2008 Senior Bowl Coverage (1 Viewer)

There's a rumor that Atlanta has taken Leslie Frazier to the Senior Bowl. Keep your eyes peeled for me?

Sedrick ellis is such a beast. He's always played damn well but fell in the shadow of Glen Dorsey this year. Oakland should hope and pray for him to reach them.

Not impressed with Bowman as I once was. Drops are killing him and with several tall recievers in this draft, he is not distinguishing himself from the rest of the pack. In fact, this definately hurts his stock.

Two players that should be getting more hype are Terell Thomas and Tracey Porter. Porter especially is a stud. Tavares Gooden is another such player.

Mayock has Henne as the #2 QB on his board. Oof.

Chris Johnson 5'10"+ 195 with small hands. Not good.
Small hands...I give you Adarius Bowman: 6'-2" with 8 3/8" SMALL hands. Heck my hands are bigger than his. Just for a stunning comparison, I beleive J.L. Higgins at 5'-11" has 10.5" hands. THOSE are mits for catching errant Russell passes. Not sure what Bowman is gonna be able to do in the NFL with those tiny hands. One better D.J. Hall with 8" hands.

"I was thinking the same thing, not sure it really means much though."

He lost one fumble all year (and that was in the bowl game) and almost never drops a pass. He will go higher than people think (maybe a low first). Could be a very good pro in the right offense. He took a lot of passes to the house so he knows to catch it first and then hit the jets. Matter of fact, he was used in the slot quite a bit as well. I'm an ECU homer...had to chime in.

I was thinking the same thing with Justin Forsett - 10 1/2" hands.. biggest hands amongst the RBs, despite being the smallest back there. Heck, only one OL had bigger hands amongst all the players at the Senior Bowl. Strange.

i would think that hand size would be significantly more important for WR than RB. Having said that, a players hand size isnt going to be a deciding factor on whether or not i draft a player.

Southern Cal, North Carolina, and Oklahoma in the North? No wonder these guys struggle on the Wonderlic.

I know you guys are there to scout players, but I'd be thankful for any Kiffin info you can provide. Specifically, how does he seem to be getting along with Rob Ryan? Do they appear cordial? Tense?

I don't understand this quote about Sedrick Ellis:

Looked like a top 10 pick today, but not even a first rounder earlier in the week.
Reports are he's been dominant all week? :rolleyes:Man am I liking what I'm hearing about Keith Rivers, Lavelle Hawkins, Andre Caldwell, and Chris Williams.Sounds liike Colin was right about Marcus Griffin.

From what I've read, you seem to be pretty impressed with the 5'8 Justin Forsett. What makes you think he won't be another Troy Davis? Who does he remind you of? Does he have any chance of being a feature back?

I used to be a big fan of Troy Davis, 2x 2,000 yard rusher in college, etc.I can tell you without a doubt that Forsett is NOT another Troy Davis.Forsett has elite vision, that most backs do not have. It's the vision that allows him to see cutback lanes as they are forming. He has the athletic ability to get to the hole quickly, and he is in the 2nd level before you know it. Troy Davis did not have the vision (very few backs do), and it was apparent by his lack of creativity between the tackles. Justin also has great patience as a runner. He is in complete control when he runs, and is often setting up defenders into taking bad angles. When he turns on that burst he can get by the defense in a hurry. Troy was a patient runner, but he did not have near the athletic ability of Forsett. Thus, the holes in the NFL would close up before he was able to pick up positive yards. Finally, Forsett has GREAT hands. His hands are huge, and he hardly ever drops a pass (even poorly thrown passes). Troy Davis did not have good hands.I love what I've seen from Forsett because of his great INSTINCT to run the football. His vision is top notch, and he has the athletic ability to be an effective inside/outside runner. He'll never be a pile pusher, but being a willing inside runner will make him useful on all downs, and not just a 3rd down back. The best comparison right now is Brian Westbrook.

thanks man, these are great. would you mind just living on the road for the next few months? please?
we'll be in El Paso next week for the TX v The Nation game, and after that we have some training facilities to go to. Let's just say I love the frequent flyer miles.we are working hard from now until we arrive in NYC for the NFL Draft (with full media credentials baby!).

be on the lookout for more big announcements soon!

i agree with your Forsett assessment, except that i dont think he has the speed to outrun NFL defenses. Has he shown any long run speed?

