Thinking ahead at the RB position (1 Viewer)

According to our league rules, a player has to be on the roster from this coming week on in order to be considered for keeper status next summer. I've been sitting on Turner all year because the prime rival in my keep 8 league had his eye on him last year at our roster cut down. I also have Brandon Jackson in the slim hopes that he ends up back in the spotlight in GB and I also have Fargas, hoping that he amounts to something in that starting role.

With that in mind, what guys would you look for (a backup to a potential free agent or rapidly aging star like Morris or a guy that should take hold of the job through another manner).

Give me your best gamble or two for 2008.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Cleveland go after Turner

 
It wouldn't surprise me to see Seattle draft Stewart from Oregon if they can. He would be a great fit there, IMO.

 
Turner is probably already rostered but is the most likely to start somewhere next season.

Chris Henry may have been dumped in your league with his pending suspension but could see a significant amount of carries alongside White next year.

I also second Michael Bush. Assuming that Jordan is cut (likely) and that the Raiders don't draft a RB (little less likely), he'll be competing with Rhodes and Fargas next year. I like his odds to earn a solid portion of the carries. Remember, IF he's 100 percent, he's probably high second round talent.

Andre Hall is an intriguing choice since it appears it'll be him vs. Selvin Young to start at RB for the Broncos.

Kenny Irons isn't a bad pickup, either, but it's more of a stretch than Turner, Henry, Bush, or Hall.

I also think it's time to forget about perennial "Wait till next year" players like Chris Perry and Musa Smith.

He seems like a good pick but it's unlikely he'll be available for them unless they collapse big time in the second half of the season. I think he's a top 15 draft pick at this point...
 
My league is a dynasty. I'll be hanging onto two guys with the hopes they will get a possible opportunity somewhere next year... Earnest Graham and Kenton Keith.

 
I picked up Irons for this purpose.

I'm in a 16 team league, so most of the guys mentioned are already rostered.

I also picked up QB Stanton, and thought about QB Kolb and WR Jarrett.

I'd like to hear other thoughts.

EXCELLENT CONTRIBUTION. The OP didn't say he was looking specifically for WW fodder. He was looking ahead at RBs worth "grabbing/stashing" in hopes for next year. That could include trades as well as waiver wire moves.

Not to mention not every keeper league is 100% dynasty. Some of only get to keep one or two guys...and Turner IS available in our league. (Turner's had a lesser role in the offense this year, and other than a handcuff for LT, isn't worth a roster spot, keeper status notwithstanding.)However, phthalatemagic's post DOES want me to go grab a Guiness! :no:

 
JJ Arrington

Edge is starting to show his age,

plus JJA has looked good when called upon.

He can be had on the cheap in most leagues.

I've expected more from Jerome Harrison, the guy seems to rarely see the field. Anyone have any insight into his current situation with the club?

I can only guess he isn't learning the book or is a poor blocker, limiting the offense when he is in the game. I had higher expectations for him and will hang onto him in the leagues I have him. Maybe something will improve next year. It would be nice to hear from a Cleveland fan about Harrison...

Are we forgetting about Travis Henry or has anyone heard that he may get cut or traded? I saw Hall and Young play this year, and loved the way Hall came out in that one game (Tenn)??? and busted a couple of big runs, but just heard the past couple of days that Young really has impressed Shanahan. Anybody else have news on whether any of these three will be the starter next year? Also of note, I did hear that Shanny has really liked the moves of the 2nd string janitor, so watch out...

i came in here to post this, very excited on grabbing him week 16, when i got a few "who's that guy"'s from the league...looking forward to his potential
 
Kenny Irons. This kid has such a personality that coaches will have to give him a shot. He's a Chad Johnson in a RB body.

I didn't know Stewart was getting that kind of love nationally. Seattle certainly needs an upgrade at RB. SA is done and Morris is a capable backup/3rd down guy but I don't see him as the workhorse that Holmgren seems to like.

Stewart was previously the #1 High School RB prospect in the country. I think he'd be known well enough by a scouting department Especially the Seahawks department... Stewart grew up in Lacey, WA.
 
TJ Duckett to the Steelers as a free agent. If, I mean when, that happens, look for 800 yards and 8-10 touchdowns.

wasn't that supposed to happen like 4 times already?What's wrong with Davenpoert as Parker's sidekick anyways?He's got power and way more wheels then Duckett.

Deuce turns thirty in 08 and is under going his second ACL surgery. What makes you so sure he'll be worth anything? I expect more from Pierre Thomas than Deuce and Thomas showed alot of potential when he got a chance down the stretch. Bush is not playing like a featured RB.
 
Deeper league - I wasn't that impressed with Keith so I'm grabbing Dawson on the off chance that the Colts agree with me and I get Addai's backup.

 
This year's crop of RBs coming out of the draft will make a lot of current NFL RBs expendable. A lot of marginal RBs will be out of the league very soon.

 
Derrick Ward - Is a FA this coming season and showed enough to warrant carries on some team.

A.Bradshaw - Should enough to have the giants focus on a 2 back system, Droughnes should see his exit and Ward should be resigned elsewhere.

N.Davenport - Ran well in Parker absense, remember Parker is a nobody to a superstar, very easy to wash out of the league. Previous versions of this type of player can be said with Lamar Smith, Kareem Abdul Jabaar, Mike Anderson, etc.

Jerious Norwood - He may have fallen off the radar, but should be highly considered. He has jukes/cuts AT TIMES that look Barry Sanderish

Darius Walker - Very longshot, but everything seems choatic for the running game situation in Houston.

Leon Washington - Very big longshot, but in standard performance leagues he outperformed T.Jones from his ST points. He is too small too even be a feature back, but at the season end they were using him a tad more in the game scheme.

I expect Duckett to sign with the Lions again. He's from Michigan, he was very effective this year when given the opportunity (5.2 YPC), the Lions have made a commitment to balance the offense and Kevin Jones just tore his ACL.I'd look for Duckett to come back and be a big part of a committee in Detroit, whether it's with Jones or they have to bring in another guy.
 
Sammy Morris. Was productive for the Patriots but may have been dropped/become "forgotten" due to his early season injury. Should play a pivotal RBBC role with Maroney next year.

Those are awful comparisons. None of those guys had anything close to Parker's speed. Smith and Abdul-Jabbar never rushed for 1200 yards in a season, something Parker has done three straight years.Parker's the real deal.
