The Ultimate IDP Survivor Contest

Want to prove your IDP chops? Want to see how you stack up against your FBG IDP Forum colleagues, the most informed and active community in the industry? Want a chance to kick a little FBG IDP staff tail? Just in it for the glory and prizes?

Here’s your chance.

David Dodds included a couple of IDP leagues in the first leg of the “other” Survivor contest, but we’ve convinced him that IDP leagues are not just another niche in the market. We are the real diehards of fake football. So we’ve got our own contest, our own prizes, and, we believe, the real bragging rights as the Ultimate Survivor.

I’ll post the full rule set in the post to follow, but here are the highlights:

28 of our brightest message board posters will be invited to face-off against our eight primary FBG IDP staff contributors. That group will be divided into three 12 team expanded IDP leagues with 2-3 staff and 9-10 message boarders in each league. Over the first eight weeks of the NFL season, eight teams in each league will be voted off in survivor style. The surviving four teams from each of those leagues will redraft an expanded IDP only roster and compete over the next eight weeks of the NFL season. Only one will survive to be crowned the Ultimate IDP Survivor.

In addition to the bragging rights of making it to the final league, David has graciously offered the following prizes:

1st prize: Lifetime subscription, FBG Hoodie, FBG hat + FBG duffle bag + $250 cash

2nd prize: 3 year subscription, FBG Hoodie + $125 cash

3rd prize: 3 year subscription, FBG T-shirt + $75 cash

4th prize: 3 year subscription + FBG T-shirt + $50 cash

5th - 8th prizes: 1 year subscription and choice of FBG shirt or hat

If you’re interested, here’s what we need:

**A post in this thread self-nominating yourself.

**A commitment that you’ll make a dedicated effort to draft promptly should you be selected for one of the three Leg 1 leagues and be reasonably certain that you’ll be available for the Leg 2 draft between Weeks 8 and 9 of the NFL season.

(Please note: This post may be a work in progress. Depending on the level of interest, the number of message board teams may change, which will alter the mechanics of the league(s). See the end of this post for all clarifications.)

36 contestants (8 staff IDP contributors//28 message boarders)*

Leg 1

**Three 12 team leagues drafting individual offensive and defensive players

League 1 (2-3 staff/9-10 boarders) – Tackle Heavy IDP

League 2 (2-3 staff/9-10 boarders) – Big Play Heavy IDP

League 3 (2-3 staff/9-10 boarders) – Balanced IDP

**Offensive scoring will include PPR. Defensive scoring will be league dependent as above. Scoring systems are listed below. All offensive lineups will be QB/2RB/3WR/TE/PK with a single RB/WR/TE flex to total nine offensive starters. All defensive lineups will be 2DE/DT/3LB/2CB/2S with a single DE/LB/DB flex to total 11 defensive starters. All owners will draft 38 players during a slow MFL draft to begin Monday, July 21. Initial draft order will be generated randomly. There will be no positional restrictions during the draft.

**Owners will not submit lineups. The best available lineup will be scored from your entire roster of players.

**The lowest scoring teams will be voted off, in survivor style, as follows. One team after Week 1, one team after Week 2, then two teams each after Weeks 4, 6 and 8 based on cumulative two week scoring in those weeks. The four surviving teams after Week 8 from each league (12 total) will move on to Leg 2.

Leg 2

**A single 12 team league drafting individual defensive players only consisting of the four surviving teams from each of the three original Leg 1 leagues. Draft slots will be awarded according to performance in the three Leg 1 leagues. The top scoring team in each Leg 1 league will draft in slots 1-3, with the exact order to be determined randomly. Random draws will take place for each "bucket" of the next highest scoring team from each league.

**Defensive scoring will be balanced IDP scoring. Scoring system will be sent to all potential league participants well in advance. All defensive lineups will be 2DE/DT/3LB/2CB/2S with a single DE/LB/DB flex to total 11 defensive starters. All owners will draft 24 players (no positional restrictions) by slow MFL draft to begin on Tuesday morning following Week 8 of the NFL season. Should the draft not be complete by Saturday noon ET of that week, all owners will be expected to be available to finish the draft in a live draft room (TBD) at noon ET Saturday.

**Should a Leg 2 owner be unable to draft and need to be replaced, a random dice roll among the highest remaining scorer in each of the three Leg 1 leagues will determine the first replacement owner. Potential replacement owners will be notified in advance.

