What are your hopes for the NFL draft? Free Agency? Etc
We have Jones, Wahle, SPencer, RG and Locklear. Other than who is going to play RG, the line is set and much improved from last year already. OL is very low on the offseason need list after signing Wahle and re-signing Locklear.O-Line. We can get by with everything else but we need to get young and physical this year, we can't afford to wait on some of these guys to develop.![]()
Jones is more a name now than a dominate Left Tackle. He is still very good but not dominate, especially in the run game. The run game is where we need to improve. I got sick and tired of watching either back last season having to break tackles and struggle to get back to the line of scrimmage against average at best defenses. I would rank the unit last year as above average in pass blocking and below average to poor in run blocking. I had no delusions of making it far in the playoffs last year just passing the ball with scheme WR's.mad sweeney said:We have Jones, Wahle, SPencer, RG and Locklear. So ProBowl and AllPro honors last year notwithstanding, we need to replace Jones? He's still better than most LTs in the game and still has 3-5 good years left in him at least. Jones is absolutely the least of our worries on the line. Having a good LG next to him will help tremendously, especially in the run game, instead of the carousel of mediocre guards that were rotated in last season and gave up ground like a sieve. He's not as dominaNT as he once was but he's still a tremendous LT. The guy was All Pro again last season, which is a much less subjective honor than ProBowl (which he was yet again a starter). So I cannot even guess where you are coming from if you think Jones is an issue.I guess I just don't understand your point. You say Jones is still very good, but the OL needs to improve. They got a ProBowl LG in Wahle and a new line coach. Starting OL player acquisition has now become a secondary priority.Jones is more a name now than a dominate Left Tackle. I'm going to disagree with you a bit on that. They were bad in run block, don't get me wrong, but having a back who goes down when you sneeze his way doesn't help one bit. And Morris is not a starting RB. Few teams have a dominant line, but many put up good numbers because they have RBs that can make something out of nothing. SA makes less than nothing out of nothing. My point is that for the most part, the deficiencies on the line have been dealt with already and at this point personnel wise an it is not a priority anymore to look for bodies. It needs work, and some depth but the pieces have already been put in place with the signings of Wahle and Locklear and the new OL coach. They can concentrate on other team needs, like a RB that can break a tackle or put his nose down and drive for a yard.My point was not to belittle Walter Jones. My point was the OLine was just as responsible for the running game woes as anyone last year. I like Locklear and Jones, I have my doubts about Spencer, and I like the addition of Wahle but we'll have to see. The interior of our line needs to improve a lot. You can't get beat at the point of attack and expect to win consistently.
If the Hawks want Stewart or Mendenhall, it will be interesting to see what players/picks the Hawks use to move up. No way either of these guys are still available at 25.The Scientist said:I want either Stewart, Mendenhall, or TE Davis in the first round. Anything else will dissapoint me. (In that order). I hear they are looking at Chris Johnson. That may be a second round option for us.
You can tally up one more person that thinks the oline IS the main reason for run woes last year. Last years run blocking was pathetic at best. I think(hopefully) that the additions of Wahle and oline coach Solari will help with that.I'm going to disagree with you a bit on that. I see many mock drafts having Seattle taking a TE in the first round. I just don't see how in Seattle's offense, using a #1 pick on a TE makes sense. When has Seattle ever had a quality TE? Certainly not during the Holmgren years. RB is a much bigger need then TE in my opinion. The Scientist said:I want either Stewart, Mendenhall, or TE Davis in the first round. A big part of the lack of a decent TE during the Holmgren years was the team's devotion to dear Jerramy Stevens, who held back this aspect of the offense for a good portion of this time period. As an aside, I would love to see Foster come in and to seecatching out the backfield into put into the play book again.I see many mock drafts having Seattle taking a TE in the first round. That is the last thing I want. All three of those guys have potential to be really good. Kent is the least pollished of all of them but he also has the most potential. I think Obomanu showed enough last year for the Seahawks to not resign Hackett. Obumanu will be the #4 WR this year. What are the thoughts on the young WRs, Obomanu, Taylor and Kent?

