Why all the ref hate for TO (1 Viewer)

First I want to say that I had TO going tonight and I had the game in hand no matter what he did. I am a TO owner but I am not biased here as I won my game with TO before the game started. But there were three calls that caught my attention:

1) The "spike" in the first quarter when TO just tossed the ball away. That was not a spike in any way.

2) TO caught the ball on the sidelines and had one foot in bounds and was pushed by the defender. This was more of a judgment call than the spike but still seemed fairly obvious to me.

3) The jump ball in the endzone to tie the game (assuming a 2 pt conversion) was broken up by a guy that never turned around to see the ball coming. Obvious pass interference call yet no call. While I think the call was bogus, Crayton getting the TD on the next play won me a game in my other main league. So, like I said, I'm not biased here for TO, but the officiating where TO was concerned was horrendous.

I will say this, the pass at the end of the game they called a non catch by TO was legit, but the three calls I mentioned above were horrible....

You don't need to spike the ball for it to be a penalty. Tossing the ball down field has the same effect and gets the same penalty.

You gotta be kidding.TO choked the game away. He has hands of stone. They were lucky to win. TO didn't get anything, literally.

I felt the exact same way. What the he## were the announcers doing on the 2 pt. conversion? Obvious PI, not only did he not turn around to make a play on the ball but he ran into TO before the ball got there?

I thought it was a pretty bad call too. In fact a Bill did something similar later and no call.
2) TO caught the ball on the sidelines and had one foot in bounds and was pushed by the defender. This was more of a judgment call than the spike but still seemed fairly obvious to me.
I figured it was going to be called a force out, but I didn't think it was a force out. It was a good non-call, on a play that frequently gets called wrong.

Actually, the DB played that perfectly. He doesn't need to look back as long as he doesn't touch the WR before the WR touched the ball. It was played perfectly.TO had a bad night... maybe he was miffed due to the first call, but whatever the reason was, he didn't play well. The refs didn't have it "out" for him. He just didn't play well.

I only agree with #1 on that list. M.Lynch did the same thing after a nice run and nothing was called.

The other two were judgement calls, I could see them going either way.

He didn't look good early. He had alligator arms on an early overthrow by Romo and was doing almost no blocking. MB3 had an early run bounce outside to a basically untouched CB.

I agree with #2 he was pushed out and it should have been ruled a catch.

On #1 the call was sketchy but TO needs to remember he's abit of a target for refs (even if its subconscious)

#3 on your list I thought was a great play by the DB.

This from a Cowboy fan...........an excited one at that!!!!

#3 was a great play by the defender, but it was pass interference. If you do not look back for the ball, you can't put your hands all over the WR before the ball gets there.

Sigh... no that's not true. Not only is that not true, but the DB didn't touch Owens until after the ball was there.

You cant do that whether you are looking back or not.I don't see you crying at how that last catch wasn't overturned.

#3 You cant face guard a reciever. Also, he did hit him before the ball got there.

I hate the FADE!!! That is the dumbest play ever when the game is on the line!!!

Happy (now) Cowboys Homer

He wasn't face guarding, and no he didnt make contact before the ball got there.

How many uneducated (football rules wise) people are there?

Faceguarding is NOT illegal!!! We went through this last year too!!!

I found this play to downright obvious that it was pass interference. Dude straight mugged him 2 seconds before the ball got there and on top of it, he was totally facing T.O's body the whole time. The ball was not played. And had the FG been missed, it would be a travesty of justice for the Cowboys.

The contact before the ball arrives is very clear. Both of the DBs arms are in TOs chest before the TO touches the ball. I don't understand the debate. They showed it three or four times. Contact well before the ball arrived.

No such thing as face guarding. NFL took it out of the rulebook years ago. As long as you dont touch the receiver before the ball gets there, there should not be PI. Unfortunately, some NFL officials still like to call PI on DB's just for not looking back.

3) The jump ball in the endzone to tie the game (assuming a 2 pt conversion) was broken up by a guy that never turned around to see the ball coming. Obvious pass interference call yet no call.
 Some of you need to read a rulebook. There is no rule that says all DB's must be perfectly facing a QB to break up a pass. Its all about contact. No such thing as face guarding and you cannot call a penalty on a DB for not turning around.

