Texans camp battle (1 Viewer)

I've been keeping an eye on Dom Barber. He's football smart, has the genes and like his brother, he could out perform his draft position (6th round). Rick Smith and Coach Kubiak are doing a good job down there in Houston. I believe, in time, they will build a playoff team. Alex Gibbs was a great addition!

Interesting. I haven't hard much about him.

The strong and the free

Six safeties are vying for spots on the Texans' roster:

C.C. Brown

He’s entering a contract year, and that could mean his best season is ahead of him.

Will Demps

One of the smartest players on the team. He will wear the defensive transmitter when DeMeco Ryans is out of the game.

Nick Ferguson

A 10-year veteran who has a knack for making plays each week either on defense or special teams.

Brandon Harrison

Few players have made such improvement over the past year. Will play a lot this week in hopes of making the roster.

Glenn Earl

A former starter who finally is close to being back to the level he was at before he was injured in training camp a year ago.

Dominique Barber

He has good speed and athleticism and has proved to coaches that he can make plays when he gets opportunities.

Competition heats up in Texans secondary

:wolf: How are they gonna work that out?

A safety subbing for a LB
He will still play safety, he will just be in charge of making the defensive calls.
uh-huh I get that part. But its only 1 green dot at a time meaning they can't both be on the field with the headsets at the same timeIs Demps swapping helmets while Ryans is running off the field part?

Or will it be a rotation at safety where Demps comes in when Ryans comes off?

Ryans isn't coming out of the game.

This is going to be a common thing, and a bigger story as the season progresses I'd bet. Linebackers are going to knock the transmitter out, teams are going to find that the transmitter turns off before the play call is finished, etc.

Teams will have two players who have a transmitter helmet. Both players will have a helmet with a transmitter and one without. Should one transmitter fail, those players will probably come to the sideline and trade helmets, if they do anything about it at all.

Some teams, like Cleveland and Dallas, have a platoon. Others, like SF, are just going to have the safety wear the communicator. Most others are probably going to do something like this, where a safety gets used to a communicator if needed so that a backup linebacker doesn't come into the game fussing over both his assignment and the communicator.

Speaking of the secondary, does anyone think that CC Brown could be decent from an IDP point of view? I've been hearing that he's lining up in the box more. Something worth keeping an eye on?
