Eagles / Jets Trade (1 Viewer)

New York and Philadelphia are completing a trade that will send cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets while the Eagles will receive a 2009 fifth-round pick and a 2010 conditional draft pick.

The pick could be as high as a second-round choice in 2010 and as a low as a fourth. But the eagles will get two picks and the Jets get Sheppard, who will be in New York Saturday for a physical.

5th that maybe turns into a 2nd huh? Yeah, thats much better than the WR and 1st that PHI could have picked up last year for Lito :lmao:

Pretty sure that was just a deal that fans were hoping for.
probably, but not my point. Trading him last year, when just about everyone was shouting for, would have resulted in a MUCH better deal than this. You're telling me you dont think Lito would've been worth at least a 1st last year?

No... if they could have gotten a first last year, they would have taken it for sure!

I would doubt a first, but I'm no expert. That doesn't change your overall point though. Consider2008 2nd or 3rd + Lito's 2008 production (minimal)vs.2009 5th + 2010 (2nd, 3rd, or 4th)I would have preferred the 2008 pick.edit - of course this includes plenty of hindsight, so maybe not quite so clear. but it is a worthy debate either way.

Trading him last year before they had confidence in Joselio Hanson would have been insane. As for getting a first for Lito, you clearly do not know much about value in the league. The most they were offered last year was a conditional 3rd round pick.

Sorry Buddy, i didnt realize you had come off the farm in Texas to post on this message board :shrug:Knowing what they had in Hanson, plus Sheldon and Asante and then making a decision based on that is EXACTLY what the FO is supposed to do. Know the skills of your players, maximize value in trades, and take necessary risks to improve your team.Sure, hindsight is 20/20, but just do a little searching and you'll see how many people were shouting for a Lito trade last year FOR THIS EXACT REASON

:lmao: Sure fans wanted to trade him for Boldin and Roy Williams, but just because you guys want a trade does not make it possible. I would figure a smurt guy like you would be able to figure that out. Not sure what the farm in Texas comment is about, but let me explain this to you slowly.Lito would have been traded last year if the Eagles would have been offered more then a conditional 3rd round pick. The Eagles can not trade their nickle corner until they were confident in Hanson. Hanson was a guy they got from SF that they hoped could develop into a nickle corner and after this past season they clearly feel that he could start at CB. Guess what... the Eagles FO did a fantastic job at spotting talent from another roster, brought him in and watched him develop into a pro bowl player. How you can fault them is beyond me.

Hmmm, not sure what to think as a Jets fan - He's fallen off talent wise, No?

Jets want a shutdown CB..... I guess they use him as insurance and still go after a CB in round 1...

Rookies don't step in right away all the time so, I guess it's just insurance, hopefully he doesn't get too much $$$$.

He is still a quality #1 CB. Not a shutdown corner or pro bowl quality, but a very good one. His main problems before last year were injuries. His main problem last year was his agent started a fight with ownership. He still has a lot of years left.

eagles have a way of giving off the notion that they have too many picks.

I can't recall a year where someone didn't say "did we really need another... what about soandso "

They trade for picks too often. It doesn't make the team better, just younger and less experienced.

The way I see it is that this is a good deal for both sides.

For the Jets, Lito will be terrific as the #2 CB opposite Revis. He's a playmaker and, while not a complete shutdown CB, he has held his own when placed into that role matched up with the other team's #1 WR. His acquisition makes for a strong 1/2 combo at CB for the Jets.

For the Eagles, they get decent value for a guy they, and the rest of the league, knew they couldn't keep. The #5 this year...whatever. Picks at that point are a crapshoot. I'm curious as to the conditions on the 2010 pick. Do the Eagles get a #2 based on a Pro Bowl appearance? Number of starts? Whatever it is, if the Eagles get a 2 or a 3 and 5 for guy like Lito who they couldn't keep, well done.

No, his main problem last year was that he played like crap and mailed it in. He got bypassed for the third CB position on merit.

Everyone wants a shutdown CB. Since they're on the verge of having one in Revis, all the Jets need is a competent #2, which I still believe Lito is.Good move for the Jets.

I agree with this. It buys the Jets some time.Lito's production has fallen off, whether or not his best days are behind him remains to be seen.

This is a totally reasonable trade IMHO. Sure I wish Lito was magically worth Boldin, but he's not. And when you consider what it's costing to sign mediocre CB talent [7mm for Foxworth, 9mm per for Hall, 8mm for Hayden], I love that the Eagles have Samuel, Brown and Hanson locked up and have now gotten what's likely to be a 5th and 3rd/2nd rounder for Lito. Suits me just fine b/c we don't need him, and he doesn't want to be on the team.
