Redskins safety Sean Taylor dies (1 Viewer)

I'm hearing he lost a lot of blood.
 That's a big one...comparable to the jugular.

That puppy is a gusher located in your thigh area. It's always hard to repair because once it is severed it has a knack to retract up into the leg and it is very hard to get sealed up.

If you don't get immediate hospital attention you could easily bleed to death within minutes!

See: Black Hawk DownI cannot watch that scene.

Thoughts and Prayers for Sean Taylor and his family.

Is he a guy who never did anything wrong or never had a scrape with the law? Heck no, but he is far from deserving this fate. Save this fate for those that do much worse.

Wow. That truly sucks. Obviously the primary concern is his life at this point. After that, you'd have to imagine that this season is definitely done for him and possibly his career. Very unfortunate.

Not that it really makes it any "better" or "worse", but I hope that this was a random home invasion/robbery rather than retribution from the earlier altercation.

Is he married? Was it a domestic issue?
No. He was at his house in Miami with his GF and their daughter. The reports are that he was shot by a robber.
Robber hired by the gf? Something smells here.
I'd guess this happens like it does to other professional athletes who get robbed. They go out to clubs and run in circles directly associated with criminals. Those kinds of people follow you, stake the place out, and then try to take your stuff. The problem is when they try to take your stuff when you are at home to go around the alarms. Just my guess.

Why ?, I believe its true and I think I'm allowed to have my own opinion ? I don't wish him dead, but don't expect me to feel sorry for him either. You live by the sword you die by the sword, if you think thats cold and heartless try and join the Army for awhile
Point is your opinion is rather strong and one sided considering no-one knows more than %1 of what actually happened last night. What did he do to deserve the live by the sword die by the sword quote? You sound a little assumptive.
ok how about this.. Either his past caught up with him or he is the unluckiest man alive. I'm not saying I hope he will die, far from it. Hopefully he will be back delivering crushing hits, but if he doesnt.. Well, #### happens
You gotta understand, being rich is dangerous in itself, let alone the possibility it could stem from the old incident where he got angry with the folks trying to steal his ATV's. If these thugs in Miami know who you are and where you live, whether or not you home, what do they have to lose if they try and rob you? There plenty of rich people who are robbed who have no connection with crime."The most dangerous men in the world are those who have nothing to lose"

I'm hearing his house isn't in the best area of Dade County.
Dade county is the cocaine import capital of the US, dominated by Cuban and Columbian drug lords/cartels/armies. There isn't really a good area in Dade. My buddy grew up there in a "good" neighborhood, they still found his neighbor's body with the hands cut off at his high school football field.

Taylor is dead?
No. Shot in groin according to Miami HeraldSean Taylor of the Washington Redskins was shot and wounded early Monday by an intruder in his home on Old Cutler road in South Miami Dade.

Taylor, a former University of Miami star, was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Details were sketchy about the shooting.

According to police, Miami-Dade patrol officers received a call about 1:45 a.m. Monday that a homeowner had been shot in the leg. The homeowners told police they heard intruders at the rear door of the house, trying to pry it open.

The male homeowner went to investigate and a female in the house then heard a shot. Paramedics responded and found the victim, with a gunshot wound to the groin.

The shooting happened at 18050 Old Cutler Rd. County property records list it as the address for Taylor. It is a four-bath, four-bedroom house with a taxable value of $704,297.

His family has asked that no information about his condition be released at this point, said Lorraine Nelson, a hospital spokeswoman.

Taylor, 24, is in his fourth season with the Redskins. A safety, he leads the team with five interceptions but has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

In 2004 he was the fifth pick overall by the Redskins, after stellar career at the University of Miami.

