Bargain Players for 2008 (1 Viewer)

Lets get a discussion going on players that will be severly underrated going into 2008.

Caddy- coming off of injury

Heap- the same

Marvin Harrison- can he return to form(watch closely in the playoffs)?

Lee Evans- Can be bounce back and develop a chemistry with Edwards?

Mark Clayton- What happened to him? When will D Mason drop off?

Rudi Johnson- Can he return to form next year....will his hammy ever be the same?

Hines Ward- has Holmes become the #1?

MJD-Can he beat out Fragile Fred

VY- Now not in a madden curse year.

Travis Henry- Healthy.....no drug issues?

LJ- healthy, with hopefully a better line.

SA-can he become the old shaun

Gore-hopefully gets a better cast around him.

Leinart-will it be warner or him?

Steve Smith-better QB play has to help him

Delhomme-he has SS

McNabb-Where will he play?

That is a list of the underachievers from this past season.

One guy I like in this category is Deuce McAllister. The Saint offense looks like they miss him. Another is Sammy Morris. These two backs should be undervalued by the time August rolls around as long as they can be back to full strength.

E.Graham. People might try to deal him while he was hot, I think he wins job next year, Caddy isn't the right choice.

Hackett. Some owners might put the injury tag on him.

W.Parker. Will definitely rebound next year, more TD's for sure.

Maroney. Can't pass this much next year, can they?

Javon. His value can't be any lower with the emergence of B.Marshall. I personally won't be shocked if he lands somewhere else in the offseason.

McAllister. Don't think he is a Saint next year, due alot of money.

One guy who could be a nice value is Santonio Holmes. His numbers are pretty impressive when you consider that he's missed three games and been limited in another. He's been a solid WR2 for FF teams this season despite having fewer targets than guys like Muhsin Muhammad, Vincent Jackson, Joe Jurevicius, David Patten, Bryant Johnson, and Justin Gage.

His yards per target is probably somewhat inflated due to a handful of big plays, but if he gets something like 120-130 targets next year then he could put up some nice stats.

Saints homer here, and I'm just not seeing Deuce being all that valuable in 2008. Well, there's one way -- if he becomes a dedicated goal-line back, like late-career Marcus Allen in Kansas City. But as far as being a workhorse back racking up yardage again ... don't think Deuce's body will hold up.

Ahmad Bradshaw. While Ward was good when he played, Bradshaw is just better. Im sure he'll split time with Jacobs, but I still think he's a good player to keep an eye on.

What's the consensus on DeShawn Wynn? Grant has really done a phenomenal job and if he continues to perform like he has would win the starting job next year. But Wynn won the starting job earlier in the season. He had some good games. After the season is over, I wonder if the Packers might trade him away for a mid to late round pick. Any thoughts?

Can't find the article, but it was in the FBG news blogger. The Saints want him back. It's very clear that their offense needs him to free up Bush as a roaming target. They can get back to last year's form with Deuce and Bush. Hackett and Parker I agree with. Parker's TDs were an aberration. Leading the league in rushing through 14 weeks means he's getting the ball. Same with Hackett. One injury doesn't make you injury prone. Especially if he re-signs with the Hawks, which I fully expect.

Duece will be a bargin pick next year. I will not be that high on Deuce at all next year this is his second serious knee injury but I believe this is in his other knee. He will still be splitting time next year so you guys must think the Saints will score enough for him to be effective as perhaps a goaline back. I am staying away from Duece next year there are better risk reward picks than Duece.

I am SO not looking forward to reading tons and tons of Hackett posts again. If he plays the whole game this coming weekend and scores we'll get to read about how he scored in every game he fully played.

I like the kid. I like him a lot, but jury is still going to be out headed into next year.

Undervalued? I doubt it. Undecided would be more accurate.

those two didn't really compete as Grant got into the offense late and was still learning it. With injuries and all, I wonder if they played all that much together. That said, it's Grant's job to lose IMO

Is there any news on if Caddy's injury is going to end his career? There was speculation about this, but I don't know where he stands at this stage of his rehab and all that.

MJD will be overvalued and Fred Taylor will be undervalued. I think the fact that people still think he's fragile says a lot. He's a Muck City product and he hasn't lost that speed. He's been called the best runner in the NFL by Jim Brown. Game recognizes game. Brandon Jacobs is fragile, if you have him on your team you cringe every time he gets tackled and have keep watching the play to see if he's slow to get up or hobbles off. Fred Taylor has responded to serious injury and been pretty durable on his way to 10,000 yards when all things are considered.

I think Lynch could be somewhat of a bargain. He has had a very solid year as a rookie just in under the extreme shadow of ADP, Patriots, Brady and Moss.

