With a scratch to Ahman Green and the ineffectiveness of Ron Dayne, Adimchinobe Echemandu seemed to do well with his touches (73 total yards on 12 touches). Is AE going to see more time or is this a one week aberration? Do homers have an insight on this guy? I figured since my team stinks and was able to cut dead weight, I will take a gamble and see what he has. Any thoughts?

I've been thinking of a flyer as well. Just sent a 2-1 or 3-2 trade offer, if either one is accepted, I've got an open spot waiting for an unknown Joe.

See my input on Joe E , Here throughout this post.

Needless to say I've been on him since the pre-season and I think he can make a case for starting RB, my only concern would be his value after this year unless he absolutely blows it up.

 
This guy seems intriguing, but he was also viewed as a potential sleeper in Cleveland and then in Oakland, and now in Houston.

Maybe he's found his niche, and it's probably worth a flier, but I wouldn't put my expectations too high.

 
He's already been cut twice in his career. I can't think of many journeyman RBs who have gone on to much success. For the most part, guys who get cut outright by their original team have a very low long-term success rate.

Cut by Cleveland and Oakland, not your top of the list best run franchises, but your point is still valid.Oakland cut him to activate Dominic Rhodes from suspension, with Jordan, Fargus and the PUP'd 4th round pick in Michael Bush. I could easily see why that happened, too much invested at RB already. Not sure what happened in Cleveland last year. They've got Wright, Harrison, then signed Jamal.All I keep thinking is this team is now run by the long-time pupil of unknown 1,000 yard RBs scavenger, fantasy lineup killer, Mike Shanahan. Buyer beware!! You might strike gold, or you might strike out. But if you're like me and have a free roster spot, taking our a RB5 flyer, I won't lose anything of value, so why the he!! not?

Does anyone think the revenge factor comes into play at all this week? Houston is playing at Oakland in week 9, and Oakland is the team that cut Echemandu earlier this season.

Being a native Houstonian and watching this horrible offense, I would say stand clear. This will be a RBBC for the rest of the year.
 
The Raiders believe that DE Tommy Kelly's knee injury is serious.

Kelly, who's arguably been Oakland's best defensive lineman this year, was on crutches in the locker room after Sunday's game. His status will be updated later in the week. Rookie Jay Richardson is his backup at right end.

Just was listening to the local sports radio show and they had Coach Kubiak on. He said he knew Friday Green was a no go. Green told him after practice friday he couldn't go. Coach said they really thought the had turned the corner on the weekly process w/ green cause he was able to play against tenn. and the knee didn't act up. Knee started to swell alittle Wednesday. Green practiced a litlle on Friday but felt he wasn't going to be able to contribute enough. Coach sounds very Optimistic about Green contributing as the season goes on. Personally i think he sits this week and should be ready after the wk 10 bye. On Echemandu, Loves the spark he gave the team. He also said he was getting MRI on hamstring as we speak. Thinks it's probably not bad 'cause he was able to return to action even after the injury. Coach said it was easy for him to pick up the plays cause the terminology from raiders running game was similiar. Coach was flat out asked would he start this week if Green was a no go again. Coach said Well, I wouldn't say that right now but He's definitely earned more playing time. That's all I got. Hope it helps.

"Joe" only played one year of college ball (Cal), and had over 1,300 total yards and 13 TDs in 13 games. The four-year veteran has bounced around. But, we never know if he is now developed more because he only played one year of college. College programs are where running backs develop the most. There is little replacing those years with good one-on-one coaching from positional coaches. I say we should give him a few weeks to see what he has. Ahman Green is not the future back of the team. Who knows if Joe could carve out a role.

:) I do! Barring injury he can be the guy the rest of THIS season. Its a what have you done for me lately league and hes done well all of this season going back to the pre-season.I seriously doubt you'd be able to pick him up if you waited another week, especially with him returning to the place he just got booted from.

It's not true that Echemandu only played one year of college ball. He was recruited as a tailback but was moved to wide receiver as a freshman due to complete lack of wide receivers on the team. He then blew out his ACL his sophomore year and sat out junior year. So he only had one full year as a tailback starter, but he was with the team and the coaches for his entire time at Cal.He was a track star and is quite strong. He doesn't have a whole lot of moves but he's hard to bring down and he has good instincts in short-yardage situations. If the coaches have their eyes open, he will supplant Dayne as the #2 RB, but it's unlikely he'll supplant a healthy Green as #1.

Yeah don't even waste a bench spot on him. I mean I am sure he is not going to be good at all.

No sense in picking him up just in case.....