How many uneducated (football rules wise) people are there?Faceguarding is NOT illegal!!! We went through this last year too!!!
No, smart guy. But pass interference is.
Right, but no pass interference took place, and half the people in her are arguing that it did "because the guy didn't look back". Greer never touched Owens until Owens touches the ball. Look at the replay without CowBoy glasses on. No one on the Boys argued that it was PI, none of the commentators even mentioned it. TO stunk up the field tonight. It happens.

I watched that final play to TO several times in slo-mo and the defender CLEARLY hits TO well before the ball gets there. He has BOTH arms on each of TO's arms and is making contact with his lower body. In fact, I had it paused at one point where you see the contact and the ball isn't even on the screen. That was one of the more obvious PI calls, IMO.

I agree with #1, #2, and #3 and I HATE the Cowboys.

#3 You cant face guard a reciever. Also, he did hit him before the ball got there.

I couldn't agree more... The success of that play inside the 5 has to be less than 30%

I like the no call for the 2 point conversion........let them play. I'm a big proponent of being consistent, so if they were letting them play all night, then that was the right call. If they were ticky tacky one way, then you have to be the other way....I was fine with it.

I agree with you on the out of bounds catch. I know some feel he didn't make an attempt to get that 2nd foot down.....but I'm confident that if there wasn't a defender there, he would have gotten it down. He may not have did it as he was in the air, anticipating the push out but yet trying to get it down but he did have time. He was pushed after making the catch and then didn't get the foot in bounds.

Again, I think it was not an easy call and could have gone either way. However, if it were me making the call, I'd probably have given one of the top receivers in the game the benefit of the doubt on it. You got a rookie making that play....you call him out of bounds. You have a pro bowl wide receiver on the sidelines getting pushed out with 1 foot in bounds already....you give it to him. That's just me.

Terrell stunk tonight. 3 or 4 chances to make a clutch play, not spectacular play, but clutch play. 0 for 3/4.

I thought the force out play in question was a force out, but that's a judgement call so I can see it going the way it did.

Don't know about the 2 pointer but the opportunity was there to make the clutch catch and he didn't make it.

I hate the fade too. I mean, I was upset he didn't make the catch. I was mad at the play call, but we're all great coaches after the fact. They did try and get the ball to their best offensive player when the game was on the line, so I understand that. I Tivo'd that play over and over and what I kept seeing is on that same left side, as you watched Owens go deep into that corner, TE Fasano was running a hard button hook. He ran hard, went two yards into the endzone and kind of pushed off but just made a real nice hard turn and the Buffalo defender lost his balanced for a second and Fasano would have made the catch easily 1 yard inside the endzone.

I like that play too, it's VERY hard to stop with a physical tight end and no offense to Buffalo, man on man in the passing game they have some weaknesses, that play would have worked.

However, if it didn't......I'm sure I'd be on here typing why did Dallas throw the ball to the backup TE when you have Owens, Crayton, Witten etc.....with the game on the line.

I didn't like a few calls-

I too thought that was interference but regardless thought he should have had it. He begs for that type play, he's got huge arms, hold onto that darn ball.

I didn't like the check the replay after a play had already been done, re that late late catch. Upon review they reviewed it right but it's a bit weird to go two plays back.

Like Aaron said that clock took a long time to go 2 seconds on the onside kick, I think a ref had a slow trigger finger then.

I thought that horsecollar play was odd. It seemed to me that the RB(A train?) sorta smacked Roy not a facemask, then Roy horsecollared, then a spearing head tackle came in. I didn't see the defense facemask. That seemed all mixed up.

Actually, the DB played that perfectly. He doesn't need to look back as long as he doesn't touch the WR before the WR touched the ball. It was played perfectly.
he did touch him beforehttp://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?season=2007&...p;game_id=29270

4:13 in replay, highlight reel

TOs sorta in midair balls about to hit his hands and greer is standing into him, much of his body touching TOs

ETA like I said above, I still think he should have had it though

I do recall correctly. Look at Bri's post, and pause that highlight at 4:07. The ball is a good two feet from TO's hands, and Greer is draped ALL OVER him, arms, torso, everything. I can see why you don't give the Cowboys the call in that situation, but that was clearly PI.