Branch won't be back until mid season and will likely not be near 100% all of next season. I think whoever is "#4" will get a lot of playing time in Branch's absence, especially in the first half of the season. It will also give Taylor and/or Kent a lot of opportunities like Obumanu had last season. Also as long as Frye is showing himself to be competent at running the O, I expect to see Seneca Wallace out there in a lot more plays than he was last season. Even more after that when a less conservative/anti-trick play coach takes over. All three of those guys have potential to be really good. Brown is dead to meAnyone have an idea why Josh Brown turned down our offer to make him the highest paid kicker in the NFL (5yrs $14mil) to sign with the division rival Rams? He had to have been unhappy about something. Only thing I can think of is he wanted to move back closer to home in Tulsa, OK. I don't mind not having to overpay for a kicker though. There's always plenty out there.Nice to see us cut Ashworth. He has been worhtless since his signing. Hopefully now we can sign Trufant and Crumpler like it sounds like should happen by the end of the weekend.
Hmph. Not happy about that, but want to wait until I see numbers before I write him off completely. Oh wait he's a Ram, he automatically gets written off. What a pisser for him to go to St Louis. Unless the money is significantly bigger I can't think of a reason to leave. Unless he wants to play 8 games a year more in a dome than he did in Seattle.Anyone have an idea why Josh Brown turned down our offer to make him the highest paid kicker in the NFL (5yrs $14mil) to sign with the division rival Rams? 4 years, 14.2 mil 4 as signing bonus. Guess that's enough of a difference to move out of town and become public enemy #3.mad sweeney said:Hmph. Free agent RB T.J. Duckett is expected to sign with the Seahawks, according to Booth Newspapers.Seattle needs a new power back to pair with Shaun Alexander. The Lions initially showed interest in retaining Duckett, but are looking for more speed.
What precisely are you confused about? Short distance running was atrocious last year, a powerful SD back is precisely what the running game needs. We know for a fact that unless there is a hole or if a DL's arm is in the way SA won't get it. I like this move as 3rd downs with Weaver and Duckett in there might actually be productive and keep defenses guessing. If true, a good signing.Per Rotoworld

How many roster spots are they going to keep for RB's? Alexander, Morris, Weaver, Duckett, Draft Pick, PearmanSo lets say you cut Pearman. You still need to cut one more RB IMO. So who is it going to be? Ruskell has said he will not make SA take a paycut and from the sounds of his interview he will keep SA this year. What precisely are you confused about? I dunno, but if someone becomes available and you have a need, you fill it. Duckett is a known commodity, won't be challenging for the start and is probably very reasonably priced. They can deal with roster spots, I don't know all the variables. I do know that TJ is a better short yardage back than any of those guys listed. In other news, FA LBs Bentley (Houston) and Koutavides (Denver) are gone. Which leaves our special teams minus a kicker, a long snapper, a captain and another standout. They should be relatively easy to replace, but were both very good STers and valuable backups. How many roster spots are they going to keep for RB's? Seahawks franchise player Marcus Trufant has reportedly lowered his contract demands and is willing to take less money than Asante Samuel. Samuel got a six-year, $57 million deal with $32 million in the first three years. Trufant, a Tacoma native, is expected to seek $20 million guaranteed.
Great Defense, ressurgent O-Line, and Matt Hasslebeck?Just seems to me like the Seahawks' recent run is over. Alexander is basically finished - whether he stays on the team or not. The WR corps is in shambles. Holmgren is leaving after this year. Am I missing a reason to be optimistic here?
I'm confused. I assume Seattle is going to draft a RB (at least I hope), which would leave them with SA, Morris, Duckett, and drafted RB. Unless they are planning on releasing Morris, I dont understand this at all.I'm not sure what Duckett brings that having Weaver at HB and Kirtman at FB cannot. What precisely are you confused about? I really think Alexander is going to end up getting cut. With Duckett and Morris, I think they can now take a RB with their first-round pick and not have to be in a position where the rookie has to start right away. I think that's the end of the line for Alexander. The Scientist said:I was wondering the same thing. This means someone is getting cut.I'm confused. I agree. Great at home maybe. On the road? Average. Unless I missed something the seahawks are still in the NFC west and until the league changes the rules will continue hosting a playoff game."great" defense is over-selling it a little, isn't it?Incogneto said:Great Defense, ressurgent O-Line, and Matt Hasslebeck?Just seems to me like the Seahawks' recent run is over. Alexander as a mentor?Maybe the Hawks are thinking the following: They realize the big 3 will not be there when they pick in the 1st but they think they can grab Slaton or Rice in the 2nd or 3rd. Both are very comparable to Warrick Dunn so they team Rice/Slaton with Duckett for the upcoming years. SA stays on this year to mentor the rookie and make one last run while Morris gets cut. That would leave the RB roster spots as SA, Duckett, Rookie, Weaver. Pearman is a UFA and will not be resigned and Kirtman has had 2 years to impress and has faltered.
