Any news on when and if they will activate him. If they don't by next weekend is he IR'd?

Any chance he plays this year?

I think by Wk. 11. Another post on this board had people speculating Bush will get a serious look before the end of the year, as Fargas is a UFA and the Raiders really need to see what they have in Bush before they invest in Fargas for next year.

If Bush is healthy at all, I feel like he could be a real fantasy force down the stretch.

just grabbed him..worth a shot, really.

Remember, had Michael Bush not broken his ankle in Sept. '06, he likely would have rivaled Peterson for top back taken in the draft.

KFFL was reporting Bush may be activated as early as next week (which would be a week early). If he's activated next week as speculated, he may have some value cause that means he's ready to contribute or they wouldn't be burning that roster exemption if they don't have to.

I wonder if Rhodes or Lamont will be released or if they trim the fat elsewhere?

The rumor floating on the boards is that Jordan will be cut. I wonder how true this is.

That's some revisionist history there. He was expected to be in the race for the Heisman but nobody thought he'd be a top ten draft pick. He could have been drafted near the end of the first round or early second, though.

After reading this and seeing that Rhodes ,Jordan and Fargas may not be back next year one would have to assume that Bush will get a long look before the end of this season so they know what they have in him....just guessing mind you , but makes sense.

ALAMEDA — On the surface, Oakland Raiders running back LaMont Jordan's fall from grace seems random, if not mind-boggling.

After all, he ranked second in the league through four games with 424 rushing yards and was the main reason the Raiders possessed the league's top-ranked rushing attack.

However, there's much more at work in Jordan being displaced by Justin Fargas than the all- important matter of production. It's that time of the year during a disappointing season when first-year coach Lane Kiffin has turned his attention toward the future.

To that end, Kiffin wants to take an extensive look at Fargas so that he can make an informed decision about whom to bring back next season.

At this point, the only running back certain to return next season isn't even on Oakland's active roster and hasn't even played a game yet. That would be rookie Michael Bush, who practiced for the first time only last week because of a lengthy rehabilitation process for the broken right leg he sustained more than a year ago.

Hence the reason, it's incumbent upon Kiffin to find out what each of his running backs is capable of doing in games before he crafts his roster for next season.

Jordan's time seems to have passed. A back injury against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 30 opened the door for Fargas. He made the most of that opportunity by rushing for 172 yards on 18 carries after Jordan's departure.

These days, Jordan is struggling to get a few carries a game and coming to grips with his demotion. Being injury-prone isn't helping matters.

"We really felt that Justin had done well in his opportunities," Kiffin said, "and we felt that he'd run great and he was making the right reads, he was doing a tremendous job in the opportunities he had. We wanted to get him more opportunities, and he responded (Sunday). He played extremely well. He showed why he should be the starter."

Jordan said he received word of Fargas' heightened role the day of Oakland's game against the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 28. Each player received 12 carries that game.

"I didn't like that," Jordan said.

His mood worsened upon seeing Fargas receive 23 carries against the Houston Texans last Sunday, while he rushed only four times.

That prompted some self reflection, Jordan said. He found he isn't running as hard as he needs to, isn't making proper reads on blocks, and is lacking in pass protection.

"It was just something that was tough to deal with," Jordan said. "I took Monday and Tuesday to sit back and relax, just looked at myself. I understand the move. I'm more so not upset with Kiffin or the coaching staff, I'm more upset for allowing it to even get to this."

Kiffin is big on a player's body language, seeing how they react to adversity. He said how a player handles himself affects his playing time.

Even so, Kiffin said, he isn't closing the door on Jordan this season.

"I don't expect him to be real happy," Kiffin said.

"He's a competitor and he wants to play. I would hope that he wouldn't accept it as far as, 'Well, I'm the backup, OK.' That's not the attitude. We want him to keep fighting. Prove us wrong so when you do get your carries and do get your opportunities, prove us that we're wrong. We'd love for that to happen."

Next year is a different story. It's conceivable that Jordan, Fargas and Rhodes won't be around next season.

The Raiders balked at giving Jordan a $4.7 million roster bonus during the offseason. There's no reason to think that they will honor his $4.7 million base salary next season. He's no doubt gone unless he restructures his contract.

Rhodes earned $2.5 million this season. There's no conceivable way the Raiders will bring back Rhodes at the $5 million in base salary and roster bonus due him next season. He has carried the ball in only one of the four games he has played this season and doesn't appear to be in the Raiders' plans.

As for Fargas, he is an unrestricted free agent after this season. The better he plays, the more money it will cost to sign him to a long-term contract.

"We're still trying to figure out this team," Kiffin said. "It's our first year together, we've played (eight) games together and we're still learning about players. That's what you do your first year."

If Bush does play this year, I can't see it being in the next game or two, or three. He has only practiced once this whole season. Also, I don't see all three RB's between Jordan, Rhodes, and Fargas all being gone next season. Teams need more than one good RB on their team.

:D Bush has been practicing with the team the last two weeks.Expect the unexpected.