Actually, the game was out hand in the first quarter, so any answer is misleading. He ran well in the first half, and actually did not carry much later in the game because a hammy tweak.

So the question here is will he be able to play and be effective given his injury or are those seeking a one week filler better served to look elsewhere.

"Anytime you get an opportunity to make some plays you have to take advantage of them," Echemandu said. "That's how guys stay around in this league. I felt it grab as soon as I got up on the first play, but I kept on going until it got more painful." Coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday that Echemandu would have gotten a bigger workload had he not been injured in Week 8, so expect him to play a big role if healthy against the Raiders. :thumbup:

You must be my twin brother as I have Gore in two leagues and just picked up Echimandu in both and am starting him. I liked his quote about "That's how guys stay around in this league." I think he appreciates the urgency with which he needs to produce. I also think that he'll be extra motivated against the last team to recently cut him (also ranked 30th in run defense unlike the 7th-ranked Chargers who he got 6.2 yards per carry against). Flashback to 2003. USC won the mythical AP National Title (not the real BCS Title) with only one loss. To whom? The University of California. In that game Echimandu ran 34 times for 147 yards against one of the best run defenses in the country. The dude is a bowling-ball type similar to Gore. I think he just needs the opportunity. This could be it (for one game anyway).

Both he and Grant were two of the top WW pickups this week. I just wonder who the better play is? Joe E has a great matchup, so I am eager to see what the injury report is late in the week. I think he could be a very good start this week if he is close to 100.

The fact that he says that Oakland is just another game for him tells me that it's not just another game. This could be his first NFL start, and it happens to come against the team that just cut him after he was arguably their best RB in the preseason. Not to mention that the game is in Oakland, just a few miles down the road from Berkeley, so this is like a double homecoming for him.Green could be back on the field this weekend, and if not, Dayne could possibly be in the starting lineup again. However, if Echemandu gets the start for Houston, he also gets the start for my fantasy team.

With Watson looking likely to be backing up Rudi this weekend, I'm right there with ya. Let the Echemandu era begin!Yikes.
 
When I saw after the game that he had 6.2YPC I was pretty surprised. It seemed like he was getting stopped after 2 and 3 quite a bit. He looked a lot better than Dayne though.

I think he'll be a nice plug if Green misses more time but I can't see him getting more that 10-12 carries with Green in.

Itchy-Voodoo practiced fully from what I hear. Also the contusion was on the 1st run and he manned up and played through it including a 20 yard run that looked damn good. He's in a position to make a name for himself and he knows it.

He had runs of 7, 20, 6, 3, 2, 3, 0, 4, 11 and 6.He had as many runs of six or more yards as he did of four yards or less. You must have caught that string of short ones and it stuck in your head.
 
So do people here feel that if Green is hurt and unable to go, that Dayne may be the starter in name only and Joe E will be the main guy? Kind of like a MIN Taylor/Peterson situation earlier in the season? (Obviously with less talent). Or do you think Dayne sees the majority of the carries another game? Or do you think Joe E gets the bulk starting this week? (Again, assuming Green can't go).

Adimchinobe Echemandu (hamstring) went through another limited workout for the Texans on Thursday.

Echemandu's status for Week 9 isn't certain, but most of the Texans' injured players were limited in Thursday work. We'll find out more on Friday.

Adimchinobe Echemandu (hamstring) practiced again on Friday.

Echemandu "looks fine, has looked fine" in practice, according to Texans coach Gary Kubiak. At best, it appears Echemandu will be part of a RBBC with Ahman Green (knee) expected to be active. He's a high-risk fantasy play.

Boy, if Green continues to struggle with injury, and AJ returns after the bye, Echemandu could be a good play. I think he has some decent potential. This weekend's game will be interesting, especially if Green is limited and Echemandu is relatively healthy.

 
News: Echemandu (hamstring) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Spin: There's a solid chance that the Texans will dress three running backs (including Ahman Green, who was inactive last week) Sunday, so it's pretty tough to predict what Echemandu's workload will be like this week.

How hurt is green?
 
I think at this point even with Ahman healthy, Kubiack sees the potential in Joe and will give him as shot like he has all the Rbs who he has aquired.

Ahman may linger onto Joes carries but its Joe's job to lose based off his performance Sunday IMO.

 
wow, his job to lose after one game (which was a blowout). Ahman Green was brought in to be the starter and has always been the starter there (granted he's been injured for a majority of the season). Unless Kubiak doesn't believe in the "can't lose starting job due to injury" rule, then I'd say it's still Green's job to lose.
