I know that these lists will fluctuate (e.g. I expect that KC will fall to the bottom 5 by week four and stay there throughout the season) but this is how I see it after week 1.

Top 5 NFL teams after week 1

1. Dallas

2. Pittsburgh

3. Philadelphia

4. New Orleans

5. Carolina

Bottom 5 NFL teams after week 1

28. Washington

29. Cincinnati

30. Detroit

31. Oakland

32. St. Louis

What's yours?

But week 1 isn't over yet.
That's why god created the edit button.I can't imagine any of tonight's teams putting up performances that would cause me to put them in either category. The Vikes and Packers won't crack the top 5 best teams and I can't see the Broncos and Raiders being bad enough to make the bottom 5.

I would have to add the NY Giants to your top 5 list and drop out Carolina.SF will not be in the bottom 5 as the year goes on, but for now, your bottom 5 are pretty solid.

I had them there until I weighed that the Giants just squeaked by one of my bottom 5 teams where the Panthers OTOH went cross country without their best player and beat one of the league's premier teams on their turf. I put the Giants at #6.

New England barely beat a pedestrian KC team at home and lost their franchise QB to injury. Can those of you with them in your top 5 explain your thought process on this?

They still have the best receiver in the league, a very good receiver in Welker, a decent line, a good stable of running backs, and one of the best defensive lines in the league, a good but aging LB corps, the best coach in the league, and a very solid defensive backfield. They had every reason to quit in that game, and the Chiefs had every reason to think they could steal one, but the Pats still prevailed. While other teams may have looked good in week one, I don't think you can move them down until you see how they do against the Jets next week.

:excited: And don't forget about the soft schedule that they have as well. They still should be able to push out 11 or so wins.

I think that we can conclude one thing from this thread...The NFC East is GOOOOOOOD
I had 3 teams (Dallas, Philly, NYG) in my top 5.Thats going to be a great race to see who wins that division... not so much with the NFC WEST

At the risk of losing all my credibility on this message board, SF is close to being a good football team. It is true I am a fan of the team, but I am not a particular fan of Mike Nolan and I try to be somewhat objective, but I think this season will bear this out.

Top 5

DAL

PIT

PHI

CAR

SD

I think SD was in a lot of ppl's top 5 preaseason and picked to challenge NE as well. They were a a tipped ball TD away from winning that. CAR won, so they go ahead of them. I think NYG is the only other team Id really consider here, but they def tailed in that game and Eli looked like the Eli of 2007 regular season, not playoffs.

Bottom 5 (last is worst)

SEA

MIA

CIN

STL

DET

MAYBE OAK could slide into the bottom 5, but I have a feeling that game should be somewhat good. I think DEN is underrated this year a little, but I dont see them blowing OAK out. If anything, maybe OAK puts on a ATL-lite performance of yesterday

I don't have too much problem with most of these lists, except I think Indy and the Chargers deserve more love. One game shouldn't be enough to judge them by. Indy would be in my top 5 right now, while the Chargers just out of it.

As far as bottom enders go, I think Cincy and Detroit are going to be competing with each other all year long for worst defense. The Bengals also may have the worst offensive line, as well...

Top 5 NFL teams after week 1

1. Dallas

2. New Orleans

3. Pittsburgh

4. San Diego (Don't matter they lost still a top 5 team)

5. Philadelphia

Bottom 5 NFL teams after week 1

28. Seattle (They might be at the bottom if they keep getting injuries)

29. Detroit

30. Washington

31. Cincinnati

32. St. Louis

I see a lot of people with Philly/Dallas in their top 5. Must say I can't wait for that match on MNF; great D (Philly) against a great O. Eagles offense will really have to step it up against the Dallas D to take it IMO.

1. Dallas (I hate typing that)

2. Pittsburgh

3. Philly

4. Green Bay (Rogers is for real!)

5. San Diego, with several other teams nipping at thier heels (Giants, New England, Carolina, maybe Indy)

WORST:

28. Seattle (injuries have killed this team!)

29. Washington. (No run defense)

30. Detroit (no defense at all)

31. Kansas City (no offense at all)

32. Saint Louis (If they aren't bottom five, Philly is #1!)

Cincy would have replaced Seattle without the newet injuries.

Only 2 posters have New Orleans in their top 5. :hophead:

Porter looked solid yesterday! He and Gay are both upgrades..............same goes for Kaevarshan. Bullocks needs to be on the bench.

The offense speaks for itself.

1.Giants - defending champs, number1 until they lose, nice division win (eagles fan here, kills me to write that)

2.Dallas - Alot of talent, road win vs afc

3.Chicago - dominant road win against good afc team

4.Pittsburgh - talent, easy win at home

5.Carolina - road win against good AFC team

6.Denver - Dominating division rival on the road

7.Philly - good teams crush bad teams at home (see Pitt)

8.Green Bay - tough division win

9.New Orleans - close win against division opp

10.Buffalo - Dominant home win against weak NFC team

OAK and STL played with such exceptional ineptitude that I cannot bring myself to rank one below the other.

Most of the people (last 10 posts) who have put Green Bay and New Orleans in the top 5, REALLY?!?!??

New Orleans had a very good win, but they beat a division foe that was the 6th seed last year basically on big plays, and TB could have won it on the last drive. You need to see a lot from that team still, esp on D, to put them in the top 5.