You live by the sword you die by the sword? He plays football and was shot by a robber with his family in the house. You sir are a moron!
Arrested for armed assaultEvents:On June 3, 2005, Taylor was named publicly as a "person of interest" by Miami-Dade County police in regard to a Miami assault case involving firearms, and was being sought for questioning. "We need to speak to him, we don't know if he's a victim, witness or suspect," Miami-Dade police spokesman Mary Walters said. Taylor allegedly was present at, and possibly involved in, an incident on June 1, 2005 in Miami, in which bullets allegedly were fired into a stolen vehicle. [citation needed] On June 5, 2005, ESPN and The Miami Herald both reported that Taylor, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to Miami-Dade police at approximately 10pm ET on June 4 at Miami's Cutler Ridge district police station, where he was transported to Miami's Turner Guilford Knight correctional facility. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, and misdemeanor battery.[citation needed] On June 5, Miami-Dade police issued a statement indicating that Taylor had been arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm (a felony) and battery (a misdemeanor), for allegedly pointing a gun at a person over a dispute over two ATVs that Taylor claimed were stolen.[citation needed] Taylor then allegedly left the scene, but returned shortly and punched one person.[citation needed] The Associated Press reported on June 5 that Taylor was held in detention at Miami's Turner Gilford Knight correctional facility and released the evening of June 4 after posting bond of $16,500. The Miami-Dade County Clerk's Office announced that Taylor would soon be officially arraigned on the charges.[citation needed] The Washington Post reported on March 3, 2006 that Taylor's trial has been postponed until April 10, 2006. Days before that date, the trial was moved back once more, this time by a week, because of conflicts with Passover and Easter celebrations.[citation needed] CNN reported on November 26, 2007 that Taylor was shot in the leg at his home in Miami, Florida. [edit] Plea agreement and resolutionOn January 28, 2006, the Miami-Dade County prosecutor announced that he was filing new charges against Taylor, which would have increased his potential maximum jail time from 16 years to 46 years.[citation needed]The new charges include increasing his felony assault charges from one to three, which reflects the allegation that, on June 1, 2005, he brandished a firearm at three individuals who Taylor believed stole two all-terrain vehicles from him.[citation needed]The trial was again postponed on April 17, 2006 (to May 8, 2006), after the prosecutor in the case asked the presiding judge to be removed from the case. The County prosecutor's request for removal from the case came as Taylor's defense lawyers argued that the prosecutor was using the case to promote his side-work as a disc jockey in South Beach. Defense lawyers for Taylor have entered a motion for the case's complete dismissal, due to prosecutorial misconduct.[citation needed]On May 8, 2006, the prosecution requested and received yet another extension of the case, citing the new prosecutor assigned to the case and a need for additional preparation time. It was scheduled to begin July 10, 2006 in Miami. On June 2, 2006, however, the charges against Taylor were dropped as part of a negotiated plea bargain. Taylor will donate his time to various charities and make $1,000 donations to 10 southern Florida schools in scholarships and, in exchange, will avoid jail time and a felony record.[citation needed]
Maybe he learned his lesson down?My faith in people is at an all time low right now.
Not to mention, that timeline of events makes it seem like almost a dozen incidents involving Taylor. In reality, it's a bunch of updates on one incident. Not saying he's a model citizen because he had the spitting incident too -- but to jump to conclusions that he somehow "deserved" this because of an incident that happened over two years ago is foolish. And to suggest that two negative events in two years shows some sort of behavioral pattern is pretty ridiculous. There may have been other things in his past that are documented, but let's remember that he's only 24 still. People can and do learn from their mistakes and to my knowledge he wasn't in trouble with the law in the past two years.

I wish Taylor well.

IMO, however, I think that a lot of professional athletes (football, basketball, etc.) would lead a life of crime if they weren't professional athletes. The reasoning for this could be several factors such as an upbringing devoted to sports instead of education and a career or maybe simply being with the wrong crowd.

I hope that this was an isolated and random incident and that it had nothing to do with Taylor's possible off the field activities.

I'm hearing his house isn't in the best area of Dade County.
For what it's worth in Dade Co., you can go from million dollar houses to poor neighborhoods with in streets.

He is widely described as being in critical condition. Perhaps we should be bearing this in mind when posting?

2.

First, this is terrible and I hope it turns out well.

Secondly, it's amazing to me with the money these guys have why they don't have round-the-clock armed security personnel at their homes. Former cops who now work privately. It would be a drop in the bucket, both financially and for the peace of mind it brings.

Best wishes.

Edit for spelling.

Absolutely not. The seriously comment is in regards to the lack of reading comprehension exhibited by the likes of War Eagle, southeast and sleeper that can't figure out how to decipher a timeline.

Originally I posted the wiki entry because War Eagle makes it sound like ST only plays football and lashes out with the name calling of moron when the fact that ST's past is relevant info at this time, IMO.

Might it be determined that this past had nothing to do with what has happened? Of course and it is likely that's what will happen, but to completely dismiss it right now is foolish. I mean do you think the Dade County police aren't taking his past into account right now? If they are, why shouldn't we?

Taylors father in particular is a police officer and Taylor wasn't brought up in "the hood" per say BUT again when your rich you ARE a sizable target if thugs know where you live.

Anything new come out of the Skins 11 AM presser?
Not sure if they've had that PC yet. I doubt they'll add much. Taylor's family has requested that no more info be released. The incident occurred around 2 AM. If he's still in surgery, that can't be good. One report says a friend of the family, who refused to be named, said Taylor was shot twice.

There sure are a lot of people openly rooting for a chance to say "I told you he was a thug". How about we stick to news?

if there's any connection, I'm sure we'll find out about it at some point. right now though, there doesn't seem to be any so I'm not sure how relevant this earlier incident is here.

Sean is in critical condition in Florida after being shot in the leg. The injuries are very serious, and according to one team official "It's not good. We're waiting on more details from the hospital." There is some concern an artery may have been struck, though I have not been able to get the firmly confirmed.

Players and coaches are very worried right now and essentially everyone can do nothing but pray for the best at this point. The media is being quarantined to the media room for now - as you would expect in these situations - and there will be no open locker room. Players may be speaking to us later in the day.

One of Taylor's agents, Jason Rosenhaus, said he had no comment on the incident. The Redskins are going to have a team meeting around noon to update the players on the situation.

