Getting Yahoo to Implement a Dynasty League Option (1 Viewer)

chook

Footballguy
Do any of you out there use Yahoo for dynasty leagues, and is there any chance that if enough people wrote to them asking for year-round access to leagues that they might ever include it as an option?

My (IDP) dynasty league is 7 years old now, with extremely knowledgeable team managers from all across the US and (if you count me) the world.

The problem is that they have become extremely attached to the user-friendly interface of Yahoo - we even pay the $130 for the 'Plus' option. In the offseason we move over to Yahoo Groups for our draft, messageboard, trades and file library (stats, reports, etc).

I created an MFL league last year during the free trial stage and while some of the guys saw the light and thought it was brilliant, the rest were too afraid of it stuffing up like the time we tried to run a mirror-league on the horrible FoxSports platform.

Cheers,

Chook.

No offense, but most Dynasty League players wouldn't settle for Yahoo.

MFL or another site is the better service for year-round.

Asking Yahoo to make a Dynasty option is like asking Walmart to carry caviar - the clienteles just don't mix....

You know, for $130 you could almost afford to run versions of the league on MFL and on RTS simultaneously. Both of which are consistently amongst the highest rated sites here in the Shark Pool.

I think your better bet is to get your leaguemates to give one of them a try. Don't let a bad experience on a website that hasn't shown to be a popular choice for managing leagues stop you from trying out one that has been a popular choice for quite a few years now.

Just my :bowtie:

Thanks Greg. As I mentioned earlier, $$ isn't the problem, but the interface of MFL scared a few of the guys off. I have to admit, Yahoo is very well put together and easy to manage for those 'older' guys who have been into this caper since the phone-in days.Whether it be MFL, Yahoo or whatever, I'm happy for the league to stick together after almost a decade, and while there clearly are other options available, SURELY yahoo could cater for the dynasty leaguers by now?!I'm just wondering if there are any others in here actually stupid enough to pay the $130 each year for Plus like we do who would be keen for an extended version of the game.

Tell me about it. But some of these guys felt that moving to Yahoo and having an international in the league was bad enough. To be fair though, the commish is brilliant and provides a ridiculous amount of statistical analysis each week, hence the difficulty in trying to move them.Surely if Yahoo are happy to ask for people to pay $130 they could be open to suggestion on a dynasty option?

Maybe, but I don't think that the Dynasty option is a direction that Yahoo Sports is heading. That's just my opinion. Yahoo wants the mainstream and the biggest bang for their buck, and niche leagues don't cut it. I'm not sure if they see that they can get the return on their efforts if they go down that road. Obviously if Dynasty blows up they'll do it, but their football coverage dies from now until July/August.

CBS might be an "in between" option.

I used it for several years, but have "seen the light" as it were, and am moving over to MFL. CBS does have the ability to keep the simpler dynasty leagues going without issue, while giving that more "polished" look over a vanilla MFL league that might work better with the MFL-dissenters.

Its not great, and it costs more than its worth, but if you're dropping $130 on Yahoo already then you're probably used to that.

It's actually not that basic a league - everything is recorded manually, which makes me want to pull my hair out that some don't want to consider the move! And they're not anti-MFL, they're simply anti-moving anywhere. CBS is probably even more daunting to them.Although now the NFL season is over it's time for my annual attempt to lure them across. Maybe this is the year.

Anti MFL, but do run a dynasty on Yahoo for a group who refuse to use any other service because of the cost/ease factor. I feel your pain, while i do like the yahoo interface far more than the MFL one, I too am sick of manually keeping records 1/2 of the year. I really dont care i'll adjust to what ever platform i'm on but my problem is the other owners want to keep the money in winnings rather than ease of the league (mostly because they dont have to do anything). It would make things easier if yahoo did have some service 12 months a year.

If you figure out a way to make them listen I'd be down to help out. Depending on the cost i'd probably just fork over the money to make my life easier, but as it stands there is not an option to switch platforms because my league mates would not stand for it. None of them are all that into fanasy but we've had the league for 10+ years and its the only time a bunch of friends from college ever communicate so i'd never think about leaving it.

my dynasty league has just decided to move away from Yahoo for the same EXACT reason after 7 years. We have to have a year round site. Myself and 3 others of the 12 team league wanted to move over to MFL however we got nixed by the other 8 b/c it isn't as snazy or whatever. now we are at the point where we are between cbssportsline and nfl.com and I think that nfl.com looks better. i've played on sportsline for a couple years in other leagues but after looking at nfl.com, i am leaning their way.

What would you guys choose for a year round dynasty league if it's between cbssportsline and nfl.com?

I'm in a Yahoo keeper, pay the 130.

I think if your league isn't that into fantasy football, it is nearly impossible to move them. The Yahoo interface is too familiar and confusing them with another league is daunting because they are already getting killed without the confusion.

One way to help them see the light might be to rotate some of those manual responsibilities. Your guys seem like they are into it enough you might convince them that it is a fair way to do it and it would get done right. Let them feel your pain. Ask your the guys that oppose the move to help out first. They will know exactly what you are doing though. If you don't move, at least you'll have help.

Some things you could delagate:

Awards and collections - getting rid of this made me the happiest

Setting up a draft - Rotating the cost and time put into your drafts could make them even better

Offseason tracking - I like to do it and keep it consistent, but help from different league mates with different expertise and ideas have helped in the past

Take a look at ESPN too. They seem to improve every year. I would hold off drafting through them, but I think they offer a keeper option. Manual load and see what features they offer each year. I really enjoyed my league with them this year and it was free.

Some of the nice features:

Free live scoring

ranking of IDPs & can seperate S & CB, DE, LB, DT

Not too bad of an adjustment from Yahoo

Graphics for player icons and Commishioner build

If you live draft through them, use the lo fi version. The other is beautiful, but started picking players from ESPNs rankings when there was lag. It was much less of a problem as people switched to the lo fi version.

Well it looks as though Yahoo have finally done it and added a keeper element to the Plus option. Don't know how well this bodes for full blown dynasty, but at least it's a start.

i would suggest this for you as well. It seems to have the best of both worlds between yahoo and MFL which would be perfect for your league. The interface is pretty simple, possibly less confusing than yahoo. And ESPN runs there fantasy football all year round, making it ideal for keeper/dynasty leagues. Best of all,it has live scoring and all the other stuff that Yahoo Plus offers, for free. MFL is clearly the best fantasy football host out there, but if your league mates aren't fans of that i would strongly suggest ESPN.