**Owners will not submit lineups. The best available lineup will be scored from your entire roster of players.

**The lowest scoring teams will be voted off, in survivor style, as follows. Two teams will be voted off after Week 10 based on cumulative two week scoring in that period. Two teams will be voted off after Weeks 11, 12 and 13. The surviving four teams will then accumulate points between Weeks 14 and 16 and the team with the highest cumulative point total will be crowned the Ultimate IDP Survivor.

Message board contestants will be eligible for the contest after self-nominating themselves in a thread in the IDP Forum and will be chosen for inclusion by the IDP staff.

Scoring systems:

Defense: Leg 1 (Tackle heavy) Leg 2 (Big play heavy) Leg 3 (Balanced) Solo 2 1.5 1.5 Assist 1 0.75 0.75 Sack 4 8 5 PD 1 1.5 1.5 INT 4 8 5 FF 2 5 4 FR 2 5 4 TD 6 10 6Offense:TD 6 (all pass, rush, receiving, return)

Rush/Rec Yd 0.1 per yard

Pass Yd 0.05 per yard

Reception 1 (RB/WR/TE)

INT -1

XP 1

*Message board contestants may not have a team in both contests. If you win a slot in the other contest, you will be ineligible for this contest. Message boarders may enter BOTH contests. Should there be more than 28 message board self-nominations, the contest may be expanded to four Leg 1 leagues and 40 message board teams. Should there be more than 40 self-nominations, the FBG IDP staff will fill out the leagues with a slight preference for our more active and dedicated posters over the past couple of seasons.

***Leg 1 has been expanded to four leagues. To get down to 12 teams for Leg 2, an additional team will be eliminated during Week 2.

***There's been some confusion over the two week eliminations. Your best lineup from each week will be added together separately, not the highest scoring lineup for both weeks combined.

I'm interested in playing. I don't post very often on the boards, but I've been lurking for years and read the IDP forum on a daily basis. I can guarantee commitment, as well as being available for a possible week 8-9 draft.

 
weird that you redraft midseason

so what is the draft format for each draft?

the 2nd one has to be live since you only have a week to get it done right?

 
can we enter the IDP and non-IDP, in case we don't win an entry to one or the other? Then if we happen to get into both, we could drop out of one? :shrug:

The idea behind the Ultimate Survivor is that you have to "survive" multiple drafting situations with tough competition to eliminate as much luck as possible. The other contest has three legs -- but it's way too ambitious to try to get through two 22+ round drafts inseason given the extra lineup slots needed for the expanded IDP legs. The highest scoring teams in the Leg 1 leagues will be rewarded with better draft slots in Leg 2.Both drafts are going to be slow drafts on MFL. Leg 1 leagues will slot the draft picks randomly. The second draft will begin after the MNF game ends and go through Saturday at noon ET. Any rounds not complete at that time will finish in a live draft room on the MFL draft site to get the leagues loaded by gametime Sunday afternoon.

Definitely a limiting factor, we agree. Just as difficult to find time to schedule an 18-22 round draft on a weeknight within the season -- which would be all but impossible for the staff given our writing deadlines. We've got a replacement plan in place should the prospective Leg 2 owners have a now unforeseen issue with the week long Leg 2 draft.
 
Will there be any return yardage/TD scoring? I am thinking about the Devin Hesters of the league. A guy who holds little value as a WR, but reasonable value if his return yds are applicable. Makes for great sleeper DBs.

 
I don't post much on here, I've asked for advice once or twice.

That'd be cool though, so I'd be interested. I'm going to be able to show up for the draft in week 8.

Been doing IDP for umpteen years. And I only work when I want (which isn't much nowadays) so I can plan my work around draft times.

I'd be interested in this. Drafted in the SSL IDP league the past couple years, though it looks like it didn't happen this year.

 
Would absolutely love to enter this contest as it sounds very interesting to me.

Have been playing in several German IDP leagues (dynasty and redraft) and in an IDP only league for 3-5 years now. So I definitely know the basics. :thumbup:

I am an original member of one of the premier IDP Dynasty Leagues...... Dynasty Wars. Many leagues (including Zealots) have used the Dynasty Wars rule book as a template to create other premier IDP leagues.

I won't pat myself on the back and say I am one of the greatest IDP players and you should select me for this reason only....No, I'll tell you that I will be committed regardless of how good or bad a team I have. I will strive hard to be competitive and if all works out, I will be crowned champion!!

My schedule is clear unless I die.

