Just wondering if there has been a decision as to when/where the SD game will be played this Sunday?

Thanks

Looks like they will be playing in SD. I don't have a link right now, but those have been the reports.

Don't have a link but I read earlier today on a msn that the mayor of San Diego said Qualcomm could be ready on Sunday for The Chargers and that the NFL was going to make the call. There were still concerns about air quality and other issues. The mayor expected a decision anytime from the league.

A week of uncertainty has come to a close, as the Chargers have learned they will play their home game Sunday – actually at home.

They will play the Houston Texans at 1:05 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium, according to a press release from the city.

The wildfires that tortured San Diegans this week forced the Chargers to flee Tuesday to Arizona, where they will hold their third-and-final practice at the Cardinals' complex in Tempe this afternoon.

On Thursday, Mayor Jerry Sanders cleared Qualcomm Stadium as site of the game. While all indications were the game would be there, the Chargers still did not confirm that on Thursday night.

The mayor said the team remained concerned about air quality and police and fire support. A mayoral spokesman said Thursday the city “would be ready” with that support by Sunday.

Also, all remaining evacuees at Qualcomm Stadium were to be transferred to other shelters.

While some in San Diego expressed concerns about playing a game so soon after a tragedy, many have clamored for the game to be at Qualcomm because it would be a positive diversion.

I think thats very important for us,” quarterback Philip Rivers said. “We want to look at it like that. Anytime you can entertain people, its always going to take their minds off of whats going on. Even for three or four hours, if you can entertain them, theyre going to take their mind off of whatever is going on in their world. Thats what we want to do.

“People in the county are going through a tough time ... To play a game, hopefully back there, hopefully that can lift people's spirits. Because this is gong to be something the county is going to have to deal with for a long time.”

Asked Thursday about a game at Qualcomm helping people feel better, Sanders said, “I think the city ought to feel real good about the way it's responded to this crisis already. And I think a lot of people in the city and county of San Diego have done an incredible job working together to house and feed and do a lot of things. I certainly think a football game would be nice, but I don't know that that's the only thing people are focused on at this point.”

Sorry didn't see this thread

Just heard on ESPN Radio: the game will be played in San Diego at 1:00 pm PST, as previously scheduled

Was just going to post this but I see you already beat me to it. Anyway, there is an article on NFL.com.

BREAKING NEWS from NFL.COM

The Texans-Chargers game that was threatened to be moved due to the Southern California wildfires will go on as scheduled -- 4:05 p.m. ET/ 1:05 p.m. PT Sunday at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.

SD season ticket holder here. Got my email saying it is a go from the Q.

Not that it matters but the official game time is 1:05 pm pacific. That extra 5 minutes means an extra beer while tailgating. :goodposting:

I ended up canceling my annual trip out there for the game this weekend thinking that with the poor conditions there was a small chance the game would be played there. You can get a refund if you show up at the stadium, but for us non-locals the Chargers are offering to donate tickets to the fire and police of San Diego for the game.

So to whatever member of the SD fire/police get my seats in Plaza 5 Row 1 seats 8-9 thanks for all your hard work, and I hope you enjoy the game.

It's only week 8 and it's already been a crazy rollercoaster ride season for the Chargers. I have no idea what their mental attitude will be for this one. It could go a bunch of different directions.

Is this one off the board? I'd assume it is, but I haven't checked.

What I'm wondering about is air quality. I'd hate to be running around in an NFL game with that much smoke in the air.

It's on the board. It opened at 11 early in the week, then went off the board. It's now at 8.5 to 9, depending on which book.

Turner said Thursday's practice was the best they've ever had, if that helps with the mental attitude thing.

I posted in another thread about Ahman Green's bad asthma ...

Part of me is wondering if keeping it in San Diego was a bad idea since the air quality is terrible and people are being warned not to exercise outside. If the air quality is still bad come sunday could the game be posponed?

At the very least I think it has the potential to be a very low energy game with lots of oxygen on the sidelines.
