Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
The jokers in my local league always come lurking around here every August trying to steal all my secrets.

 YOU'LL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!

Meh.

If they're so hardcore to get that kind of information, let them. In the end, this is a hobby for me, and it's fun. Anything more extreme and it gets to be too much.

This year is the 20th anniversary of my local league. Still have most of the original owners.I'd give a kidney to any of these guys, but I'd run them off the road if it helped me win another title.

What are you saying you do? If you think a player will be great, you say it and make a case for him but do it under an alias so the other guys in your league won't see you hyping him? That's ok I guess. What is lame beyond belief is someone trying to give disinformation and lying about how they feel about a player. I know you wouldn't do that. Anyone that would needs to find a new board.J

Seems like your personal reputation would be too important to be anything other than honest about your beliefs about players, under your own user name. I don't get the whole secrecy thing. Be yourself, give your opinions, tell them to bring it, and beat them anyway.

That first part is awesome. That second part scares me -- mission accomplished I would guess!

No. If I'm wondering something about a certain player or team, I'd probably use my alias to post the question... but only in the month of August. I know for a FACT my leaguemates lurk here as guests to see what I've been posting in the month leading up to our draft day (8/31). They have admitted it in the past. So if there's something I really want the SP's view on, I'd more than likely post with my alias.
What is lame beyond belief is someone trying to give disinformation and lying about how they feel about a player. I know you wouldn't do that.
Positively not. I said as much above. No disinformation.I just basically lay low for the next few weeks. Any advantage helps.

I would never lie about how I felt about a player just because I knew other people from my league posted here. But of course, that's exactly what I'd say if I was lying about how I felt about players.

Ive wondered if they watch me when I post since I've left them links in their history browsers.

There are a few things that keep me honest:

I sometimes avoid threads of certain players, just in case.

I change my mind daily.

I'm often wrong.

Never admit that last one out loud. You'll lose your edge. It's best to giggle quietly immediately after everyone else makes a pick.

As far as an alias goes, I have one. Not really sure why I decided to finally acquire one. I've lurked around with it a couple times. Like 2 times. The time I signed up for it and one other time. I've yet to post anything while using it.

As far as info to other league mates goes? I have pimped this site to them for years now. I've successfully recruited 3 multi-year subscribers, 1 single year subscriber (who somehow failed to utilize and benefit from all FBG has to offer,) and 3 message board regulars. I like the competition. I want my fellow league mates to give me a challenge. So why not lead them to the best FF information warehouse there is?

And when it comes to my posts within the Forums, it does not matter to me if the guys in my league see or read what I post. I am an honest person and, when I post in here there is no orchestrated attempt to disillusion anyone.

This is actually one of Raider Nation's league-mates pretending to be him. He's trolling to find out if he uses aliases or lies in his posts. His league is the CPL and they've actually killed a few people, but that only usually happens during the bye weeks. The California Penal League is not for amateurs, and the reason that they've all been together 20 years is that was the shortest sentence completed by Joey "2 Toes" and he was a snitch!

I've been playing FF long enough to know that you can't fall in love with any particular player, thus I have no problem spouting off my opinions because, in the end, I don't need any one player. You pick one player I like, I'll pick the next guy on my list, no biggy.

When you dominate like FavreCo does, you need no alias.

1. I won't heap praises on other owners players - that's your job.

2. I will talk up my guys (even if they suck).

3. I will tell you how bad some bum sucks, especially if he was on my team previously (current target - Julius Jones).

Amen brother Joe. I'll take the bans when I step out of line, but Giving anything other than your truthful opinion is Just wrong. A couple of years ago I thought it was funny to post an Injury to a player that wasn't true as a prank. The Shark pool damn near hung me by my feet. I was lucky to be able to remain posting. I have only one alias that was an original account from several years ago. I dont post with it, I just use it to subscribe to FBG paid content. I will probably do away with that account and forum sign up and switch that over to Mdog.Anyway the point is I don't think its ethical to post with more than one forum name. Having sat thru a month ban, its stinks and all, but at least I sucked it up and came back when it was over. If I am not mistaken I believe I received that month long from you Joe. :)

:tumbleweed: If you call yourself a shark, why on earth do you need an alias? Sharks don't need aliases. ;) :shark:

I think sometimes we give ourselves too much credit. In the whole scheme of things we don't really matter that much. To think otherwise is very egotistical.

Joe,In the past, FBG has produced fake cheatsheet rankings (not sure if you are doing it this year), I am curious to know how you feel that is justifiably different?

No reply yet.....which is actually good because I have a second question:Why does the web address for "blackeyedjoe.com" print out on the bottom of a cheatsheet created from the Draft Dominator? I went to the website and here was the message I received:

You just got Punk'd by the SHARK in your league.

Again.

Did you really think he'd share his secret weapon with you?

Better luck next year, Rookie.

Your friends at www.blackeyedjoe.com

This action seems like it falls under the "giving disinformation" area of your post I quoted. Why would footballguys go to all the trouble of creating a fake website and providing the link to it on a cheatsheet?

Joe - I am honestly not trying to bust your balls here, but I would like to hear the justification for why some content provided by FBG assists its members with intentional deception.

The actions of FBG seem to both recognize and encourage this behavior .

Spreading disinformation is a time-honored tradition in my league. Last season, three of us flew out to the Vegas draft together, and spent the night bs'ing about football, fantasy football, our draft stratgey and related topics. It was pretty funny when all our lies were revealed on draft day.

Off his nuts. The website is just a joke. The FBG's staff are all good guys. However, I am not a good guy and do spread misinformation. :goodposting:

If your league is like mine people are telling you that to mess with your mind but really don't do it.

Is playing Devil's Advocate being misleading? I've done this on a number of occassions since some of my league mates have found this site. I've been known to play devil's advocate and bring up the knocks on a guy that I like. Think of it this way. By me bringing up the negative, those that come to this board are getting a more well rounded picture of the player.

er Joe don't take this wrong, but you realize that if you clamped down on disinformation and aliases in general, this forum would be a whisper of what it is now, right? Whether that's good or bad is debatable depending on your point of view (basically quality vs quantity I think), just FYI. It's an inherent part of the anonymity of the 'net/msg boards, unfortunately. PS (and FYI not ripping on anyone), but I have had at least 2 mods actually suggest that to "combat" aliases, I create an alias or 2 as well. :porked:
Need for an alias = ridiculous.
I was thinking childish and gay, but OK. I think we're both basically saying the same thing anyway.