Even though i have TO...i already won my game but yea, he got screwed tonight

the "spike", the non flag on the 2pt...they were #### non calls

(1) I personally think this is a GREAT play, especially when you've got someone with height and a vertical that puts them 6-9 inches on the DB ( T.O., Randy Moss, Plax, etc. ).(2) More in response to the rest of this thread... I don't know if it should have been interference. It looked a little suspect to me, but I'd rather have the ref no-call it when there was interference than call it if there wasn't. The thing that people should be concerned about is the fact that the ball hit him IN THE HANDS and he didn't come down with it. He just plain missed the catch. From the position of the DB, I didn't see any way Owens didn't land that if he caught the ball rather than letting it pass through to his arms.

TO should've caught it with his hands but it was clearly interference. He couldn't make the catch because there was a DB's arms in his chest pulling TO's arms apart. A near great play by the DB but it should've been flagged. I would prefer if they just plain called it right. I can't see how you can favor a bad call over an equally bad non-call. They're both the same game changing type of penalty.I would REALLY prefer that they make PI reviewable. Especially on a 50 yards pass or so. What I didn't get was that no one on the Cowboys looked like they were pleading for a flag, especially TO. And for the record, I agree with the refs on the force out. The spike was weak, but that's the rules. He flipped it away from the refs, and the refs chasing the ball is the reason for the penalty, thus delay of game. Rule has got to go.

You are 100% wrong on this one buddy-boyI love it when the Cowfags lose because I dont like them, but that was a blown call all the way. Did the NFL change the rules on pass coverage or something? because I have seen that exact play called for PI before because the DB didnt turn around to look for the ball. Even if thats not illegal he still was early with his hands on TO.

I figured it was going to be called a force out, but I didn't think it was a force out. It was a good non-call, on a play that frequently gets called wrong.
Why do you say that. He would of had 2 feet in bounds if the defender didn't push him out

Owens penalty on the spike was weak, alot of guys toss it after a play and get away with it, but if the refs want to say delay of game, it's understandable, but he threw it 5 yards down field, where as Lynch threw a ball plum out of bounds after his long run, that is some obvious bias against TO.

I agree with #2 he was pushed out and it should have been ruled a catch.

Go to NFL home page. Click play on "an instant classic" press pause at 4:07. DB has both arms on TO but the ball is not there yet.

I agree it looked weak on the replay until you see the ball ended about 20-30 yards downfield. If I was a ref and had to go chase it down I would have flagged the idiot.

First I want to say that I had TO going tonight and I had the game in hand no matter what he did. I am a TO owner but I am not biased here as I won my game with TO before the game started. But there were three calls that caught my attention:

3) The jump ball in the endzone to tie the game (assuming a 2 pt conversion) was broken up by a guy that never turned around to see the ball coming. Obvious pass interference call yet no call. While I think the call was bogus, Crayton getting the TD on the next play won me a game in my other main league. So, like I said, I'm not biased here for TO, but the officiating where TO was concerned was horrendous.

A travesty, you've gotta be kidding me. Dallas played an awful game against a beat up team. If their is play anything close to that next week they have no chance.Dallas shot themselves in the foot all night and were playing against a defense that spent most of the nighton the field because they and the special teams scored so quickly. TO came up small for Dallas last night as did Romo. TO sholuld buy Folk a new car.

TO choked the game away. He has hands of stone.
:goodposting: If TO made the plays he should have made, nothing the refs did to him would have mattered. No wonder he spiked the ball, him catching it in the first place was a monumental achievement.

Anybody hear Merrill Hodge on NFL Live putting TO in the meat grinder? What a freakin jerk...picking on TO while sitting in a $500 office chair. No wonder they keep this guy buried in their building and only let him come out to play once a month.

Yes TO dropped key passes. No excuse. Can't help you there buddy. But cmon what a freakin tool Merrill Hodge is.

Claiming Terrell Owens is NOT a premier WR in the league after leading the league in TDs last season. Not to mention his 18 yards per catch this season. Among other statistics. After a couple bad weeks statwise...possible decoy arguement, where does this fool come off.

Keep this loser off the program. I lose respect week after week with some analyst/experts all the time. ie sean stupidsbery. Get off your high horse.

:goodposting: Sure looked like contact to me..... I don't like either team and don't own TO - Just callin' it like I see it.

1. That wasn't a spike, it was barely a toss.

2. He was shoved out of bounds without an opportunity to get his feet down and caught the ball. That's a catch and should have been awarded. Otherwise take it out of the rulebook.

3. The guy raped him before the ball was there. PI.
