Comparing Charles to Chris Johnson, is Charles rated higher because the level of competition among opponents?

Speed = Johnson

Size = ? Charles weighs 200 @ 6'1" Johnson weighs 195 @ 5'11" - who can put on a few pounds?

Quickness, Elusive = ?

Vision = ?

Receiving = Johnson

Blocking = ?

Breaking tackles = ?

Work ethic = ?

Intangibles = Johnson with his ability to score returning kicks

Pure football player = ? could be the main factor, who has the "it" factor as a football player more than a track star playing football?

What do you see as the answers to above questions and who has the better chance to succeed at the next level.

Charles, despite being a Junior, has more experience toting the rock and so I have to give him the edge in basic instinctual running skills (vision, ball security, running downhill). Johnson has much more wiggle and probably better balance, though he has obviously taken advantage of his elusiveness in ways he won't be able to in the NFL. The worry I have with both RBs (and Johnson in particular) is that they will not be able to gain the tough yards between the tackles. Johnson does however have a clear edge in the receiving and returning game. Charles with a slight edge in pure strength, though the question I have is who is actually tougher? And maybe the dealbreaker- who will work the hardest? This will go hand in hand in their willingness to get in peak physical condition and developing intangible skills such as blocking.

Both RBs are very fast. One flaw I have seen with Johnson is that many times he tries to bounce outside. I watched a lot of Charles. He runs upright and bends at the waist more than his knees. He does not have a lot of quickness, per se, but is decent at side-stepping the defender. Neither guy should be an every down back, and the potential of each will probably be defined by who drafts them. The Johnson fans will argue that he looks like Westbrook, but he does not like the contact and tries to outrun defenders.

Can't speak for Charles but as an ECU grad I've watched a lot of CJ. His speed is his moneymaker no doubt (and it is world-class in all directions) and his ability to go from zero to full out is magic. THAT is why he bounces outside so much. In the college game he was THAT much faster than the other team's best DB's and if he could just get a crease he was gone. How that translates to the pro's will be the key.

When he did run through the tackles he did so with authority and only had one fumble all year (of course it was in the spotlight and almost lost the game for us).

His return game is what will push him up a little higher as he not only doesn't mind it but thrives on it and his hands are fantastic despite being so small (he catches the ball well and if he is in space he is very dangerous). He is a very hard worker and busted his a#$ to get better in between the tackles his senior year and it showed.

Here's some cool vids of him....The first two are the same run from different angles (he can fly)!!

Enjoy!!!

I love Johnson...as a 3DRB/passing down RB and return specialist. I think he could be a solid NFL RB, but nothing special in fantasy. Jamal Charles? TatumBellclone

ducks and hides from Abraham's onslaught

As much as I hate the Pats he would be a very good third round pickup to take over for Faulk and be a return man (although they really don't get many returns do they?).
