**Discuss Field Conditions in Pittsburgh Here** (1 Viewer)

Anybody in Pittsburgh seen the new turf they laid down? Is it bad enough that footing will be a problem? I am thinking of going with the under on the game if footing is going to be bad.

Did the Pitt-Baltimore game a few weeks ago end up OVER or UNDER? That was played under the same kind of conditions that we'll see tonight.

This is new sod though. Just laid down yesterday.
They just laid new sod down a day before a game?!?That doesn't make sense. I'm not a horticulturalist or anything, but doesn't it take some time before fresh sod can be played on? Especially in these conditions.

There were 5 high school playoff games played friday night at heinz field and Pitt played there on saturday night. after half an NFL season and an enitre college season on that field, the replacement was necessary.

I can understand that, but it just seems like bad timing. Wouldn't this pose a higher probablity for injuries to both Pitt and Mia tonight? I was thinking that this may be a runner's game tonight, but perhaps not. IIRC, Cleveland played Pitt at home in similar conditions this year. I remember seeing some of the sod being torn up during that game.

These conditions usually help the WRs who know when they are going to cut, the DBs will be falling all over the place.

The new sod is supposed to be so heavy that it won't need weighted down and the seams will not be an issue. I dunno but it has been raining like crazy all day here in Pitt and supposed to continue through most of the night. I find it hard to believe the footing is going to be very good.

Which makes me thinks that Parker will not be very effective again tonight. He tends to lose his footing on good turf trying to make quick cuts.Najeh is more of a mudder, so it would not suprise me to see him play quite a bit tonight.

I don`t claim to be Jerry Baker.

But late November in Steel town I would venture to say there is a good chance it could be a bit damp. That being said why would MNF be played on the field the same weekend after they had 5 HS games on Friday. The U-Pitt game on Saturday. Even in decent conditions the natural grass field would be torn up after 6 games in two days.

Horrible fields make for great defensive #s. The Steelers are tops in the league? Wow, what a shocking development.

There was sod flying all over the place that last series. It looks like all the players are running in slo-motion.

Miami could "steel" one tonight.

It's a good thing they didn't play football before they invented high-tech drainage systems and field turf.

Every game should be played in a dome :wall:

Not saying that at all. Had the field not hosted 6 games in two days prior to this game in rainy weather it would have been fine. I have seen many games in Pitt in bad weather that the players could still perform. They can`t perform tonight.

This horrible excuse for a football game is nothing-nothing approaching the 4th quarter on that 19th century football field. And last I checked, Pittsburgh won 4 Superbowls playing their home games on Astroturf. Bring that crap back, already.

Don't they play at home again next week? I think they host the Bengals. That field is going to need some serious work, in fact maybe re-sod again, just to get it playable for next weekend.

:lmao:

This is an absolute joke. It is the 21st century folks. OK, I understand not wanting every game in a dome, I understand football in the elements is tradition, but give me a freaking break. Ever heard of a drainage system? Taking care of the lawn? Covers, tarps, dryers anyone. Sorry, no the best thing we can think of is kitty litter. This is a complete waist of a Monday night, I think I will go watch some soccer where they score once in a while.

I think field turf has to be the answer.

If they are going to have that many games a natural grass field will not hold up. It can`t. My backyard is torn up after a bash I throw every year. And we don`t have spikes on.

0-0 tie, great for ESPN's ratings.

First game in 25 years that is 0-0 this late in the game. You are watching history!!

I don't understand why the Steelers have always had terrible field conditions. The Browns have an excellent playing surface and they are just a 30 minute plane ride away. Its pretty much the same climate.

Looks like the new turf made things worse. What a bad decision.

This makes soccer pitch look like ideal football turf.

They should have kept the original surface.

Someone owes someone an apology.. and monetary damages to boot.

A total embarrassment..

they said there were 7 games played in the last 11 days on that field. It ridiculous for an NFL game to be played on such a torn up surface.
They also said that the sod was added after all those games were already played.
Some turf and kitty litter? As a paying NFL fan (paying in more ways than I can count). I did not get my moneys worth from this Monday Night Prime Time game....and it was because of the absolute horrid condition of that field. Period. :lmao:

Thanks for the input guys. I took Miami +16 and the under (40). I feel like I owe the guys that related what a mess the field would be part of my winnings.

That is what is great about this site. The abundance of football information is great.

Evidently.

The Rooneys should be completely embarrassed by that field. What a total disgrace. That was the most awful game I've ever personally witnessed. The most entertaining thing about the night was watching the guy trying to get all of the lines painted during halftime. They actually had to bring in a relief line painter. I think the first guy pulled a hammy.