My credentials are far from impeccable, but it was my incessant whining that, in part, led to the IDP subforum and made this a better place. For that alone I expect entry into the fray. I confess I am hesitant to participate in both contests though. Meh, what are the real chances of lasting to the end in both? I AM IN here before there though. I hate breaking my "IDP only" rule.

Hey.. my name is Amit, im from Israel and i would Love to join the survivor IDP Contest

a DH fan of idp style in general and "found" this pearl idp forum a year ago & ill be commited,active and compatative as much as i can .

not much of a poster here but read A-lot , hearing the podcasts and using this forum during my DH idp leagues .

my favourite setting that most similar to ur contest is:

I am so excited! I didn't join the other because they scrapped the IDP leagues. So pretty much i would love the chance to test my skills against the real gurus. I've played IDP for multiple years with a decent success rate and feel I am ready to take the next step. I would love an invite and eagerly await your response!

Then I will certainly nominate myself here. The non-IDP drafts are too ridiculously late at night for an East Coaster who gets up ~5:45am most days.I've only started playing IDP in the last year, but I love trying to understand the complexity of the defensive schemes.
 
i would like to participate with the big dawgs, i nominate myself. i'm available for the most part, no computers at work. i have a few things planned in August, but I can set preselects once a day easily. shouldn't be a problem. Definitely available for leg 2

 
I'd like to participate. I was in a survivor with some of the staff last season but had injury issues that were my undoing. It's been bugging me and I'd like another shot at it, this time with a different mix of roster spots at each position.

I've got a lot of survivor experience here at FBG, winning the MB/Staff competition about three years ago and doing well in the SSL leagues until a couple of years ago when I scaled back a bit.

My order of preference for the three leagues:

1. tackle-heavy

2. balanced

3. big play

I'd love to be a part of this contest if there is room. Been playing IDP keeper/dynasty leagues for 5-6 years. Keen follower of the footballguys forums but don't get the time to do a lot of posting. anyhoo, could love to be on board with this concept.

Putting in a nomination. I do not post a lot, but spend hours here weekly reading and gaining info. Always available for the drafts.

 
I don't post alot, but I do visit IDP Forum half a dozen times a day, read all of your material, and consider myself a IDP geek and would love the challenge of some real competition. I would be readilly available for the drafts, and would play the contest to my fullest abilities.

 
I'd be up for this. Big fan of IDP leagues. My favorite league is my IDP Dynasty league that is in its 6th year. I have played in many survivor style format leagues over the years against the staff Including the IDP Survivor leagues run by Rudnicki the last two years. So I have skills in this format to give it a shot.

 
Although I'm new to this forum in a posting sense, I've been reading you guys for years. I'm a long time member of Fanball and am in BOTH leagues at TheHuddle. (not sure of the OTHER site posting rules so forgive me if I've crossed a line). Been playing IDP for 5 years and FF as a whole for 11. I'm in the TV/Movie production business and have internet access at all times, even on set. EXTREMELY active and a smack talker to boot. I'd love to be considered. :bag:

I've seen a few newbies and long time Forum posters floating through this thread over the past two days that haven't self-nominated themselves yet. To feel comfortable that a poster has made a commitment to draft during both time frames, we're taking self-nominations only.We're almost to the 28 nominations we'd need to fill three Leg 1 leagues. Wouldn't be surprising at all at this point to see enough names (40+) by next Monday to warrant opening a fourth league at this point. :kicksrock:
 
Better put a Canadian nomination in

Only seem to play in IDP leagues and have had some good success. Most of my posts around here are in the Help forum as I like to give advice. Plus after watching the startup drafts taking place, I think my unique spin on things would be cool.

I am available for drafting and draft quickly and put me in with Chaos if it works! He's an old nemisis from Goidpankl. ;) I wouldn't mind having Obxlegends in the league either as we are competitors in a Z league together - Tick too!

I am in several leagues and ALL of them are IDP dynasty - so I have the experience!

I'm nominating myself for the contest. A long-time lurker but only a recent member. I've been competing in IDP leagues for 5 years running. I'm the commish of 1 IDP dynasty and am an owner in three others. I'll be competing in a high-scoring IDP-only re-draft league this season as well. Links can be provided to the staff, as references, upon request.

I've been playing IDP now for almost 10 years.

 
I would like to play in this contest, I'm in 4 IDP leagues and have played in them for the past 6 years. Playing anything but IDP is not interesting to me these days. I'm a pretty active member of the IDP forum here. Hope I get in!
