Anything stick out to you? Key is each team can only lose two. Seems like the best players, in no particular order, are Bailey, Pedroia, Baker, Zimmerman, Gorz, Sonnanstine, Parra, Votto, Pie, and Escobar. Care to rank a top 20ish?

Bailey, Pedroia, Baker, Zimmerman, Gorz, Sonnanstine, Parra, Votto, Pie, and Escobar.
addIan StewartHenry OwensLesterDotelCabreraGorzelannyA lot of this is going to have to do with how you want to buid your team. You obviously are looking for a future ace or two given your list, but I like Votto the best on that whole list and I like Stewart sooner than later to play 3B. Since there are so many starting pitchers available I'd grab the two best position prospects in your mind first, then take pitchers later. Of the young pitchers these four are the best of those you listed:BaileyGorzelannySonnanstineLester (like his K rate)Baker is meh, Escobar would be a solid guy to have out of the gate, and Parra is interesting. Cabrera might have the best potential of the group but he needs some Leo Mazzone magic.

Thanks DrD. It's easy to overlook some people (even though I had Gorz listed :hot: ) when you got a list like this. My first thought was to go Pedroia or Votto or Zimmerman with my first two picks....but now I've got to check out Stewart. I don't have much intel on him. I do like Votto alot too. I also think Parra is interesting...hoping the other owner picks names like Escobar and Cabrera and I can scoop up this young talent.I'll keep this up to date once it gets going, I'm sure a few others will jump in too.

On second pass, you probably just want to avoid SP's altogether. With stud CL's and MR's, you can do great in 5 categories by punting two. Given your SP options, that's a great result for you.

:bag:
I thought about this a little bit too. I could get some solid MR's right now, maybe take a stab or two at guys who I think might close (the Marlins guys, etc). But I'd have to make some trades and work the wire (my waiver position next year can never fall below 4th out of 12) to aquire closers next year. But, I still think targeting guys like Morales, Bailey, Sonn, Gorz, etc can be beneficial. I am going to stay away from the Millwood's of the draft.

I think the format will be as follows:

1. 10-round expansion draft taking players from the initial post. Each team can only lose two players.

2. Continue drafting to fill in rosters to around 29 players using the FA lists here, but also I can email the commish about any minor leaguers that I think might be available. I'm just going to send him a mass list from some of my other leagues to see what's out there. I will definitely have spots on my roster for minor leaguers.

I hope you're not paying money for this.
Sorry I missed this....no it's not for money, just for fun and a challenge.Anyways, the first pick is in (see 1st post), the other guy took Bannister. I'm gonna make my picks at lunch, debating Stewart, Votto, Pedroia and Zimmerman (although I think he just injured something). If you'd like to add a player to the short term list or comment on those four, feel free.

Real quick thoughts:

Catcher: I'm a big homer for Suzuki, and since you're not going to compete any time soon, I imagine, he might be a good late-round pickup. Varitek is obviously the primo option, but his time is limited obviously.

1B: Votto's a nice start, I really like Loney as a sneaky pick here.

2B: Ian Stewart looks like he's gonna take over 2B. Consequently, avoid Kazuo Matsui outside of Coors.

3B: Encarnacion/Fields are decent picks, but you've already got Zimmerman.

SS: Escobar the only obvious choice here, with the lack of SS, you might want to target him a little early.

OF: I like the guys you have bolded, a lot of work needed here obviously.

Pitching: I still like the all-reliever strategy. That said, Duchscherer is the shark play here, since he's going to be starting next year, supposedly.

Some good intel/thoughts here. I'm not too worried about catcher. If he wants Varitek early, so be it. I'll take an upside guy, like Suzuki, later.Interesting point on Stewart. These rosters are huge (29 players total), that I'm still going to take best available for the most part, so I won't avoid 2B early here if it presents itself. But Stewart going to 2B definitely is interesting, and he'd have dual eligibility next year. I'm leaning Loney with the first pick 1.1 (the draft start was delayed a few days). Then I'm hoping he doesn't take Escobar and I'll scoop him up next. This other guy mis-picked Conor Jackson and Kelly Johnson during the expansion draft, so I think he likes those two guys, and maybe he'll take them early. I like Johnson too though, but Kemp and Escobar more.Didn't know about Duchscherer starting, I thought he'd be a great holds guy.Thank you. Stop back in, would like a little more activity in here. I'll even name this team FBG. :bag:

Finally going again with this...

Took Kemp and Yunel with my 2nd and 3rd selections.

If Kelly Johnson and Polanco are both there at my next picks, who would you take? Also thinking about Swisher with one of those picks.

EDIT: Took Swisher and Johnson.

Final roster. Still have two more picks left in a league FA draft. Once the season starts, I'll be able to put Owens on the DL and possibly drop Parra/Sonnanstine for some middle relief and young players.

2B - Kelly Johnson, Placido Polanco

SS - Yunel Escobar (2B/3B)

3B - Ryan Zimmerman, Ian Stewart (2B?), Josh Fields (OF)
