Simply Amazing!!!!!!!!!

The Fresno State Bulldogs were ranking #89 coming into the NCAA tournament. They lost the first game 7-6 to Georgia, and then win the next 2 games 18-10 and 6-1 to win the NCAA Championship.

They wouldn't have made the tournament if they didn't win their conference tournament.

At least NCAA baseball is no beauty pageant. The Fresno State Bulldogs won it on the field. Teams has opportunities to beat them, but a lot of teams were unable to do so.

The Fresno State Bulldogs faced elimination six times against teams ranked #11 in the nation or higher, and won each time.

Opinions don't matter, only the game. NCAA football should take note.

Ridiculous that this has been moved to the baseball forum. It's more about a National Championship and how unlikely the story.Give FSU their day, it's a great story.
That is why I started it in the FFA. I started it to congratulate Fresno State and its fans, but also to provide a juxtaposition for how the mythical NCAA football champion is determined. This is determined on the field where all teams have their destiny in their hands. This is not a sport where you have a shot at a NC that is determined similarly to a beauty pageant where it is all about image. That describes college football.

Had they gone 3-1 in the Wac tourney they wouldn't have even gotten a regional invite. It's more akin to a 16 seed in the basketball tourney made it. Not at all the same as football.

I think it is. To me, and I have posted this many times, the only (starting) legitimate NC format in college football would be an 11+5, where the 11 is the conference champions and 5 at-large. 32 teams would stretch it to 5 weeks, which is pushing it. Fresno State won their tournament, which is how their conference determines their conference bid. Other conferences may do it differently. So, Fresno State was the official entrant for their conference, and any other teams from that conference(WAC), and I am not sure there were any, were at-large bids. So, Fresno State won their title on the field. Not like the beauty pageant that is college football where people say 'there is no way school X could beat school Y so they shouldn't be included'.

This is a special case and the rigors and physical nature of the sport must be taken into account. Once in 100 years maybe the best team is not found in basketball by virtue of a tourney ommission and this would be much more likely to happen to a big school than a little one. Football, perhaps every 3-4 years. This needs to change, but putting these kids at risk of a major injury is 10-15x higher if not much more in football. You can't just hold up this instance as proof of a + five as you would have. People need to not be so selfish about amateur sports validating their existence. Start paying them cash, then we'll talk.
