I had put Mr. Gumbel's soft #### commentary behind me in the offseason. Listening to him just now brought back memories of suck-ness.

He sounds like my mom. Is there anything we can do about it? Watch USC-Arizona State and follow the NFL game online -------------------- How many programs in America would place "blame" on the coach who led his team to more wins this decade than ANY in the history of the sport? Why should K take blame for winning the ACC and 30 games this year? Do you know how absurd you sound right now? This Duke team had no starting seniors, and featured a freshman and several sophomores. This "regression" you speak of, 99% of all other programs would happily take it. Hey, no argument here. You guys have a nice little program going on over there. Sort of the Gonzaga of the east. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get ready to be SHUTDOWN Santonio!! |

Gumbel is horrible - his monotone voice is just pathetic.
Only play by play announcer worse than Gumbel is Pam Ward. |

Arrogant, smug, horrible soft voice. Way too aristocratic to be calling football. Always think I'm listening to Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

His brother is fine, but this doooochee is.... I could say several things that could get me a vacation from this MB.... he is as biased an individual as there is in ALL of media, yet has always gotten a free pass to spew his selected PC venom. I would like to see him and Kornholer in a death match. The winner gets killed mercifully. Ah, but to dream, and think of my Christmas wish list..... and other things I will never get...

Man, he's terrible.
He was just talking about why Dungy isn't called a "genius"... good point... and then he goes on to say "people say there's a genius in New England... in Baltimore..." Baltimore? He then follows it up by saying "Billick often has the genius label applied to him." Really? Brian Billick? Maybe, maybe some said so when he ran the Minnesota offense... but has anyone called him a genius recently? Even when they won the Super Bowl, Marvin Lewis got a lot of credit for the defense. I just don't really hear people saying, "You know, that Brian Billick is a genius"... weird. -------------------- Joe says*:

Almost every Ravens game, particularly their last MN (or SN) game they talk about how he was supposedly an offensive genius. I've been hearing about it all the time, especially the irony that D has always carried his team. -------------------- "Once there were brook trouts in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery." McCarthy The Road

guys like Gumbel and Kornheiser ... guys who were handpicked by their networks to be broadcasters despite their obvious deficiencies is basically the league and the networks putting the "entertainment" value of the game over the actual game itself. What was wrong w/ the old school way of broadcasting a game .... a solid play-by-play man and a former player? It was good enough for us fans, but the "powers that be" thought they needed to jazz up the broadcast. So thanks to some bean counting "suits" who are only concerned w/ $$, we have to endure soft play-by-play calling, celebrity interviews during the game and female sideline reporters. If you thought the NBA was a three ring circus, I introduce to you the new millenium NFL.

He kept getting Addai and Keith confused, not to mention marking out to Dallas Clark when it was Utecht who made the play. This guy sucks and I can't believe NFLN hasn't gotten rid of him yet. |

When they came back from commercial, showing a Christmas tree. Gumbel's mic was on and he said "Your drinking on the job again?" Was he joking? Seriously? In the daily e-mail "Random Shots", J must have heard it too. He wrote: The NFL Network kicked off their game broadcasts this week. As expected, they had some kinks to work out. As they came back from commercial break, Bryant Gumbel didn't realize his mic was live and you could clearly hear him joke with someone on the set saying, "You drinking on the job again?" -------------------- Shared knowledge is a FF players greatest asset...

kermit the frog on helium. kermit the gumbel. HATE HIM! I was going to say that he's like Burt (from Burt and Ernie). QUOTE Almost every Ravens game, particularly their last MN (or SN) game they talk about how he was supposedly an offensive genius I don't think that word means what they think it means. Anyway Gumbel kepted saying the Packers when he meant the Cowboys last night, did it two or three times and it annoyed me. Minor detail but come on. Collinsworth is good but you can just FEEL his contempt for Gumbel. Gumbel is a tourist. You need people that eat live and breath nothing but football. What exactly about being on the Today show makes you uniquely qualified to commentate a high profile NFL game? -------------------- QB: No

Who's this Rick Romo that Bryant wants to interview??? Or how about him saying the M. McCarthy (GB Coach) (SP?) thinks M. Barber is the heart and soul of the Packers offense?? WHAT??? Then he tried to justify it later by saying it again while trying to change the emphasis that surely wasn't clear the 1st time he said it.... HORRIBLE.... Reminds me of the corny Madden Video game canned phrases...... |

if you don't like him change the station and watch CSI or hit the MUTE, don't really care which but lets not start this same thread next week. get over it. Absolutely. If you don't like a horrible announcer, you should turn the game off an watch something else, missing the game enitrely. Good call. |

He was really really terrible last night. Half of the calls this morning to NFL channel on Sirius Satellite have started their call with really lambasting Gumble for the job he did last night.
