2008 DTV Sunday ticket and superfan deals (1 Viewer)

June or July is when DTV starts to auto renew your ST and SF. The last thing I saw it was going to be $269 this year for the ST and SF. DTV will usually give deals closer to the season.

deal I got last year

ST- $229

superfan- $99

free HD channel package for a year- $10 a month, $120 off for year

$20 off my monthly package for 6 month- $120 off for year

i only paid $88 for the ST and superfan in 07

post any deal DTV gives you for the ST and SF

I'll be curious to see how this goes. With recent calls to DTV, it seems more and more that they're getting out of the wheeling and dealing business.

i agree. I think they will get to a point where the price is what it is take it or leave it

I got all the free movies and free total premeir package for signing up as a new subscriber with the NFL ticket last year for six months. (dumped comcast)

Pretty much payed for the ticket itself.

I'll be happy for the 269 renewal deal this year. Hope it's true.

I am sure they will continue to recruit new customers useing the ticket as a promotor just as they did me last year.

I am one happy customer! For lots of reasons! There is nothing out there even close to direct to compare. Warner, Comcast, Dish all take a deep back seat.

I would love to see this but not sure why they would drop the price from last year ($229 ST + $99 SF = $328) unless they lost subscribers. I would be willing to pay what I did last year's full price again. Maybe its a renewal only deal?I look at it this way...if I still lived in Buffalo, I would have season tix and this is a heck of a lot cheaper to see all the games.

i had to call 3 of the first 5 weeks & complain, due to screwups on their end. they then gave me a 33% credit.

I got ST and SF for less than a 100 bucks by threatening to cancel. Come august I will call in a bunch of times with the wife is pissed excuse and wants to cancel until they give me a better deal.

just called DTV and asked what the cost was this year$269 for the ST and SF
if that includes the SF that price really isnt to bad, I don't think it does though....

DTV is doing really well, and investors have been begging them to lever up the balance sheet. They really don't need to wheel and deal much these days. Sucks for us as consumers, but makes sense from their perspective.

Must be nice. My wife called and threaten to cancel last year and they basically said "We are not offering any discounts anymore on the ticket", so we cancelled. I thought I would miss it more, but with more and more games going national I did not miss it too much. I would like to get it back, but nearly $300 is too much for me.

After our dealings with them in the last year, I believe this to be true.
I just got a free hd dvr and 12 months of hd programming for free back in march. It took three calls in but I got it eventually..... :sarcasm: I am holding out hope I at least get 10 bucks off for 6 months on the ST, if not I have gotten it for pretty much nothing for 3 years now so I cant complain....

E-mail I recently received from DTV says that I can order Sunday Ticket for 5 payments of $53.80 (total of $269), which is supposed to be a $20 discount for ordering early. I think it said this price was good until 7/31. E-mail didn't mention anything about inclusion of Superfan.

Last year they gave me a $60 credit ($10/ month for 6 months) because I complained about the fact that I was paying all of this money and the only NFL games I could get in HD without Superfan were on ESPN. I could not get local channels in HD through DTV at the time. I think I'm going to try the HD angle again this year and push the fact that I'm already paying them for HD access and I shouldn't have to subscribe to Superfan to get games in HD. They really are holding anyone that has an HDTV hostage as no one in their right mind could tolerate Sunday Ticket in standard definition. I do love the Red Zone Channel, but I could do without it. HD is not optional in my opinion.

I am a subscriber, having one HD DVR and one regular DVR, I did not subscribe to the Ticket last year..

I want to upgrade the standard DVR to HD DVR, and Get the ticket, with SF add on..

my "plan" is to go in holding the cards.. prolly end like this

"I would like to subscribe to the NFL Ticket, with the SUPER FAN upgrade. would you be show gracious as to replace my STD DVR with an HD for free?"

when they say "no" i'll ask for a supervisor, or for customer service 'expert', i find channeling a little "Fletch" never hurts...

