Game Thread W14 - New Orleans at Atlanta (1 Viewer)

No Vick, no Bush, no playoffs, no sellout (?), no ratings. Not what the league had in mind when they scheduled it. Although for some reason this snoozer is the first MN game to get pinned before the game started. Weird.

Oh, and unless NO has painted their dome's end zones to be more welcoming to the Falcons, I'd say this game was at Atlanta.

This game is the reason why the NFL should fully embrace fantasy football. Who would watch this, even with Atlanta in the playoff hunt, if people weren't cheering for/against White, Norwood, Colston, Stecker Crumpler or Brees?

petrino: " I need to get Norwood more touches"

So what does he do on the first play of the second drive? Snelling rush for 2 yards.

Petrion is an effing joke.

I'm officially sick and tired of Sean Payton.

It was the height of arrogance to call that reverse on the very first play of the game. And then he goes for it on 4th down from his own 30.

This guy needs firing.

Because shockingly, some people like football, and possibly like an outside playoff hunt storyline.

What would embracing it do? If you need those guys, you're already watching, NFL doesn't have to do anything. FF players don't buy tickets, jerseys or other gear. The FF player doesn't matter to the league because they don't offer any money to the league.

This idiot is actually going to go for it again, isn't he?

EDIT I guess not. I'm actually surprised he didn't.

The way I see it: Brady, Manning, Romo will go 1,2,3. And then after that Big Ben, Brees, Palmer, Favre, Anderson, maybe Garrard.

Seriously?I have numerous jerseys (going back to Napolean Kaufmann) of players that I had on a team that I never would have bought if it wasn't for fantasy football. I have gone to games to watch a player when I was in a city when I never would have gone to a game if it wasn't for FF. Then there is the whole Sunday ticket. People on here brag about their setups and that is because of fantasy football. There are three reasons to get the Ticket; Fantasy football, gambling and a fan of an out of market team. I bet fantasy drives at least 50% of the sales of the ticket. Furthermore, ratings go up as more and more people participate in fantasy. This is a total cash cow for the NFL and the NFL should try to make sure that fantasy continues to grow.

Drew Brees has come on strong in FF after starting off mediocre. When you draft next year, is he a top 5 QB?
That sounds like a jinx if I ever heard one.
No, I'm just curious what you think.
BradyRomo

Palmer

Peyton

Hasselbeck (5th is debatable)
How dare you! He's on a career record pace this year and has been more or less consistent this season so barring personnel changes (of which only Hackett is questionable) I think he's a top 5 guy.

Palmer above Payton?
Wasn't ranking them, just naming 5.Brady, Peyton and Romo Top 3. Better? The sleeper will be Leinart IMHO (a QB outside of Top 12 who can be a legit #1).

Obviously there are exceptions. But in general, FF players don't spend a lot of money compared to NFL fans. While ovbviously many are both, I don't see any reason to pander to the FF community. The sport doesn't need any extra marketing, it's already at the top. And it was there before the proliferation of FF. The Ticket may get sales due to FF, but I got mine and a 3 TV setup without a thought for FF, I just love football. I think the benefit that Ff adds to the NFL's coffers is minimal as most of us are already football nuts.I agree that there is increased interest in the NFL due to FF, but not enough to make the league actually care. No team, player, coach or league official should give two craps about FF. Their product already sells without targeting a minority. But I'm going to start a new thread about this because I am curious what kind of action people thik the league should take to embrace FF, but don't want to hijack the thread.

You're assuming there is a thread to hijack. :goodposting:You are really grossly underestimating the size, power, reach and growth of FF.FF is a $1-2 BILLION dollar industry. Check out the FSTA (Fantasy Sports Trade Association) and the membership. FF is 80-85% of fantasy sports $, and if it wasn't so big then Yahoo, CBS and AOL wouldn't be hosting so many leagues. As for the NFL - they are expanding. I have talked with Michael Fabiano who was hired to be their main fantasy guy as they are looking to expand. Their ad campaing (:Championship:) is one of the best, and they know the reach of that market.15 million people play FF (and growing). That's huge - and kids and wome are also playing, two growth markets.Bottom line - the NFL knows that this is a huge way to grow the game (and doesn't take embracing Las Vegas) so they are "getting it". The NFL is one of the best at marketing themselves, and FF helps that a great deal.

Congrats to Roddy White for officially entering my list of players I hate most in the NFL.

He wears a "Free Mick Vick" shirt like Vick's a political prisoner when the guy admitted to murdering dogs.

What a friggin' moron.

Sorry to digress.

Now back to the crappy game.

petrino: " I need to get Norwood more touches"So what does he do on the first play of the second drive? Snelling rush for 2 yards.Petrion is an effing joke.
Snelling 2 for 6Dunn 2 for -3Norwood no carries.Petrino is an f'in IDIOT.
Sportsline has Norwodd with 1 carry for 6 (1st series for Atl I believe). Is that incorrect? Anyone watching the game?
that was a reception. he hasn't carried yet.

They may have changed that to a lateral therefore one rushing attempt.

It was actually a catch out of the backfield, not a run. CBS is wrong--

Colston's another guy that interests me. Like Brees, great year last year, and this year he came on strong as of late. Going into 2008 is he a top ten WR draft pick? I think so.

Just an observation about the Laurent Robinson deep catch.....

Bad technique. The ball got all the way to his numbers / chest. Didn't catch it with his hands. That could cost him some receptions in the future if that remains his style.

The Saints really had a lot go wrong this year.If Payton can get out of his own way by trying to be too smart/cute with his playcalling (something I'm far from convinced he can do) there will be a lot of undervalued Saints next year.

yup catch. no rushes for norwood. petrino is the biggest bonehead.

Going to go out a limb and say that there will be fines from the league and the team. Each might be of the private variety but he's not getting away with that and I agree with your assessment. The guy is a complete (insert words of choice).Colston is so smooth at the position.

Actually it is correct. It was thrown about two yards backwards, so it was a lateral and goes as a carry, not a reception.

the pass wasnt great, he had to slow up and rotate his entire torso in stride for the ball.
