You know I really have no clue how to evaluate college RB's but I really like Jones. I think he does declare and he will be the 2nd or 3rd RB taken. I think Arkansas is in trouble and he has to see that and bails.
I actually think he's the 2nd best RB in this class and could very easily outshine his teammate in the pros. The guy just seems to be well suited for the NFL. He has incredible quickness, shiftyness and power. Not sure what his 40 time will be but his acceleration should be able to compete with anyone's in this class.
I'm really hoping he comes out so I can have him for years to come on my dynasty team.

I just watched him in person at the Cotton Bowl and he looked very explosive when he had a running lane. I'm no expert, so I can't really say much about his technique or any of that, but he turned a loss or short gain into 5+ yards at least 3-4 times and a couple of times he looked like he was one man away from breaking a long run. He looked very elusive in the open field, but Mizzou did a good job of not giving up the big play and even though he had a couple of longer runs, he was held in check most of the day because they took away the homerun threat.what he said!

He's listed at 6'0 and 207 pounds with a 4.40 yd. dash on espn NFL Mock Draft. I'm not sure he's a workhorse but I think he'd be perfect in Dallas once they re-sign MBIII. I agree that his acceleration is great as well as his shifty nature of running. I'm not sure about the Illinois tail back but he should go in 1st round possibly around the 20-25 pick level.

In one rebuilding league, I have 6 1st rounders and I hope one will be Jones.

How is Arkansas in trouble? They just significantly updgraded the coach. If you want to disagree with that you can but from an offensive perspective it's not a debateable to if Felix did stay he'd play in an offense were he would be the feature back in system were the defense would actually have to pay attention to the pass. That being said he's not coming back because he's pretty sure to be a first round pick.
I don't see how on earth you think he's better than Mcfadden either. I love Felix but the bottom line is he not as big or fast as Mcfadden.
I think whatever team drafts Felix would not ask him to be the feature runner, at least not at first. He'll be a great guy to mix into the lineup and he's also a terrific kick returner.

You sound like I offended you as an Arkansas fan. Relax a little and let me explain.I never said he is better than McFadden. I simply said I wouldn't be surprised to see him play better than McFadden in the pro level. It's a completely different game. And let me ask you this. If you had a son and he was being recruited by Petrino, would you believe a darn thing he told you? Petrino is a quitter and only looking for the next better option. He has no loyalty at all and parents and athletes have to see that. Sure he has a good mind for the offensive side of the football, but I can't see how he brings in new recruits. As an athlete I would NEVER believe what he said and if I was a perent I wouldn't allow my child to either.That program is on it's way down. Sorry pal.

Petrino was trying to convince Jones to stay. Problem being, he can't be trusted and everyone knows it. Jones leaves.

Would you mind sharing what you traded to get those? I could be mistaken, but I could have sworn that I heard rumors that Jones is staying, mainly to be the featured back next yr at Arkansas, and to be the "potential" #1 RB taken in the '09 draft.
Also, during the Ark/Mizzou game, one of the announcers also believes that Jones will be a better pro RB than D-Mac, simply b/c of Jones' ability to catch the ball and his all around skills for the game. It was not a knock on D-Mac at all.

I arrived with those picks with a series of trades over a 2yr period. It would take too long to give the details. A few weeks ago, I was convinced that Jones was leaving. However, after his visit with Petrino and some subsequent "insider" news, it seems like he is only slightly leaning to the NFL.
FYI - Looks like Jones will indeed head to the NFL this year.

Don't imply that I was anything but relaxed simply because your post was so off base amd I questioned it. You did imply that Jones might be better so don't backtrack on that.As for Petrino he's one of the hottest HC's in the college game. He's the same guy that team after team, both in college and the NFL, pursued multiple times over the past few years and we got him. And he's not leaving either. He consistently wanted to be in the SEC and now he is and his contract forbids him from leaving to another SEC West school for 4 years and has a buyout for a SEC East School so he's not going anywhere for a least a few years and today's HC society all you can really do is look forward a few years.This idea that Petrino is having problems recruiting because he quit Atlanta is a BS myth with no substance. The truth is he's kept the majority of his recruits, added a few recruits who committed to other schools and it was announced today that Ryan Mallett is considering Arkansas along with a few other schools. Arkansas going down? Sorry but that flies in the face of logic when both the HC and on campus facilites have just undergone and will continue to undergo major upgrades.
Jones is leaving because he's going to be a first round draft pick and not because he has a chance to work with a proven offensive coach. If you think it's because he can't trust Petrino because he quit the Falcons you are naive and should quit believing the crap the media is feeding you.

Dont think i need the media to tell me the coach is a quitter. When the going gets rough, Petrino gets going. Not sure i would want my son playing for a guy with that mentality.

FWIW, I'm doing a study for NFLDraftGuys on touches by a college RB in their last college season to see if there is any correlation to their success in the NFL and if Felix Jones was drafted in the first 3 rounds, he would have the second lowest number of touches per game in his last college season as anyone drafted in the first 3 rounds from 2001 - 2008. Only Brian Leonard would have fewer, with 10.08 touches per game to Jones' 11.46. Doesn't necessarily mean anything that I have determined yet although the guys around him on that list besides Leonard are Eric Shelton and Greg Jones. Of course McFadden took away a ton of touches (26.62 a game), but other tandems like Caddy (20.00) and Brown (15.58) and Bush (18.23) and LenDale (16.23) split touches more equally. I'm wondering if that is a positive endorsement of McFadden, a negative endorsement of Jones, or, as my GB Carlton would say, whether Nutt was an idiot?
Looking for a college coach who has not quit a job at some time in their past for a better job is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I don't know why Jones didn't get more touches either, so maybe I'll lean to the latter possibility.

I completely understand what Mr. P is saying and mostly agree. DMC is a special talent but he has a little "Bush" potential in him too. I'm not prepared to say Jones is a better talent but I also wouldn't be surprised if his career numbers weren't better than DMAC. And a lot of that could well be where he ends up. ADP wouldn't be ROY if he was in ATL or Houston, IMHO.
I think Jones would be wise to come out this year. With a new coach, most likely a new staff, new system coming in I could definitely see ARK struggling next year even with Jones staying and being a "workhorse" back and his draft stock drop. And there is always the danger of injury.

A bittersweet day for Hog fans but all in all I'd say great news. D-Mac and Felix made it official and announced they were turning pro but than we all knew that. It's also been reported today that Ryan Mallet has enrolled today for the Spring Semester at the University of Arkansas. Not only is Mallet going to shine in Petrino's system but this also further debunks the hot air everyone has been letting out about how recruits won't play for a guy like Petrino because he quit the Falcons. Petrino not only kept most of the commitments made when Nutt was the coach but he added a few and now he has added Mallet.

Didn't Mallet transfer from Michigan because he doesn't want to play in a spread offense and instead wants to play in a pro offense.Doesn't Petrino run a spread offense from his days at Louisville? Am I crazy to not understand this?