" I am willing to lay out lay out nearly 400 bones, for the packages, but would hope DTV could reach out, and help with the hardware upgrade"

"NO"

"how's about i add an HBO subscription too?, you'll see I didn't get the NFL package last year (first year EVER i didn't), so I wouldn't see why you guys wouldn't want to get SOME money.. 400 is better than zero? right?

"NO"

"okay, thank you, I 'll look to arrangements on terminating my account"

"okay goodbye" or "alright well help" (not likely)

then I call back the last week of July, and try again.. but break if i must... hate detroit football

I received an email from them as well. $269 for the ticket, does NOT include super fan. I'll need to do some work to get that for free like last year. I would settle for just the red zone channel though. Is that part of the super fan or just part of the ticket?

I just got this e-mail last night too. Does not include the superfan I don't think?

I called yesterday and the operator said the $269 included the SF, she could be wrong.

You hit that one on the head Chachi...... We just had a discussion again today about it and she said "It is going up in price again? (we used to pay $169 once upon a time) We will never get it again".........She did say if there was a must see game I wanted to see I could just go to the bar and see it!!!!

i remember paying $99

Just another tip: email!

When they did this thing with the new HD boxes, I wanted to go from just a regular box to HD-DVR and they weren't budging after 3 phone calls about lowering the price from $299. One email to their department about the inconsistency of their phone responses, how long I've been a customer, spending over $1000 a year (get the hockey package too), and about how good of a deal DishNetwork had going (obviously this wouldn't apply here), and I got the HD DVR for the $19 shipping & handling charge and free HD for a year.

So don't forget that possible avenue too.

over the past 2 years I have got 4 free HD DVRs

I've had The Ticket for several years but this year they priced me out. I called and cancelled last week. Got an e-mail the next day saying someone would contact me about my recent "decision". I love The NFL and The Ticket is great for fantasy players but to me it's not worth what they're charging this year.

wife= that direct ticket is too expensive

me= at this point in my life, i dont play golf anymore, i dont go fishing anymore, i dont get to play in the country club poker games anymore, i dont get to go to nightclubs anymore, i havent been to a strip club since we got married, i dont smoke pot anymore, i sold my camphouse, i dont go hunting anymore

wife= ill order tommorrow

me = thanks babe, i knew you would see it my way

How many trips will you have to take to the bar until you are over the cost of the ticket. Plus you have to put up with the idiots at said bar.

I called Directv today, I just bought a house and became a directv subscriber again. Well my free Starz/Showtime is about to run out and looking into making sure I don't get charged for it after the 3 months runs out. I told them I has interested in upgrading my 2nd HD receiver to an HD DVR, looking at the Sunday Ticket, and possibly adding HBO. Found out the following:

If you don't currently have HD extra(HD Net, HD Net Movies, Universal HD, MGM HD, and 2 other stations) they will add it a no charge for 3 months.
HBO/Cinemax can be had for the HBO price of $14 a month for 3 months, but you have to call in. Standing offer, threaten to cancel HBO and they can give it to you.
HD DVR can usually be given at half price($99), i needed to wait at least 6 months to avoid fee and would have to pay full price until 6 months ended. Now the Sunday Ticket and Superfan. The price is $269 + $99 for Superfan. That price is currently not negotiable, and the "Resolution" rep stated that they will re-evaluate and determine whether or not to offer discounts or promotional offers at that time. What is the time, I asked? Late June, Early July. He said they look at the amount of subscriptions and then work to meet their estimates/goals/quotas, makes sense. So wait, threaten to leave, or head to the bar.

hope this helps.

Jeez, how are you guys getting all of this free stuff from DTV. I've been with them three years and haven't got jack for free. Do you just threaten to cancel? Something like "Yes sir, I called to cancel my services."