With the Dunn comment, I'm not saying we should become the old Atl Falcons but with Mora coming in it sure seems like a lot of their moves/ideas are leaning that way.
It's either him or Morris. And everything Ruskell & Holmgren have been sticking to is that the OL has been the problem. I do realize that is probably just to protect him until they cut him after the draft but Watters stayed on until Shaun was ready and I don't see the Hawks keeping Morris if they do draft his clone in Slaton/Rice.Alexander as a mentor?Maybe the Hawks are thinking the following: They realize the big 3 will not be there when they pick in the 1st but they think they can grab Slaton or Rice in the 2nd or 3rd. I don't think the Seahawks will want a guy who quit once he got paid to stick around and teach the rookie the tricks of the trade. It's either him or Morris. Would you keep a faded primmadonna at a high price or a cheaper version who is at least as effective if not more than the dilapidated star? I know they've been saying it's the line but this is the first move that actually "admits" that SA is missing something huge in his game and I tend to doubt he'll be in a Seahawks' jersey this year with this move. I don't see SA as a mentor, personnality wise nor does he have much to mentor the kid about. Morris is a better blocker/blitz picker upper and would have more to teach a youngster than SA. It'll be interesting to see but this is at least as telling about the RB situation than if they traded up and drafted Stewart or Mendenhal, maybe even more so.It's either him or Morris. Julius Jones is visiting the Seahawks Thursday.Looks like their interest is serious. Jones has met with Tennessee and Detroit so far and it's uncertain if he's been offered a contract. If Jones signs, Shaun Alexander seems nearly certain to be released.

We could then draft TE Davis in the first round or the best player available.
This TE class is deep. No point using a high pick when you could get another player (read O-line), and use a 2nd or 3rd pick on a very good TE.Julius Jones is visiting the Seahawks Thursday.Looks like their interest is serious. Instead of bumping the whole thread I decided to post this conversation.nygaints56 gets itI don't think he knew what he was talking about, just like his age. SA has been the highest scoring back in the league and had one injury shortened season. Lets let him pla real football games first before we stick a fork in him or start comparing him to others. I'm going with 1400+ and 15-17 TDs. His last legs will come but not for a few years.I think he means last legs as in 'Eddie George last legs', i.e., slower, looks like he's running in mud..George fell to pieces his last few seasons. Faulk burned out , too..Ricky Watters broke down...Rodney Hampton fell apart , and injuries took their toll...Emmitt Smith looked terrible in Az..thats what I think he meant, that SA *could* be like one of the above...He turns 30 in 5 days. What else does last legs mean? Marshall Faulk and Curtis Martin were on their last legs.He is 31 ....... I didn't mean his career is over....It would benifit Alexander to have another RB there next year to help w/ the carries. You're nuts. His last legs? He reported to camp in better condition than in any other camp. He might have started the backside of his career but his last legs won't come for a few more years. As a Seahawk fan I must say I really like the defense this year....its actually the offense which worries me. The hawks don't have a TRUE #1 WR. Maybe Hackett can develop into that guyAlexander is on his last legs IMO....I hope the Hawks get some offense in the draft next year.
And Weaver is supposed to help in spelling SA as well.
I'm sure that RB will be addressed next year as a natural progression but that doesn't have any bearing on this year.
You don't need a true #1 WR. The Pats have never had one, we didn't when Koren was producing. The WCO spreads the ball around.I guess you haven't heard the term before....Im sorry. So I was a year off with his age.....that makes my crap?
10games 252carries 896yards 3.6avg 7 TD's SA's stats from last year. I live in Seattle and watched every seahawk game and he did not look impressive to me.
65 carries 187 yards rushing 2 TD's his numbers pre injury ..... not impressive
I would really question your 1400+ and 15-17TDs.....I would take the under on that for sure.![]()
