To clarify:

Kyle Orton-QB- Bears Aug. 18 - 4:07 pm et The Bears confirmed Monday that Kyle Orton will be their starter in Week 1 against the Colts.Don't expect him to last long. Orton will be on a short leash, has beatable LT John St. Clair guarding his blind side, and gets unfavorable matchups (@ Indy, @ Carolina, vs. Tampa Bay, and vs. Philadelphia) in the first four weeks. The Bears are likely to use multiple starting QBs during the season, be it due to injury or poor play. Orton's completion rate (63.2) through two preseason games is solid, but his yards per attempt average (5.2) is dreadful and he's thrown no touchdown passes.Source: Chicago Sun Times

Big whoop huh. Bears name Orton starter

This offense should be putrid, but this was the right move. We know that Grossman has talent, great arm, but hes a headcase and isnt changing. Give Orton a shot to show just how bad he can be.

Kyle, we have good news and bad news. Good news is you're the starter. Bad news is we open in Indy at the first game at their new stadium. No pressure....

ok, rabid Bears fan here and I wanna be the first to say that having three different threads about this is completely ridiculous.

So, he won the Bears starting job contest and starts week 1. Was second place getting to start weeks 2 and 3 and looking like crap behind that O-Line?

This only tells you which Chicago QB you should not be drafting. Orton looked better than Grossman so far, but his yards per pass is awful and he doesn't bring much upside to the table.

Still, he's the guy right now and it should merely remind us that at the end of the day, Chicago will struggle to give us any fantasy value through the air. Hester and Greg Olson might break out, but I would suggest staying away. Even Matt Forte is shaky when he's going to face stacked run D's all season.

That's because the chum in the shark pool don't know how to read the topics list before posting the same damn thing!

Personally, I was pretty high on taking Forte before the Seattle game, but after watching the OLine get blown up, I'd be hard pressed to take him or anyone on the Bears offense at this point.

Orton can't stretch the field, but if you can't pass protect what's the point of going down field deep?

I'm going to post in this one because I don't like swidman's attitude.

So do the Bears take Curtis Painter or Matt Stafford with the #1 overall next year?

Good year for QBs to come out as the Bears, Chiefs, and 49ers are all likely to pick top 5 and all need a QB.

If they don't address QB at the draft or in FA, I think the FO may be fire bombed....How long has it been since they legitimately addressed the QB situation in Chicago? If you count drafting Orton as legit fix to the QB situation then it's been 4 years. But I don't think Orton was a legit fix. More of a long shot. So then you have to go back to 6 years since they have really looked at the QB position....How can an NFL team wait that long to do something about their most important position?

You're asking that of a Viking fan?

:lmao: They really convinced themselves they had the future in sexy Rexy. I know they saw his occasional brilliant flashes of upside, but how long does he have to be consistent before you deal with the fact he just wasn't going to be the answer?

I'd like to see us cut Grossman out of spite, then sign whoever the Bucs cut. Or John Beck. Or someone's #######g grandmother, just get Grossman the hell out of a Bears uni.

Add Orton to the scrapheap of history:

http://www.bearshistory.com/lore/chicagobe...arterbacks.aspx
You can't cut him because he'll probably be starting by week 3 or 4 because Orton will most likely be carried off the field on a stretcher.
That's what Vinny Testaverde is for. Since the season is basically lost already, I say the Bears follow the spirit of Neckbeard and this post, and just go with a Pirate them all season. Puffy shirts under their unis, eye-patches (depth perception schmepth perception), plastic parrots, tri-cornered hats, the whole nine. Show the Bucs how to really do it. If we're going to get slaughtered every week, we might as well look absolutely ridiculous doing it. Then we can write off the whole year as "The Pirate Year"Hey, it worked for Senator Blutarsky.

You clearly get it!The only thing Orton has shown is the ability to get a bit to drinky and do it with a horrible beard.

When was Sid Luckman selected? In all seriousness, Angelo's unwillingness to revisit the QB position on a yearly basis has been criminal for an NFL gm. And if you look at his track record in drafting offense (Grossman, Benson, David Terrell, Marc Colombo all in the first round during his tenure), you have to wonder how much longer he has as the GM if the Bears are as bad as they look to be this year. The year the Bears had to start Orton as a rookie when Rex went down was an unbelievably irresponsible job by Angelo.

The entire Bears front office should be fired for not seeing this coming in the offseason when they could have actually done something about this.

There are usually a few offenses that I think are just going to be so horrid in a given year that I see absolutely no value to anyone on the offense from a fantasy football perspective. This year, Chicago is one of those teams.

We need a poll:Which will be the worst offense:Chicago BearsKansas City ChiefsSan Francisco 49ersAtlanta FalconsMiami Dolphins

Why do I have the feeling that there will be a thread for the starting CHI QB each week of the season?

Week 1 = Orton

Week 2 = Grossman

Week 3 = Back to Orton

Week 4 = Back to Grossman

Week 5 = Kevin Jones

Week 6 = The Hot Dog vendor

 You get the point!

I gotta say Bears. All the other teams at least have something going for their offense:

Chiefs: LJ and Bowe

Niners: Martz and VD

Falcons: Turner and White

Phins: RB Duo and blue-chip LT (+ vet QB)

Chicago is literally good nowhere on o.

I think if it goes this way, we should make Lovie take a snap for every time he said "Rex is our quarterback."

I'm not really excited about any of those offenses of course, but I can find at least one or sometimes two guys from each of those other teams I'd take. I won't take any Chicago players, so at least from a FF perspective, they rate the worst for me.At the right spot, I'd take Larry Johnson, Bowe and Gonzalez from KC. I'd take Gore and maybe a WR from San Fran. I'd take Turner, maybe Roddy White in Atlanta, and I'd take Williams or Brown from Miami. I can't imagine how far a Bear would have to fall before I'd grab them, but suffice to say, they won't fall that far.

I think Orton can be a decent enough QB on the right team - a team with a dominant run game & defense.

The Bears are very close if not there on defense, it's how he did so well as a rookie.

Okay, in all seriousness, from a fantasy perspective, I think this could probably be the worst Chicago offering EVER for fantasy players on offense. I still think Forte has potential, but it won't be noticed until late in the season. Their offensive line will need to play together for a few weeks to try as hard as they can to gel and get the running game going. If they don't IR Williams, he comes back around week 11 and plays out the season. This is when you might finally see the potential of the running game for Forte.

It's gonna be an ugly season.

Dude, the Bears won in spite of Orton that season. He was a rookie way in over his head. At least last year he played somewhat less like a deer caught in front of a semi on a highway. I'm hoping the defense plays the way it did in 2005. They will need to score at least one TD per game to keep the Bears in the game.

You list Martz and VD here? Why? Martz hasn't really done anything NFL wise. Great for Fantasy, but not the NFL. VD has done jack. How do you not mention Gore here?

I think Orton is a better game manager than Rex and while he is in there Booker and the TEs will do better than they would with Rex.

Well, not speaking for sholditch, but this is a fantasy football board.