A DTV rep told me that if you're an A-list customer(pay your bill on time, order a few extra's,etc) they have the "empowerment" to give you a "deal" every six months. For example,in the past I've gotten an HDDVR for free,HBO free for a year,a $10 a month credit on my bill, among other things. Call, ask them if there's any current offers for A-list customer's. Assuming you are one.lol.

In my experience with DirecTV, you should speak briefly to the customer service people. Explain that your wife got the bill and thinks the ENTIRE SERVICE is way too expensive and that she wants you to cancel and get cable back. Then politely ask to speak to the "RETENTION" department. Say the same thing to them and tell them you still have "some" interest in the Sunday Ticket but that the $269 plus $99 is exhorbitant and she will not let you pay $25 a week to watch football. Then ask as to what they can do for your overall DirectTV package including asking for a discount on the Sunday Ticket. They will most certainly be able to work out some sort of a deal. I would suggest waiting until they start billing in June/July and then start calling. Call back again if you do not get a favorable result and GOOD LUCK!!!

Just called. I'm moving soon and told them that one of the reasons I signed up for DTV was to get the NFL ST and that with the price going up every year, I may just consider not transferring my service and going elsewhere. Got sent to Retentions and was offered the following (nothing great, but it helps):

$10 off/month x 12 months = $120

Free HD package ($10) x 6 months = $60

Sunday ticket locked in at last year's price with auto-renew = $249

Free Super Fan included

Will call again in a month or so and see about getting the HD DVR upgrade.

Honestly, I do not anticipate going to the bar much. The only out of market teams I would really like to see are the Vikings and Rams. Most of the televised games are good enough for me...........

I am pretty big into archery so the makeup argument leads to the archery argument......... Such is life...........

Fellas, the price of this will be whatever the majority of people are willing to pay for it. It's obvious that the price last year was too high, and so they are dropping it and trying to figure it out.

As someone said earlier, it used to be $100. That seems about right. I bet if absolutely everyone on this board who planned to get it called in from now until late July, saying that it's simply too pricey, but they would sign on in a second if it was $100 for the base package, I bet by next season we would see a price of about 129.99. But it would take complete committment and at least a quarter of their marketshare for Sunday Ticket from last season. Probably would never happen, but even if everyone on this board that is planning on getting it called and all said $100, I think they would get the message that their price is simply too steep, especially in today's economy.

How do the HD pictures compare to Comcast?? Long time Comcast customer here who would love ST but worried about picture quality.I have a 52 inch plasma and the HD channels are incredible with Comcast.

When I switched to DTV I remember Comcast being superior at the time, but I think that varies based on region. DTV has significantly more HD channels which is more important for me. I don't watch anything in SD.I've had DTV for three years and Sunday Ticket each of those years, but with the NFL Network now showing some games and the additional flexibility in networks being able to choose better games I might not go for it this year. For 25 bucks a week I can catch the games I want at a local sports bar and pay for meals/drinks.

:kicksrock: The price went UP $20 from $249 to $269. That does NOT include the $99 SF price.

When you add in bar food and beer each week, it's actually cheaper to get the ticket. At least, that's what I'd tell her. Plus, you don't have to drive home intoxicated. Luckily, I don't have this problem. My wife loves football as much as I do so I have a 4 TV setup in my game room.

Cancelled Sunday Ticket, though it sucked to do so. :scared:

Texans season ticket holder, so 8 weeks out of 17 I'm at the game instead of at home, and even the afternoon games are half over or worse before I make it back home. Throw in another 2-3 weeks in the summer when I'm out of town and it just wasn't worth it to pay what they want for a half-season's worth of viewing. Told them they need to go back to letting you buy it week-by-week, but I'm not holding my breath until it happens.

At least with NFLN rebroadcasting games I should be able to see all the games I'm interested in, if late. Maybe not choosing games to watch based on my fantasy players will help me enjoy watching football more like I did before getting into FF. (No, I don't really believe that, but hey it sounded good.)

If you live close enough to have season tix, shouldnt you get to watch all the away games on regular TV anyway?
