NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Dolphins RB Ricky Williams after a suspension of 18 months for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Williams filed for reinstatement Oct. 1.

Someone in my league who has Fargas just picked him up and dumped Lamont Jordan for him, I guess news travels fast.

I picked him up in a couple of leagues, but didn't drop anyone significant.

Aaron Stecker and Chiefs D/ST.

Doesn't hurt, I guess.

Is Williams 'pickup-worthy?'

How soon could a guy in his position be back on the field?
I think he'd be hard pressed to see the field at all this year.

ETA

But if you have a scrote rotting on your bench, I think it is worth the effort to pick him up in redrafts as well.

:lmao:Do you really think he's in football shape?Do you really think the Dolphins are going to welcome him back?Do you really believe half of the crap you post on this board?
:kicksrock: I don't see Williams as a gym rat kinda guy.
I think you might be underestimating how badly he wants to play again. I heard him on an interview earlier this fall, he was working out and at 225 lbs (the lower end of his playing weight). I think he'll be ready to play, I don't think Cameron will be very eager to put him in.

Uhhh, it appears you have never done yoga before. Yoga alone gets you into shape by kickin' your butt...if he has been doing anything ontop of that....Watch out!

This has a kernel of truth, actually. Anyone who thinks Yoga is easy is out of their mind.

I agree about yoga but doing yoga and getting hit by a 250 lb linebacker that runs a 4.6 40 maybe slightly different.

anybody here operate there leagues in yahoo? I was just on and he isn't on the player list yet so if someone notices when he gets added post it here for the rest of us...

True, but it's to make the point that Ricky is not just coming off the street as a couch potato. Considering how tough yoga is and that Ricky is an yoga nut...he's in good shape.

I don't see much value in him this year, but I picked him up in October in my keeper league. Next year he will play somewhere and despite his faults he is a pro-bowl caliber running back.

Thanks, didn't know that.

Several posts in here speculating that the Dolphins will cut Ricky... I'm just wondering if anything has been said by Phins management that would hint at this?

I think Williams' only real chance at playing time this year would come if he was cut and signed elsewhere.

So, who understands the reinstatement rules? Does he automatically count against the 53 man roster, or is there an exemption like the PUP guys? Obviously the Dolphins have nothing to play for but pride, and I don't think Ricky fits into that category for this team. They get nothing in return if they cut him now except a very low veteran salary. And what is Ricky's contract status? Is he signed through next year? If so, an offseason trade makes the most sense and he may see significant playing time this season as he is showcased for a draft-day trade.

When Cam Cameron came on board he was quoted as saying the he will never let Ricky "let down" the Dolphin fans & team agian - meaning he doens't want Ricky anywhere near the Dophins anymore. Not sure what they'll do with him. Will they try to get something for him? Showcase him for next year in this lost season? With the trading deadline passed - does he now have to clear waivers first before he's traded?

Per PFT:
Now that he's eligible to play again, it's unknown whether Williams will play for the Dolphins. Mortensen reports that the team is expected to get a two-week roster exemption for Williams, meaning they have until late this month to decide whether to activate him or release him.

Speculation is that Miami will get a few weeks' roster exemption to figure it all out.

I am confused by everyone jumping to the conclusion (that's a good board game, by the way) that Williams will be cut by Miami.... I don't see the point in Miami cutting him..I disagree that his only shot at seeing the field is with a team other than Miami tho...I could see RW sharing the load with Chattman as early as 2 weeks...Then, Miami will probably attempt to trade him (and his cheap contract) to somebody for a 4th round pick in the offseason (if he plays well, which I expect him to -- OTOH if he plays poorly, I'd expect him to be cut in the offseason)...

Ricky would just mess up that whole "fail forward fast" thing that Cam has going for him in Miami :goodposting:

He used to be a pro-bowl caliber running back. Ricky is 30 years old now, and a liability. Some team will probably take him for cheap, but he isn't the Ricky that was the #1 pick. Whoever he plays for, they won't be getting a player that has a lot of heart for football, that team will be getting a player that wants and needs the money.

Yeah, Cam doesn't want anyone stealing is thunder on letting down the fans and the team. At this point, I think Cam needs to swallow his pride and see what Ricky can do. If the guy can help the team get a win, he needs to be on the roster.

Does anyone know how long the Dolphins have to either activate or trade him?
Coach Cam Cameron is expected to talk to team leaders within the next two days to discuss their reaction to the possibility of Williams' return.Once Williams' reinstatement is made official, the Dolphins will have two weeks to decide whether to bring him back. The fact that Cameron will ask his team indicates that Miami is at least open to the idea of bringing him back.Source: foxsports.com

Will people please stop with the trade talk

Trade deadline was more than a month ago. He will not be traded anywhere until next year

Anyone care to speculate on how his positive test for THC in April will be handled? Was there ever clear judgment on that?

We don't want a win, we want the #1 pick. The dolphins announced they were starting Beck at QB, they aren't interested in winning this year.

Even doing power yoga for 3 hours a day isn't going to get you anywhere near game shape. It's incredibly good for you but nowhere near the type of conditioning required to get into even practice shape, much less game shape.

Right, because they were doing so well and getting so many wins with Lemon at QB.Nobody, least of all Cam, wants to go winless this year. They are certainly out of the playoff race, but these guys have a lot of pride and going winless for the entire season would seriously sting for a long time.

You are definitely a homer. I would be beyond shocked if someone would give up a 4th round pick to a guy who has been out of football almost 2 years, has already quit on a team, has just come off of an 18 month suspension and is over 30.Personally, it seems like Chatman is doing fine and if I were the Dolphins, I would dump him to get rid of the distraction. They don't need him when Brown comes back healthy and to be honest, RB is not a position of need for them now, especially at 0-9. If they could get a 7th rounder for him now, they should. If not, then lose the baggage. It seems to me that RW hasn't helped the Dolphins more than he has hurt them since he retired the first time.
