Beastly WR James Hardy from IU declares for draft (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Bloomington, IN (Sports Network)

Indiana wide receiver James Hardy will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft. The 6-foot-7 Hardy had 79 catches for 1,125 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2007, helping the Hoosiers (7-6) to their first bowl appearance in 14 years, a 49-33 loss to Oklahoma State in the Insight Bowl.

"After carefully examining my football career here at Indiana University, and consulting with my family, I have concluded that I have reached the pinnacle of my college football career," Hardy said in a statement.

Hardy finished his IU career with 191 receptions for 2,740 yards and 36 touchdowns, all school records.
Jump balls or fade passes thrown anywhere near him in the red zone will be indefensible.I want him on all my dynasty rosters. :goodposting:

With all the talk of this guy recently I am interested in seeing him play.

Does anyone have any clips of this guy running routes or catching?

I hope to see what he can do at the combine.

Watched him live just once, seen him OWN, and I mean OWN Penn State's CB Justin King. Seriously, he took King's manhood in that game. Also, King is considered a first round prospect by many if he declares this year as a junior.

:football:Put this kid in a pro offense with any decent QB, and he will be unstoppable. He already knows how to use his size to box out defenders, being a former basketball player. I believe he actually committed to IU to play hoops, then realized his future would be in the NFL.

I think I read that too. Just like how Adarius Bowman, another intriguing prospect who sits at number 2 on my board behind Hardy. Bowman is a UNC transfer that played hoops for the Tar Heels. Hardy and Bowman ---- Woo Hoo!I like Hardy more because Bowman is coming off of an injury and would love to see him in the Eagles midnight green! :football: :boxing:

OK, I initially thought that I would like to see Hardy in a Bills uniform but after reading that breakdown I think Bowman would be a perfect fit as the Bills #2.

I don't see why people would think that, if he leaves early it will defiantly be a mistake on his part. He a lot of work left to do to even be considered ready at the pro level imo.

Thank you. His long strides take him a little bit to get going but once he's going he looks alright. Does a good job from what I saw catching the ball away from his body. And seems like a decent kid too.

after reading that, i would be stoked if the Eagles got Bowman.

Living in Indiana, I've watched this kid his whole college career. He is a great #2 candidate at the pro level. Plaxico is a good comparison, however I don't think he is as fast as Plax.

Great hands, uses his body better than any WR I can remember.

Plax ran a 4.6 coming out of Michigan State. I just Googled it. Hardy is a 4.4/4.5 guy.

If Oakland grabs McFadden in round 1, and either of these guys falls to them in round 2, I'll be :banned: for weeks!

Because you'd be pissed that the Raiders went for the glamor positions rather than trying to fix their team in the trenches on both sides of the ball where the games are really won and lost?

No, I'd be celebrating because this team desperately needs top-tier playmakers. It's been proven time and again that you can get bargain O-linemen later in the draft. We took Gallery at the top of round 1. How's that looking?

So since Marinovich was a bust you should never have drafted a QB in the first round again? You can get bargain players at any position later in the draft and with Michael Bush waiting in the wings and Fargas being paid near starter money, I think the Raiders would be wise to look elsewhere besides RB in round 1... but I'm not counting on them doing the wise thing.

I don't know why you are bring up Bush comparisons or what that has to do with the Raiders potentially going for glamor and skill positions over other positions of need in the draft, but if ">>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>" settles the discussion for you, have at it. Good luck in the draft!

YOU brought up "Bush waiting in the wings" as one of the reasons not to draft McFadden, which is laughable.HTH

My bad.For some reason I was thinking you were comparing McFadden to Reggie Bush. :bag:

As far as Michael Bush, he hasn't carried the ball once in the NFL so talk of his demise may be a bit premature. He seems, from his college career at least, a very good complement to Fargas for the running game.

Now that I think of it Reggie Bush may be a good comparison. He was a talent that "can't be passed up" and yet the Texans did and a strong argument can be made that their team is better for it.

fargus will always get hurt. bush is an unknown. so is mcfadden. i'd love to have them both & then go after one of these big ### wr's.

Hardy: Not very physical at the line, Hardy struggles in press coverage when matched up against a bigger defender. Corners usually play off of Hardy, respecting his game as a vertical threat. But when he’s challenged at the line, his momentum can be stalled.

Above from the article

I would assume they mean bigger in general and not bigger than him, unless they are covering him with a defensive end.

I must agree with Raider Nation on this one. Do the Raiders need help in the trenches, yes, they do. However if the Raiders want Jamarcus Russell to be succesfull they desprately need playmakers because right now they don't have enough playmakers IMO. Ideally with this running class being so deep I would rather see them trade back a few spots and get some more draft picks. Probably won't happen but i think that would be the best scenario for the Raiders.

RN probably knows his team better than most of us here, but it seems to me that Fargas and Curry are playmakers. Got to protect the young QB if you want him to succeed.

Fargas and Curry each have health issues every year, and Porter is as good as gone.If you can grab McFadden and one of those young WRs back-to-back to hook up with Russell, I believe you have to do it and address the line problems in other ways. Hutchinson came from Seattle to Minnesota in free agency. Steinback came from Cincinnati to Cleveland in free agency.

I am HUGE Penn State fan and i recall this game very well . He did own him that game . I was impressed. King is a very good corner too. And ever since that game i had my eye on Hardy hoping maybe he lands in Philly.

i'm a diehard Wolverine and i've always been squeamish about watching our CB's try to match up against Hardy. We've had some top talent at CB as well over the past few years. usually after a few series where he would dismantle marlin or leon hall much of the time we would put our 2nd CB(that POS morgan trent) and roll our safeties over him and try to make someone else on IU make plays. Hardy has all the physical tools in the world, probably the most to work with in the draft. could use some polish however

Tell us more about the Marlin / Hardy matchup. Hint: Marlin was drafted in April 2005.

That's quite a broad range. He's got height that no other WR hasHe's plenty quickHe has good handsHe's caught plenty of ball, so he's not that much of a projectWhat are the downsides here?
Not real physical, possible character concerns, a little raw, zero special teams help, huge group of very difficult to rank WRs. Fwiw, I'm one of his biggest supporters around here, but I couldn't commit to a projection range any tighter than those.

he would be a decent jump ball WR, but now that the corners can carry him off the field before his feet hit, that drops his value.#11 seems way too high to me, although I like the fit with Buffalo.

Corners will not be allowed to do that. They will call that a catch.

Are we talking extra curricular activities or work ethic?I like what little I've seen about him but the knock I keep hearing about him is his physicality, does he have room (somewhere amongst the 6'7 of him) to put on a few pounds without adversly affecting his speed?

He's caught plenty of ball, so he's not that much of a project

What are the downsides here?
Not real physical, possible character concerns, a little raw, zero special teams help, huge group of very difficult to rank WRs. Fwiw, I'm one of his biggest supporters around here, but I couldn't commit to a projection range any tighter than those.
Are we talking extra curricular activities or work ethic?I like what little I've seen about him but the knock I keep hearing about him is his physicality, does he have room (somewhere amongst the 6'7 of him) to put on a few pounds without adversly affecting his speed?
I don't know the whole story, but he apparently hit an ex-girlfriend and had another issue. Nothing last year, one as a freshman, one as a sophomore, iirc. I think it's minor stuff, but I'm not sure, thus the wide range. Work ethic looks fine, maybe not great, he could have a little more muscle on him, but his coaches were happy with him.

I like this guys statement:

"After carefully examining my football career here at Indiana University, and consulting with my family, I have concluded that I have reached the pinnacle of my college football career," Hardy said in a statement.
It sounds like he is serious about being the best football player he can be.
