I've never heard of them, but I think I'm going to get one as well. I've been in the market for a cheap watch for a couple of weeks and they look pretty good. I'll probably order it off E-bay as they are $350+ down here in the few stores that stock that model.....not sure if I'm going neutral or black yet.

I believe Bulova is good in this price range.

I wear a Citizen Eco-Drive which I think was less than $200.

Re: the 2nd SkagenI don't like multi-function sub-dials at all. A calendar window is a useful feature, but when the date is displayed on a teeny-tiny subdial at the 6 o'clock position, it's much harder to read at a glance.

The sub-dials are just there for show to make the watch look like a chronograph. Who really needs a sub-dial to tell them it's Monday?

That being said, it's not a bad looking watch although a bit small at 38mm. The average case size nowadays is 40-42mm.

I got the Ti version of the 2nd one you posted. Gorgeous watch... fit and finish is stellar and it's very accurate. Get many compliments on it and couldn't be happier.
 
My girlfriend bought me a Skagen for my birthday two months ago. Very similar to the one you posted but it's this one....

I love this watch because it's stylish, but the face is extremely thin. Big :( in my book, retails for like $150

I can go through hundreds of pages of watches and see nothing I like. I'll be sitting in a meeting at work and see two but i can't get those, because someone else already has them. Looking for something in the $200 to $500 range I guess, been looking for six months.

I've had a few friends go tith Invicta, and they seem REALLY cheap.Being a typical FBG my daily wear watch is a Seamaster.

But for price I'm a big fan of Tissot. Good cross section of quality and price.

Yeah the Tissots are really nice, good selection but I haven't found the perfect one just yet. Also looking through Nixons lately, very different look and feel.

If you're looking for an update of a classic dress watch, this Tissot Visodate is very nice and in the sub-$500 range I think. It got a retro look but at 40mm it's larger than a vintage piece.The relative strength of the Swiss Franc isn't helping prices any. The higher end import-only Seikos like these have also gone up dramatically in the past couple of years.

those are some nice pieces. i haven't seen those and very intrigued.
 
Yeah Fossil watches are terrible. I have one I bought a couple of years ago and it has like three batteries in it, and takes a jeweler to open. One of the batteries dies every ten days, I just gave up.

For under $150 and for usually under $100, the best buy as far as brand IMO is Guess. I've had two of them over the past ten years and they both still work and they are pretty attractive and durable.

Don't own anything but a (decent) Rolex ripoff an employee gave me for Xmas a few years back. However, I really like some of Nixon's designs.

I have the gold one. That's actually what I came in here to say - maybe take a look at eBay. I bought mine for $175 (retails for about $800) and 12 years later, it still works like a charm.
 
I went to Jared, he went to Jared!

Anyway they have pretty bad customer service as the guy was struggling to figure out various watch functions. I like the Bulova watches best because of the second hand stream but I don't love their styles. Tissot is still preferred because I like this and this but want a stainless steal band. Leather cracks, rubber stinks and straw doesn't seem practical. This is maybe what I'll get as I see it is $200 cheaper than it was at Jared and I also like this one.

I thought Jared was an Otis store, but they don't have Fossil there. Interesting.

My last three watched were Fossil, Fossil, and Guess. All three were crap. None of them work right now. I use my cell phone. want to buy a something nice that will last me ten years,
 
I probably posted this in the thread already, but Skagen has some nice inexpensive watches - very light, which is a plus in my book.

Most <$100 watches with the possible exception of Casio, Seiko and a small handful of others are meant to be disposible. Production is jobbed out to Chinese factories. The watches have non-jeweled quartz movements, plastic spacers and poor water resistancy. They'll tell time fine until the battery dies or you get moisture inside. There's nothing wrong with them if you find a style you like.$100-$300 is a tough range because it includes watches that are functional equivalents of the cheapies but have a better brand name and case. It also includes higher quality quartz and lower end mechanical movements. I think the variability of quality at this price point is the highest.Once you get above $300, most but not all of the crap has been winnowed out. There's still a huge range of brands and styles. You can argue about quartz and mechanical or chrono vs. non-chrono models but most everything in this range should at least last a while.There are exceptions of course. You can get a G-Shock for $80 that's virtually indestructable, has a solar charged battery that should last a decade and will sync up to Fort Collins every night.
 
I don't wear a watch anymore but I believe my Bulova Accutron was $200 or a little less.

The Bulova brand was acquired by Citizen last year and has completely changed over their line. There's a new model called the Precisionist that's supposedly accurate to 10 sec. year. I'm not crazy about their designs--visible countersunk screws as a design element seems like it'll go out of style quickly. But 10 sec. year is a cool albeit useless feature.
