Frank Gore... (1 Viewer)

I am still trying evaluate my opinion of Mr. Gore over the long haul...

Does Martz Help or Hurt?

Will Frank get back to his top RB form from 2 years back?

~your thoughts?

Frank Gore scares me. I just don't like his injury history for him to last over the long haul.

Gore will be helped by Martz's presance. Everyone is so focused on Martz as a Pass first guy that I think they might miss out on the positive impact he will almost certainly have on Gore. Remember, Gore was the leading receiver for the niners 2 seasons ago. He is a great receiver out of the backfield. The addition of a guy like Ike Bruce will also help Gore. Bruce knows Martz's system and is about as consistent as they come. He may not be the explosive, down field threat but he is capable of moving the sticks and forcing defenders to respect the pass (somewhat). It would be naive to think the 49ers will throw more than 35 times a game. I think we'll see them continue to use the run to set up play action. Gore will be the focal point of the offensive. If Gore stays healthy he is easily a top 10 back.

Good chance there's gonna be some happy Gore owners out there. Heard an interview on Sirius NFL Radio the other day with Niners GM Scot McCloughan, and he was asked how Martz would use Gore. "We'd like to get the ball in his hands a lot. Figure something like 18-20 rushes per game, with another 6-8 catches. Mike told me he wants Frank to be his Marshall Faulk, and he can be that."

Gore is going to have to improve a ton in the passing game to be anywhere near as effective as Faulk, but still.... :goodposting:

From what i've seen from this site and everyone else he is still (along with LJ) considered a first round pick. He didnt have a very good year but ALOT of RB's did the same. I think he should rebound.

Frank Gore has started 31 out of a possible 32 games the past two years, while averaging more than 22 touches/game.Re: Gore in a dynasty league, what's not to like? Talent? Check -- virtually everything you'd want in a RB except home run speed. Durability/Workload? Check -- see above. Age? Check -- he turns 25 this coming May. Intangibles? Check -- team leader, wins awards off field.Gore is a young, proven 2000 yard RB, who has been outstanding to good, fantasy-wise, on generally bad 49er teams. Imagine what will happen if the 49ers have a good year or two in the next 4 - 5?Top - 5 dynasty RB...

He's a stud, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think he's an injury-risk. I think it's one worth taking, especially in PPR, but not top 5.

Kevin Jones?
My memory may be short - but I seem to remember S-Jax not doing so well in Martz' system either.
1400 total yards and 10 TDs isn't bad, especially with Faulk still there stealing 600 yards.
This doesn't really tell the whole story though... Jackson's 2004 year under Martz was as a backup behind Faulk, starting just 3 games when Faulk was hurt ( 2 great games, 1 at 10/29 ). Certainly not enough information to make a judgement. In 2005, Jackson played 5 games before Martz had his heart problems. During those 5 games he put up a monster 235 yds on 76 carries, averaging 15 carries at 3.0 ypc, well under his career averages ( including clunkers of 12/48 and 10/17 ). It wasn't until after Martz was gone that Jackson started proving himself as an uber-stud.The other consideration is that the 04-05 Rams weren't typically behind in the game as often as the 07 Lions were or 08 Niners are likely to be. Games when Detroit was competitive, KJ was a great fantasy player ... it was when they fell behind he lost carries and became useless. The problem is that Gore is likely to see these reduced rushing carries in SF. The good news is that he's a decent receiver. :bye:For me personally, he's at the end of the top tier guys by default. His upside forces him up there, but I can't say I wouldn't be scared if I owned him. Top 5 is too high for me, but not by a whole lot.

This was an amazing fact for me, as I absolutely thought that he missed significant time due to injury. Not sure what's worse, though ... him having missed due to injury, or him having missed the stat tickers for the majority of the year because he wasn't doing a damn thing. :excited:
