THE BAD NEWS is that the season for my favorite teams is over. I grew up a Cowboy fan, I'm talking a "1-15 but at least we beat the Redskins" kind of Cowboy fan. Then after living a few years with the Seattle rain getting in my head, it was on Dec. 6, 2004 when the Cowboys beat the Seahawks that I realized the truth in my heart - I wanted the Seahawks to win. And I was hones with myself just in time to not be a bandwagon fan for the 05 season.

So with the Hawk loss yesterday, I found solace in the Cowboys presence as I could revert to my childhood team, but that was short lived.

My favorite team by marriage, the Browns have improved greatly but just short of being a playoff (but admittedly almost more deserving that the Seahawks were). Despite my faves being eliminated, there is THE GOOD NEWS...

We are guaranteed a great Super Bowl XLII storyline during the 2 week break for media saturation and overkill. Regardless of your favorite team, which Super Bowl plot do you think would be the best?

Plot 1: Classic Good vs. Evil

Green Bay Packers vs. New England Patriots

This storyline is obvious. The Brady led cheating, bullying, cocky, arrogant New England Patriots vs. the Favre led hard working, team centered, get'er done somehow (but get'er done honest) Green Bay Packers.

Sub plots include Season QB records vs. Career QB records, Super Bowl XXXI rematch and roster comparisons, and of course the '72 Dolphins potential public endorsement of Favre for President.

Plot 2: Grasping for New Glory

New England Patriots vs. New York Giants

In the first ever Super Bowl meeting between teams that both begin with NEW, the Patriots seek to be the first ever historic 19-0 undefeated team while Peyton Manning's little brother seeks a glorious prison break from the shadows by leading his team to a shocking upset over what would have been the greatest team in the history of the NFL becoming known now. Sub plots:

1) MVP Discussions - Brady attempts to become first ever player to get 3rd Super Bowl MVP as Eli Manning attempts to become first brother a year after Peyton but in a bold move requests that he now be know only by his first name ELI.

2)Old York and Old England - in the UK the Ceremonial Leaders the Sheriff of York (Yorkshire) and the Queen of England make a little side bet on the game.

Plot 3: Eli Manning Grudge Match

For two weeks we see every possible comparison of Eli Manning's stats with SD QB stats ever since the 2004 draft. We will be sick of seeing the photo of Eli's pouty face holding a Chargers jersey. If the Giants were to win, San Diego fans may actually attempt to burn down Eli's place.

Sub plot: Wild Card dreams do come true. A history of wild card teams that have won the Super Bowl.

Plot 4: The Warm Fuzzy Super Bowl

Everybody wins in this emotional celebration of tears shed and dreams realized. If Favre moving from the verge of retirement to father figure of this young over achieving team that defies isn't enough to cause your eyes to moisten, then certainly the story of the community service and bonding of the San Diego team & community during the wild fires that sparked the Chargers to be a winning team definitely will turn on the tears.

Sub plots headlines read:

"Chargers feel like home team after practicing in Arizona earlier this season."

"Packers at home in weather extremes? Differences between the tundra & the desert."

"LT best running back in league gets first shot at the big one"

So which plot do you like best? Vote now!

The good vs. Evil matchup is the most compelling. I think it is safe to say that about 80% of the country will be rooting for Favre.

New England vs. Green Bay

Patriots striving for perfection and Brady attempting to get his 4th ring, vs. Brett Favre trying to win his second title at 38-years of age.

G vs E is a little bit of a wrong title. It's old vs new. A rematch of the game that returned the trophy to Lombardi-ville. The best QB against the new best QB, both already legends. The veteran QB with a young cast against the veteran D. The high powered offense against the fast, physical and young GB D. So many stories in this one.

My next favorite would be the Battle of ShEli. Love to see SD send Eli to the sidelines with that "I just woke up from a bender with Shocker and we ended up in the same hotel room and I can't remember what happened" look.

While it sometimes seems like it on these boards, 20% of the people in this country are not patriot fans, and pretty much everyone else will be rooting for Favre, so I think the number is actually higher than 80%.BTW, the plot-line for NYG-NE is Brady vs. (the wrong) Manning.

Giants / Chargers :The Eli Manning story. Eli drafted by the Chargers with the #1 overall but refuses to play for them. A trade is worked out with the Giants sending him to New York for Phillip Rivers. And now both meet in Super Bowl 42.Patriots / Packers:Rematch of Super Bowl 31. Belichick, now widely considered the great coach of this era and perhaps of all time, suffered his only Super loss in that game at the hands of the future HOFer Bret Favre. 5 wins and that 1 loss, as defensive coordinator of the Patriots. Can Favre do it again, or does Belichick get revenge?Patriots / Giants:The Giants seemed had locked up a playoff berth but were not considered an elite team heading into a week 17 game at home vs the Patriots. Giants HC Tom Coughlin decides to play his starters the whole game with nothing to play for to try to stop the Patriots from going 16-0. While the Patriots won, the Giants never looked better, and went on a roll from that game to win 3 road games and get to the Super Bowl, only to meet the Patriots once again.Chargers / Packers: These two teams have only met 8 times since 1970. The Packers won 7 of those meetings, only losing in 1984 at Lambeau. This is more of a "novel" matchup, with two teams with different traditions that rarely converge. However, former Packers WR James Lofton, in the Packers HOF, is currently the WR coach for the Chargers.

I think GB vs NE would be remembered for a long time and migt go down in history as one of the most important Super Bowls, but the one I'd like to see the most is NYG vs NE.

I'm not sure how we are defining "the best" here. So, I'll just pick the one I want to see. Packers vs Chargers. Just because I'd love to see San Diego finally celebrate something for once, and failing that Green Bay only has 1 title in the last 40 years. The city of New York has far too many titles to ever root for them in any sport and Boston is right up there as well.

I think it would be hilarious if we got a rematch of the most meaningful meaningless game ever.

I'd probably root for a NE/GB bowl, though.

The matchup I dread is Boston / New York. Like we need the two megaplexes battling each other yet AGAIN. I hope they both lose.

Do you realize that the city of New York has 51 sports championships combined counting all their pro teams? Do you realize that Boston has 31? They are the top 2 in the list of US cities with sports championships.

New York 51

Boston 31

Chicago 23

Detroit 21

Los Angeles 16

Philadelphia 14

Pittsburgh 12

St. Louis 12

Baltimore 8

Cleveland 7

Minneapolis 7

Oakland 7

Washington DC 7

Dallas 6

Green Bay 6

Oakland 6

Cincinnati 5

Miami 5

San Francisco 5

To this day I'll never understand why Detroit sports fans feel like they are cursed. They are #4 on the list!

By best I just intended the most entertaining... the one that would make the Best movie or even "NFL Films Presentation" for future generations to see. Certainly, personal opinion has a lot to do with it. If you hate the Patriots, it's hard to say it would make a great NFL film for future generations. I'm mostly just curious what people think about the potential stories.

I think you missed the boat on what the Patriots-Packers matchup will be. Good vs Evil? No...it will be a contest to see which QB gets his #### sucked by the media more. I mean, seriously...I'm a Pats fan and I get sick of the worship by the media. And Favre has been getting the same treatment for a decade longer.

Where's Seattle on that list? Do we get to count the Seattle Storm in 2004? Where's our kudos for being the first American city to hoist the Stanley Cup in 1917? Come on... the 1979 Sonics? Oh well, here's hoping for a glorious sports future here...They should spot us 14 points at the beginning of every NFL playoff game to give us a better shot... oh wait... I guess they sorta did this weekend... Next year baby!

I pull for Seattle every year because of their lack of titles.
