I like the exercise, and these will give me something to do during the day, but with the volatility of the ordering in the top 3 and again in the 4-8 spots, aren't we just going to end up doing another set of these starting April 27?

I'd have to see where they end up going first.
My guess is that he's looking to get one set of rankings JUST before the draft and one after.... to see just how the situation impacts value perception.

Thanks for posting this poll. This should give us a point of comparison once the draft is over. I always like to see people's opinions prior to the draft, before they are convoluted with other variables (where they landed, situation, etc).

You are both right. On one hand, it is something to do to kill time for the next 11 days. It could also give us some information about the value of each player based on talent alone. I know I have been burned in the past by placing too much importance on situation a player was drafted into.

I doubt my RB rankings will change much after the NFL draft. I've wasted far too many draft picks in the past on guys that fall into "great" situations at the expense of leaving players I thought were more talented - but in seemingly worse situations - on the board. I'm only in large dynasty leagues (like Zealots), so many times you have roster space to wait on talent to rise to the top.Anyway, I have 4 RBs ranked very close together at the top and don't see a clear-cut #1. Gun to my head, I'd probably take Stewart #1 as I think he's the most talented. But I've just recently gotten into evaluating these guys and my rankings could change as we get closer to the NFL draft.

I'd take Mendenhall over the others in a heartbeat. Then Stewart, then McFadden.
I also wonder how many people voting in this poll have seen all 3 play live.

Ive seen all three play live. Ive probably seen Stewart the most, than McFadden. Stewart just never dominated in the Pac10 till his last year there, I think he's a great back but Im concerned about his consistency and injuries. Mendenhall I'm not in love with either, at this point I'm leaning towards McFadden, I think a lot of people are over thinking this, he's got excellent vision and has world class speed, and dominated in the toughest conference in college football.
I think it will depend on where each back ends up after the draft. But assuming McFadden goes to Oakland and Mendenhall goes to Detroit I would give a slight edge to Mendenhall. But I think this will be a very interesting debate.
McFadden definitely has the speed edge but he is smaller than Mendenhall and I haven't seen the power from him I expect an NFL back to have. What I have seen is that he has the speed to cause college LBs and DBs to take really bad angles. If that translates to the NFL then he will be very good. But I don't think it will. I also think he is hurt by the offense he was in.
Mendenhall, on the other hand, is (in my opinion only) more suited to the NFL. He doesn't have McFadden's speed but he does have good speed. And he is a much more powerful runner. Both are good receivers though McFadden will cause more matchup problems (ala Reggie Bush).
I don't think Stewart is really in the same class as the other two.

The post draft comparison will be interesting but I would think that would also be true if continued to the next tier of players (Rice, Charles, Jones, Johnson and maybe some of the others that are or may potentially move up based on location)