The thing of it is, not only did he score in every game he played this year, but he also displayed the best set of hands of all the Seahag WR's along with putting up decent yardage to boot. It certainly doesn't hurt his case if The Walrus looks to continue emphasizing a pass heavy offense The only thing the jury is out on, in regards to Hackett, is if the ankle is going to be an ongoing health concern ala` Leftwich. That alone should drive his stock down & would definitely make him a candidate for being undervalued next year. :gang1:

They're both inexpensive, and RBs can get injured so easily, so I would bet the Pack holds on to both of them. I could see Grant getting 1st and 2nd down work and Wynn getting 3rd down work. This would make Morency expendable.

Jake Delhomme will be the QB steal of drafts next year. He's been a consistently productive, yet undervalued QB who had a sizzling start to this season before injury. He has a decent set of young WRs with one true stud, and will probably enjoy a soft SOS against the pass.

My guess is that he goes in the 10th round in the initial mocks. Don't sleep on him come draft time.

McNabb-Where will he play?
He'll stay with the Eagles. Reid loves him, and Lurie loves Reid, so McNabb isn't going anywhere. Had the team had a disastrous 3-13 type season, they might look to rebuild and go with Kolb. But since they have finished strongly, management will be in "we're just a few players away from contention" mode, and McNabb gives them the best chance to contend now. Contrary to some reports, his cap number is $6.3 million and no roster bonus is due, so money won't be an issue. Don't expect the McNabb of 2004 or early 2006, but he'll be healthy enough to perform a bit more like his old self, and thus should be undervalued by people who are only looking at 2007 numbers. He should be good as one-half of a QBBC strategy.ETA: also, his schedule will include Atlanta, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Interesting to see the OP say Rudi Johnson. They guy I am looking at is Kenny Watson. He was worth starting at swing in PPR when he was not starting this year, and the games he started he was money in the bank.

I think Jamal Lewis falls into this category. He has proven to still have some gas left in the tank, and the o-line play has been stellar. He will likely be available mid round, and is a solid rb2 with potential to produce rb1 level.

Keep in mind he'll be 33 in a couple of weeks. It wouldn't surprise me if they bring in somebody to either groom or compete with Delhomme for that job even if they don't change coaches. If they do change coaches then it's a given.

There is no way the Packers can get a mid round pick for him. I don't think they can get anything for him. They will either keep him or cut him.

I'd say he may be alright in a redraft, but avoid him in dynasty leagues. He'll be 30 in March.

I kinda have a feeling the guy to watch in that situation is Kenny Irons.

Him or Chris Perry. Yes, I know Perry has been injured a lot, but he's had plenty of time to rehab this injury. He definitely has the talent, but time will tell if he can ever stay healthy.

Yup.

I haven't heard anything on his rehab, but he tore his petellar tendon, thats the one that connects your kneecap to your shin. That particular tendon allows you to bend your knee. Apparently it is common to loose strength & mobility even after surgery/rehab. I'm sure Caddy will attempt to comeback, but its unlikely he would be ready by the start of the 2008 season. I would just say buyer beware.

I heard Shefter say that the Lions really like Brian Calhoun.
What was the deal with him being put on IR? He was getting carries way earlier in the season than I thought coming off ACL, and then suddenly he was on IR.Some guys I think may be decent bargains are: Sidney Rice and Deangelo Williams. Might be a good time to get Kenny Irons.

Are we expecting another broken arm next year? What was wrong with his cast this year? Did it get in the way of his ability to hold on to the ball?

I can't believe no one has mentioned David Gerrard, I think he'll fly way under the radar. If it wasn't for the few weeks he was hurt he'd be a top 10 QB if not higher and he definitly won't be drafted as high as he should be.

Here are a few I am watching.

Ronnie Brown?

Overvalued high because of his big games before getting hurt ?

or Fairly valued ?

or Undervalued due to the injury, qb situation, Chatman/Booker/Gado, young/bad team, etc ?

Brandon Jacobs

Labelled as injury prone?

Threat of Ward/Bradshaw/Droughns?

MBII

Threat of McFadden may cause panic

Javon Walker

Injuries

B.Marshall and Scheffler emerging?

Reggie Brown

Slow start but did much better down the stretch

Bernard Berrian

UFA?

Julius Jones

UFA?

Darrell Jackson

Did much better with Sean Hill down the stretch

Kevin Jones

Buy low (injury) and stash?

Derrick Mason (don't laugh)

He's 33. Some rumors of retirement.

Buy low and get 3-4 years out of him as a WR3.

Santana Moss. Campbell and Moss were just inches away from several big plays this year. Moss had a horrendous year, and his value is currently at its low point. The Washington oline should be much better next year, and I expect Campbell to play better at qb after having nearly a full season as a starter.

Marc Bulger....injuries and the loss of Sjax hurt him this year....should present pretty good value.

Reggie "I do nothing but score TOUCHDOWNS" Williams. Looks like he either played his way into a starters roll or makes good trade bait for teams in need.
