As a current resident of Columbus, and a lifelong resident of Ohio, I would like to say that the aforementioned analyst is 100% correct. Big Ten basketball is painful to watch. Has been for 20 years. They've done well in the tourney over the last 8 years or so though...go figure.

Of course there is more athleticism in the NBA as they are the best in the world but night in and night out I watch the Bucks, and maybe this is just a Buck's thing, and I see a lack of defense and a lack of cohesiveness that I see in Big 10 basketball. There are some great teams that play defense in the NBA (Spurs, Detroit, Boston this year, etc.) but I feel as though they are in the minority and the offense is stressed more than the defense. Heck, I am watching the Marquette game and all they are doing in running up and down the court driving without that extra pass.

The NBA obviously has much better players, but I would say that the lack of coaching/practice, intensity, and rules at that level does not make it miles ahead of the NCAA.

I don't watch a whole lot of Big 10 basketball, as I'm much more of an ACC basketball fan, but I went to the Michigan-Purdue game the other day and it truly was painful to watch.
Not surprisingly, Michigan was pretty awful, turning the ball over repeatedly and taking awful shots on wasted possessions, but I at least expected to see something out of Purdue, a team that went 15-3 in the Big Ten. However, Purdue was almost equally unimpressive and I left wondering how it was possible that Purdue could be ranked as a top 20 basketball team in the nation.
If Purdue really is one of the elite teams in the Big Ten, I would not be surprised to see the Big Ten significantly underperform in the tournament this year.