According to the team, Taylor was home in South Florida when armed robbers attempted to enter. He was not with the team for the game this weekend - which is not unusual for injured players - as Sean was trying to recover from a knee sprain. The Redskins had hoped that Taylor, who was having a Pro Bowl season, would have returned to the lineup in the next few weeks.

Local10.com updated 11:01 am

Miami-Dade police confirmed there was a shooting at about 1:30 a.m. at Taylor's home in Palmetto Bay and said Taylor was the person who had been shot. Police received a 911 call from a woman inside the home, Local 10 learned.

Taylor was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital around 2 a.m., according to police.

A family friend, who did not want to be identified, told Local 10's Rad Berky that Taylor was shot twice. Police said Taylor was in critical condition.

Crime scene investigators were seen leaving with bags of evidence collected inside the home, Berky said.

Thanks for the update. 24 year old with tons of talent shot because he is successful. What a damn shame.

Seriously?
are you arguing that he deserved this b/c of what he did in the past?

LD - My point was very simple before my post was mysteriously deleted for unknown reasons after a staffer echoes my opinions in a later post?.Anyway, You had 5-6 paragraphs that amounted to one thing: ONE previous incident , big deal.

You positioned your post as if this guy is a habitual offender, get real !

If your point was to say there may be a connection with his previous incident with the people who stole his ATVs , it only takes one sentence.

if there's any connection, I'm sure we'll find out about it at some point. right now though, there doesn't seem to be any so I'm not sure how relevant this earlier incident is here.
Fully agree. These young men live in a world very alien to my own. This is true for most others here. The facts will develope over time. Just as we have people speculating here, so to will the press speculate and then pursue those angles, as, no doubt, will law enforcement. If there is a story it will come out. In the meantime speculation seems somewhat contemptuous given the dire circumstances a young man finds himself in at the moment.

I didn't do anything. Problem with it? Yell at Wikipedia, not me.

Is he married? Was it a domestic issue?
No. He was at his house in Miami with his GF and their daughter. The reports are that he was shot by a robber.
Robber hired by the gf? Something smells here.
A guy on another message board lives near him... said he was suprised to see all the cop cars when he drove by this morning because it's "a nice part of town and we don't usually get this type of crime here"

There still does not appear to be any official word on Taylor's condition but the reports of him being in critical condition appear to be well sourced:

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/11/26/...ical-condition/

Alvero Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, told ESPN this morning that Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor is in critical condition after he was shot late Sunday night.

Zabaleta had no information about the circumstances of the shooting or whether there are any suspects, other than to say that Taylor is the only person who was shot. Zabaleta asked that anyone with information contact Miami-Dade police.

The 24-year-old Taylor is in his fourth season in the NFL. He was the fifth overall pick in the draft after an All-American career at the University of Miami.

He's right. FWIW, Old Cutler Road/Perrine is one of the nicer neighborhoods in Miami-Dade.... very quiet, expen$ive homes, large lots, close to the water (no beaches unfortunately). ST's house appears to be near the old Burger King corporate campus.

Out of surgery

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has undergone surgery for a life-threatening gunshot wound suffered early Monday morning at his South Miami home, FOXSports.com has learned.

A source said Taylor was shot on the inside of his leg during a home invasion involving "one or maybe more: individuals. The bullet pierced Taylor's femoral artery, causing him to get rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

"He's in critical condition and has somewhat stabilized after surgery, but things could go either way at this point," the source said. "He's lost an incredible amount of blood. At this point, we're just waiting to see how he responds to the surgery."

Taylor's family has asked that no information about his condition be released at this point, said Lorraine Nelson, a hospital spokeswoman.

The Miami Herald reported that patrol officers received a call about 1:45 a.m. that a homeowner had been shot in the leg. The homeowners told police they heard intruders at the rear door of the house, trying to pry it open.

The male homeowner went to investigate and a female in the house then heard a shot. Paramedics responded and found the victim, with a gunshot wound to the

There seems to be alot of sports stars being robbed in thier homes lately. I have heard it several times over the last six months or so. I don't think they are all related but if we can find the address of these rich athletes so easily on the internet it's easy to see why they are becoming targeted more often.

The incident occurred around 2 AM. If he's still in surgery, that can't be good.
Just heard a doctor on the radio say the fact that a long time has passed is probably a good thing. Probably means he'll live.
All speculation of course, but this is probably true. Trauma surgeons talk of the "critical hour" after significant injury occurs. If you can get an otherwise healthy patient with a fixable injury to care within 60 minutes the rate of survival goes up significantly. In this case, an elite athlete with what appears to be an isolated injury could be resuscitated quickly with blood and control of the bleeding. With regard to Taylor's future, redman and others are right that this is a significant injury. Whether he can be cleared to play in the future depends on how the artery was repaired (with or without graft, type of graft, etc) and how long he could need anti-coagulating (blood thinning) medications -- which depends on how his injury is repaired.Hope for the best.
