Osi Umenyiora out for year (1 Viewer)

per ESPN

Huge loss for the Giants who lose both their bookends. Without a consistent rush there porous secondary is going to be exposed. Tuck should be solid at one end, but now he is the focal point of opposing offenses. Their depth is very thin.

Does Strahan come back to help them out as a situational pass rusher?

One has to wonder is the Giants will give him a call.Renaldo Wynn/Justin Tuck/Kiwanuka is a serviceable trio, but nowhere near the Strahan/Umenyiora/Tuck trio.

So one would assume opposing offenses begin putting more points on the board. Do we bump up Manning and the receivers numbers?

This initial knee jerk about moving Kiwa back to DE seems a bit premature... I mean this is WHY they signed R Wynn.... one thing I am grateful for, since it happened in a Jets-Giants game, is that it was a freak injury, not a crack back or something dirty.

ZERO chance of Strahan coming back.... he went out with a ring, and wanted to retire before that.

That does however put a big hit on the Giants as a team... it was the D line that made the difference in beating the Pats. They still have two VERY good DT's.... but this hurts for sure.

If I was to name one player on defense that was most critical to the Giants success it would be Osi... this year and last.

God, I hate pre-season.

This was the player they could least afford to lose (including Eli). That secondary is going to get blasted now without his consistent pressure on the QB.

While I will never cheer injuries, this really helps my 'Boys.

Horrible to hear though, tbh. He's a stud and a great player. Brutal blow to G-Men.

:goodposting: Wynn is a solid vet, who can hold up against the run well. But a pass rusher he is not (25 career sacks - 11 years). Tuck is going to see constant double teams/chip blocks by opposing teams. Kiwanuka to end is not a knee jerk reaction, it is his natural position and where he should be playing. The Giants tried to act like Kiwanuka's move to LB was smooth, but he looked horrible there last season, and should be put back at end. he has pass rush ability and nice size at the position. Obviously one of the moves would be to make Kiwanuka the pass rushing end on obvious passing downs. He looks completely lost in coverage anyway.

Wow that is a big time injury. The Giants will continue to blitz and will get exposed some games I expect a drop off in their sack count. They play some potential high offense output teams STL, CIN, SEA, CLE, DAL twice, PHI twice,ARI, PIT. This includes up to week 16

Michael Strahan's response to possible return to Giants: "I haven't heard from anybody else so to say if I would or wouldn't is premature. So I'm enjoying my retired life right now"

I was already impressed last night watching the Viking D Line. Now I would say that Minnesota has the best defensive line in football.

Even if Osi were healthy, the Vikes d line would be better. Their two d tackles are the best in the league (Pat Williams, Kevin Williams), and jared Allen now pushes them to the top. Those 3 are going to make Ray Edwards alot of money.

AAARRRRRGGGGgggggghhhhh! ####!!!@@@##^^*?>??????My #1 DE in FBG's IDP league.

Did I mention AAArrr... nevermind. :sadbanana: :kicksrock: :tfp:
I feel your pain. I have him in a dynasty and it's a strong team. I officially apologize for what I called you when you took him in front of me.
My despondancy has lessened, I have the perfect replacement candidate and his name is.... :P

Such a shame. I'm a Cowboys fan & even I'm disappointed. Just as an NFL fan, I love to see Usi doing his thing. My pet peeve is people who root for injuries, or even those people who get happy because of an injury (for whatever reason...FF or otherwise). It really chaps my ###.

I don't root for injuries and I apologize if this violates the "be excellent to each other" policy on this board, but I sincerely hope you blow your knee out stepping out of the shower tonight.

big blow to the G-men. but as a Cowboys fan, i cant say i'm disappointed that he wont be comin after Romo this yr.

Huge loss - but they can't take back WORLD CHAMPS from us... have to take whatever this year gives, though its a shame that we cant bring the full team into even the first week.

I know its not that easy but I am in the camp of bringing Kiwi back to DE. It may not happen but from what I have seen, the Giants are much deeper at linebacker than they are at DE. Also, they managed without Kiwi playing linebacker at the end of last year.....I don't see whats so wrong without him as your LB this year.

The Giant backup QB's suck; Eli would be a bigger blow, but Osi is #2. With Strahan retiring I felt good because Tuck and Osi would be there. Losing Osi is a HUGE blow to this team.

The Giants let Kawika Mitchell go

Why you say this... yeah he went out with a bang... but he also said it was one of the hardest decisions he ever made. Now his old team needs him... and I'm sure the owner will call. MS' ego is a large one... he could come in and be ready to go by Oct.

He's right. Your avatar is classless. Similar to your second response of wishing injury on him.

Really Red Sox fan?Patriots print up 19-0 shirts before the superbowl and my avatar is classless?!?!? :lmao:

Not at all biased are you?

I'm admit my initial response was a bit harsh, but I have little tolerance for someone giving the 'ol thumbs up for a player getting injured.

Flying your team's colors is great. Mocking another team is classless.

Sure enough Patriots fan!The irony is thick, and I am out.

Good luck this year! :lmao:

 How do you think teams are able to give players championship hats/shirts, etc. right after the game? Because both teams have them made up beforehand.Do you think these items were printed up between the final whistle and the trophy presentation?

Apparently Already done.Kiwanuka to replace Osi at DE

You can't loose a pro-bowl caliber DE (make that two in Strahan and Osi) without hurting your team.

Having said that, the Giants have the all time sack leaders from Boston College and Notre Dame as their current starting DEs and with more depth at LB this season with Wilkinson, Clark and the two rookies to fill the void of moving Kiwi back to DE, I think, despite what many in the media are saying, the Giants might as well show up to play the games this season anyway.

Giants weren't going to make the playoffs anyway.
That thinking is just fine with me, and I have a feeling the Giants are great with it as well.It is often hard to pump up the "disrespect" angle when you are defending the Superbowl champs, but many already had the Giants not even winning their division before Osi was out.The Giants can legitimately play the year with a chip on their shoulder.
