Schaub's TDs but I do love his ability to find a TE in the end zone. Therefore, Daniels is the shark move. You will get top 7 TE production at backup TE cost.I think Schaub will be a good NFL quarterback, but never more than a borderline fantasy starter.

I think Owen Daniels is going to be fine. He can run block which means he is on the field for almost every offensive play. Through the first half of the CAR game I've only counted two passing plays in which he stayed in to block. While AJ's definitely the first option on a lot of those plays, Daniels is at least running routes which means he's going to get targets. He lost a fumble on his first catch of the day, but Schaub came right back to him and he's responded well. I'm an owner (and a HOU homer), so I'm more optimistic than most, but I think Daniels will produce.

Outlook for Owens now with AJ out? Will he put up WR type numbers?
I hope so, I just scooped him up off off waivers because I don't like playing three players each week from the same team. I have Parker, Holmes & Miller and think that it works against me to start all three every week.I just hope he is the main red (end) zone target as my league is td heavy in scoring.

the TDs are hard to predict but he had success in that area last year. I think he will be very solid the rest of the year.. Someone has to score the TDs with AJ and possibly Ahman out.. He makes a great play this week.

I keep wanting to start him over Ben Watson. Outside the TDs, Watson has done nothing, but in the red zone he continues to succeed. But i doubt that will continue. I think Daniels can be a great play now with AJ out and also Green dinged up.

I think Daniels was tackled at the 1 last week if I recall correctly. Still you have to be satisfied with the receptions and yardage he is putting up. That is very nice and sustainable production from a 12th+ round TE. The TDs will come.

I think Daniels production goes down slightly

with AJ's return, but he has been a nice surprise

for the Texans as well as fantasy land.

Aj is not back and it looks like a few more weeks but even when he is ready...a connection has been formed between Shaub and Daniels that won't just disappear. A few less targets maybe, but he'll sprinkle in a TD (tackled at the one at least once this year) here and there and stay in that 6-10 tier with guys like Cooley and Shockey.

I agree with this. To say AJ is option 1, 2, 3 and 4 is shortsighted.Kevin Walter and especially Owen Daniels now have and should continue to have an important role in the Houston offense.

Andre Johnson sits out practice again - Thu Oct 18 6:57:00 p.m. ET 2007

(Rotoworld) Andre Johnson (knee) missed another practice for Houston on Thursday.

Impact: Andre is likely to sit out this week. His status for Week 8 is uncertain.

the TDs still havent come (he'll still get a few at some point), but this is about as consistent as anyone could expect a tight end to be.. esp one that came at his price on draft day..

after the quiet first week, its been..

Six team league?
No, I'm saying he is a great bye week fill in for the owners out there that are looking for someone to start since Gates and Winslow are on a bye. I'm not saying that those guys are on one team. I have Winslow in two leagues and Daniels in both as well. The Gates owner in both leagues will have to go else where....

I was just goofin but my point was that only in a 6 team league would Daniels be merely a bye-week filler. He's my starter.

Ya, unless you own Gates, Winslow or Witten this guy should be thought of as a starter over just about anyone else. People may not have drafted him that way, but if people are still starting Todd Heap or guys like that over Owens they not in touch with their team.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if Daniels is on the waiver wire in a TE required league. Means some owners are asleep at the wheel.

Yep, I have Heap and Daniels, and gave Heap the benefit of the doubt last week one last time. Zero points later, Daniels is my new starter.

He is on my WW, in a 14 team league! I have Gates, but I am 8th in line, he clears at 3am (is this correct for yahoo - anyone know??) and i will be a loser, setting my alarm, picking him up and going back to sleep

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels (ankle) practiced Thursday, Nov. 1, and is likely to play Week 9. He is day-to-day with an ankle injury.

With their bye week looming, I'm a little surprised to see this. Maybe it wasn't a true high ankle sprain then?

even a minor sprained ankle for a TE would be tough....for blocking and running routes

maybe Kubiak is playing this injury report thing even worse than Hoodie?