The Raiders could be in position to take either McFadden, Long or Dorsey and all 3 would be a need, but RB seems to have been so de-valued in the NFL the last couple years. Add to that, the tremendously deep class of RBs we may see in the draft (I'm sure at least a couple will stay another year because of this), a good back can be had in the 2nd or 3rd. I think if the Raiders don't get a FA RB this year, their starter is drafted in round 2 or 3.

—RB Michael Bush continues to practice with the team after being on the PUP list and simulates the opposition's top runner. He was Cedric Benson in practice this week.

must have been difficult to simulate running into your own O-line and falling down upon contact.

Didn't McGahee take a full year to come back from his nasty accident? I hope to see him (Bush) play this season. I took him at number six overall in my dynasty league and with Ronnie Brown out for me, I'd like to see Bush play. I was really disappointed when I saw him go to the Raiders, but i figured he looked awesome in college and there was no one else on my draft board anyways at RB that I thought might be better. I am watching this one closely. I think the Raiders want to give a better looksy than just in practice and the same for Russell. Rhodes is junk, Fargas is junk and Jordan should've waited to start in New York? I think they had better O-Line coaching at the time.... The coaches always play head games with the players anyways to get them to "compete" better. I guess it works on a cruel "cattle-like" level of psychology. Sounds to me like they are dangling a start in front of Bush to get him ready for the real thing and keep him geared up and deperate for action and greatness. Wouldn't want to hiom to take forever to develop like Cedric Benson who by the way, as crappy as he is turning out to be, has hurt a couple defenders as well as himself a couple times. maybe the O-line is over-rated in Chicago. Hopefully the Raiders O-Line is under-rated this season. i think the Raiders could do good by another couple )-linemen in the next draft. Can never have too few good men in the trenches.... I hope my Dolphins feel the same way too.

Brilliant!!!

His beginning to practice is not recorded as a transaction and I don't recall the date of announcement. If he has been practicing for two weeks, that could be as little as 12 days ago. That means he would have to go active or IR around the 20th (21 day window.)

Now if anyone has more complete information that would answer the question of this thread BEFORE sharing their off-topic yet highly valued opinions...

According to InsideBayArea.com, Raiders RB Michael Bush was in pads and practicing with the team for the first time on Wednesday 10/31. He has been taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list but has an exemption before going on the 53-man roster.

As a Raiders fan, I would really like to Bush and Russell get some playing time before the end of the season. Obviously, they are going nowhere again and need to look to the future. I want to see what these 2 can do.

It should be today but I have a bad feeling that they don't. It seems odd that they have waited so long.

any updates?
from rotoworld (11/13):The Raiders face a Wednesday deadline to decide whether to activate RB Michael Bush (leg) from the PUP list. Bush has been working with the Raiders scout team in practice and could see some work behind Justin Fargas if activated. He is not likely worth a roster spot except in dynasty leagues.

so we should find out later today...

I'm not sure how Rotoworld is doing their math, but Oakland still has one week (from today) left to activate Bush. Today's not the day.

Is Rotoworld the only one saying this? Also, with Jordan in street clothes on Sunday if they activate Bush is there a chance they release Jordan? Seems logical, anyone agree?

my mistake, Rotoworld got their info from the SF Chronicle's David White.Oakland still has a week left to activate Bush.

Yahoo did the same thing, saying Wednesday was the deadline. I think they meant next Wednesday, as that would be the 20th. KFFL is also reporting that Kiffin said no decision has been made on whether or not to activate Bush for this week yet.... So there's still a chance he plays this week.

I believe bush will be srong down the stretch. with jordan and rhodes sitting....................the table is set for them to take a look.

I'm giddy with anticipation - a possible RB worth spot starters from out of no where. Less than two days until lift off.

As a dynasty Bush owner, I want him to be activated but I can't understand why the delay until the last moment. Is it because they are trying to figure out who to deactivate/cut? Or, are they trying to decide on his health? That seems unlikely as he has already had over a year to recover from a broken bone and reports are that he is fine in practice. Is it because they are trying to decide whether to cut Rhodes or Jordan?

Pure speculation on my part, but I'm expecting they're deciding whether to cut Jordan or Walter, especially given the RB situation in KC.

I was thinking the same thing, if Holmes is out, does it make sense to let the Chiefs get Jordan? but, truth is, there are other teams that could claim Jordan, so if they truly plan to release him it shouldn't matter.

the more logical explanation is that they arent activating him. they dont have to annouce any decisions if they go this route, but simply announce nothing, which is what is happenning.

that makes zero sense to me (not that it's not right). this team needs to take a look at the future. And wasting money on Jordan each week makes no sense, i think they are trying to wait as long as they can. I know Bush has practiced for two weeks or so now, any word even how he looked out there?

Well they have to announce something. Either he's activated or put on IR. They can't just do nothing.

i could see them putting bush on the IR and not cutting Jordan just to keep Jordan off the Cheifs roster
mmmmmm maybe. I am watching this closely because I have Jordan and haven't dropped him because of the chance he could now land on the Chiefs roster. The Raiders don't care if Jordan is on the Chiefs roster next year and they only play one more time this Sunday......which....I am sure he wouldn't get any quality playing time, but he could provide the Chiefs some insider information.....and the Chiefs somehow still have a legitimate shot at the AFC West Title.