I was there Tuesday and Wed. To me Porter is to short! The guy I was impressed with the most was Hawkings. Guy was catching everything in site. I also thought Ainge and Brennan looked terrible. Breenan get ready for Arena Football buddy!!!

Wed. There was a great fight by 2 Big Uglies. Both Small school guys on the south team trying to make a name for each other.

Good info Cecil, thanks. I know it's early, but who are a few third round picks that are first round talent, in your opinion? And this question is aimed at whoever wants to answer. Yourself included of course.

So who's looking good?

Who should have stayed home?
Looking GoodJustin Forsett - great vision, quicks, and pad speed

Lavelle Hawkins - superb route running ability

Jacob Hester - power between the tackles

Jordy Nelson - aka "Results" because he gets the job done

Gosder Cherilus - HUGE prospect with some fire

Heath Benedict - moving up the ranks, mean streak all day

Chris Williams - extremely athletic for a big man

Sedrick Ellis - an absolute beast, will command constant double teaming

Cliff Avril - fantastic motor, knows how to hand fight

Keith Rivers - Faletti loves this cat, and for good reason - Rivers is a demon

Chevis Jackson - all over his man, very physical

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - very quiet, but very talented

Struggling in Mobile

Colt Brennan - only weighs 185 lbs, awkward throwing motion leads to batted passes, not enough zip to throw sideline routes

Chris Johnson - I was :excited: by his performance this week. his speed didn't stand out, and he is not instinctive between the tackles, then he got hurt

Dorien Bryant - was pushed off his routes, failed to make plays when the ball was thrown his way

Kirk Barton - was regularly beat by most any DL in the pit, seemed to be outmatched on most every snap

Forsett more than likely won't have great timed speed. He is more quick than fast. He did show good pad speed on the field at Mobile. Pad speed coupled with that vision/quickness will make him play faster than he times on a track.

That was Heath Benedict v Kendall LangfordLangford was going at HB with haymakers, he looked like Alonzo Mourning out there, flailing his arms and not connecting.

Benedict was aggressive with everyone in the pit, and scouts are moving him up the charts.

Great Job as always. Thanks

Does anyone know if there are any Mountaineers or Big East guys in the game. Need to look at the roster.

Brennen throwing a picture on this 2nd or 3rd throw. So much for trying to fix his image

EDIT: Cool Owen Schmitt is playing on the North. How has he been doing in the practices?

Any one watching?

Rodgers-Cromartie following up his good practice week with a great game.

None of the QB's looking impressive. Flacco has a good arm, but had a horrible INT.

Forte and Choice ran hard (as well as the FB's from both teams).I was unimpressed with ALL the QB's. None of them looked like they would be successful on the next level. Ainge's throws looked like wounded ducks. Woodson had a wind up that took entirely to long to release and he made several stupid mistakes.Adarius Bowman is overrated and I haven't seen anything from him that would make me wanna draft him. I'd rather take a shot on some of the smaller school guys.I saw Dan Connor get ran over once or twice...he did have a pick though. Rivers was all over the place but got ran over late by Forte when they were on their game winning drive.I really didn't see anything from Xavier Adibi or Philip Wheeler. Dizon was around the ball a lot but too far down the field for my liking. Woodyard was almost invisible except when he stayed home on the nice play to prevent the first down.Sedrick Ellis...is a BEAST. And I'm thinking he's the better prospect than Dorsey. DRC is a playmaker. They also said he's been training with Deion Sanders...don't know if that is a good or bad thing since Deion refused to tackle. He and Ellis were the two brightest spots in that game. It appears to be a deep rookie class at the RB position but severely hurting at the other skill positions. Maybe if we could take all the QB's and mix them up into one elite QB it would be ok. But each of them had maybe one thing they did well. Booty with the ability to throw on the run, Henne with his command of the huddle, Flacco with his strong arm, and Ainge with his ability to be effective when the clock is winding down. Not a whole lot to be excited about with this years class.

Senior Bowl will change name to 'No Talent Bowl' next year.Wow, the skill postions were hurting in this game. :loco:
This is true almost by defintion. The most talented skill players, especially RB and WR, are normally juniors, who are not able to play in the game. Even still, the best seniors generally all find some reason injury or agent not to play.

I must of watched a dozen practices of the Senior Bowl last year. You got to watch a lot of the players go through the 1 on 1 drills which was interesting to see how each player possibly stacked up. I think I only got 3 episodes Tivo'd this year in total... barely any footage of the players doing drills, but rather intervies for all the 49er coaches. what a rip