GB had a better win possibly than NO, but I think a lot of ppl have overrated MIN. When people are saying youre a super bowl contender and you havent even made the playoffs yet, that screams hype to me. I think GB is superior to MIN and deserved to win the game, but lets see them vs a team with a solid QB first, not to mention teams more diverse on offense (not obvious running teams)

Both have potential, and I think MIN could maybe sneak into the payoffs, but I wouldnt put either top 5

wrong.

I get that the Giants won the SB last year and all, but the hits they took on D will take a toll...especially against better teams. I thought they looked very pedestrian on thursday night. No way do they make my top five so far in '08.

1. Dallas

2. Pitt

3. Philly

4. Titans

5. N'awlins

You dont like the Giants, but you like the Saints? :X

1. New York Giants

2. Dallas Cowboys

3. Pittsbugh Steelers

4. Philadelphia Eagles

5. Green Bay Packers

Worst 5, starting with the worst first:

1. Detroit Lions

2. Cinci Bengals

3. St. Louis Cards

4. Oakland Raiders

5. Seattle Seahawks

Tier #1

1. Dallas

2. NY Giants

3. Pittsburgh

4. Green Bay

5. New England

How crazy is it that 3 of my top 4 teams are from the NFC??!!! However with the Brady injury and Indy and SD both losing at home its tough to not do that. New England is obviously the toughest team to rank, and I'm not going to argue too much regarding them right now.

Tier #2

6. San Diego

7. Indy

8. Denver

9. Chicago

10. Philly

11. Buffalo

This is a crazy tier. We start off with two top teams who both lost at home. Then we have 4 teams who weren't expected to be that great by many but had great week 1s. I leave SD and Indy ahead for now, and I give Denver and Chicago the slight nod simply because they did it on the road. We'll know a lot more about these teams after next week imo.

Tier #3

12. Tennessee

13. Jacksonville

14. Minnesota

15. Tampa Bay

16. New Orleans

17. NY Jets

18. Carolina

19. Seattle

20. Washington

Jeez its tough ranking these teams. Seattle and Washington both looked horrible, but I hesitate to drop playoff teams too far down after one road loss.

Tier #4

21. Arizona

22. Baltimore

23. Houston

24. Cleveland

25. Atlanta

26. Kansas City

27. Cincy

28. Miami

Atlanta and Baltimore still have to prove it to me. Arizona could easily move up soon and probably will if they beat Miami this week like they should. Was excited about Houston before week 1, but man that was bad.

Tier #5

29. Detroit

30. San Francisco

31. St Louis

32. Oakland

Detroit and San Francisco at least showed something on offense. St Louis gets the nod over Oakland since Oakland looked horrendous at home.

Assani Fisher - Im not going to quote that whole thing because itll take 1/6th of the page, but...

1 - CAR @ 18 is glaringly low. They just beat the team you have at 6, on the road, without their best offensive player Steve Smith

2 - I think you need to switch Philly with NE, and that makes those look a lot better. NE barely beat 1 of the worst teams of last year, and Philly crushed a team that was expected to approach 500. I think thats more on Philly than STL, but it doesnt look good for STL

3 - Switch Cincy and San Fran in their brackets, and they look good. Not sure why you would put BAL over ATL, CLE, or HOU, but OK. I know BAL won, but that was ugly.

All in All, pretty good. I question GB in the top 5, but they deserve to be there more than NE

Top 5 NFL teams after week 1

1. Dallas - Only Romo's Favre impersonations in the playoffs can stop them.

2. New Orleans - Firepower galore.

3. Pittsburgh - Class of the AFC?

4. Carolina - Add Steve Smith and look out.

5. San Diego - It's now or never.

Bottom 5 NFL teams after week 1

28. Detroit - 'Someday' sings Matt Millen. Someday they will fire you.

29. Washington - Not a surprise at all. Dan 'the meddler' Snyder getting what he deserves.

30. Cincinnati - Wow, what is going on there?

31. Oakland - Bad draft decisions doom them to years of mediocrity.

32. St. Louis - Start EVERYTHING you can against this mess.

1.Giants - defending champs, number1 until they lose, nice division win (eagles fan here, kills me to write that)2.Dallas - Alot of talent, road win vs afc3.Chicago - dominant road win against good afc team4.Pittsburgh - talent, easy win at home5.Carolina - road win against good AFC team6.Denver - Dominating division rival on the road7.Philly - good teams crush bad teams at home (see Pitt)8.Green Bay - tough division win9.New Orleans - close win against division opp10.Buffalo - Dominant home win against weak NFC team
Sorry but the Broncos are ranked too high and I'm a Broncos fan. The defense simply has way to many question marks (primarily LB). The offense is legit, but that defense will cost them games.

I know that these lists will fluctuate (e.g. I expect that KC will fall to the bottom 5 by week four and stay there throughout the season) but this is how I see it after week 1.

Carolina is the most perennially over-rated team, ever. Yes, I have divisional bias, but jeebus, they are someone's little darling Super Bowl pick every freakin' year and they have 3 winning seasons in their entire history. I will never understand it.
Code:
Yes, I'm fully aware of my own team's long and storied history of sucking. No need to remind me. But every other talking head isn't picking us for the Super Bowl every year only to be scratching their head when they go 7-9. Again.

Because we're talking week 1 and they beat one of the AFC's top teams, on the road, without their best player.Take a Ritalin, dude.
