2008 IDP Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The IDP Forum here has grown quickly over the past few years and is probably the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things related to IDPs. In what we hope to make an annual tradition, the IDP Spotlight series will be a key part of our preseason effort this year. As many of you know from what has been done with offensive players over the years, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we hope to publish IDP Spotlights for approximately 50-60 players, which should account for most of the key IDP starters for this year and possibly years to come.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week (or possibly longer) of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways.

1) At the end of the week (or longer when necessary), we will tally the projections into a consensus.

2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Troy Polamalu, S, Pittsburgh Steelers

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, we request that you provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For DLs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, PD
For LBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PD
For DBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PDNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Polamalu had a disappointing season last year. It marked the second straight year of decline for him and the second straight year of missing time due to injuries.

That said, he is still a joy to watch on the field and can make plays.

The main question is then, have his skills declined already at just 27 and going into his 6th season, or is he still a playmaker that just had a couple of down years?

I think he rebounds this season to crack the top 20 once again. Not top 10 form like in '04 & '05, but better than recent years.

62 solo, 20 asst, 1 sack, 2 FF, 2 FR, 1 Int.

Solid DB2 year from a guy who is just plain fun to watch on Sundays running around with that crazy black mane flowing behind him.

Great talent that can't stay healthy. His recurring knee issues are a big red flag and the fact that he doesn't seem to be fully recovered from his knee injury last year does not bode well for his prospects this year.

55 solo

15 asst

1 sack

1 FF

1 FR

1 INT

10 PD

Troy is a caution laden player. Too many things working against him top be among the IDP elite producing backs.

He is certainly capable, but his injury is too darn questionable. I expect to him show up on the injury report half the games he plays in. When he does play, the defense is good enough to relegate him into a cerebral center field position for the betterment of the team and the detriment of fantasy squads.

Games: 12

Tackles: 50

Assists: 18

Sack: 2

Interceptions: 4

Pass D's 11

When 100% healthy, he has shown to be one of the best DBs in the game, but he just cannot stay healthy. I am still a big fan, but have learned the hard way to put him in the fantasy roster with extreme caution.

Tackles: 65

Assists: 22

Sacks: 3

Interceptions: 7

PD: 15
