LeRoy Hill-LB- Seahawks

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that the Seahawks have taken the franchise tag off LB LeRoy Hill,

making him a free agent.

A stunner. We didn't quite see how rookie Aaron Curry and Hill fit together, but we figured Seattle would find room for their solid veteran player. Hill immediately becomes the best free agent on the market, but we don't think he'll find a deal as big as the $36 million offer he rejected from Seattle earlier this year.

I bet he regrets not signing that franchise deal now.

Snyder, work your cap magic and make it happen.

Does he play strong side or weak side? everywhere I looked only lists him as a LB.

I guess the Seahawks were afraid he would sign the tender, otherwise why let him go so quick. They don't need the cap room until late June when the picks begin to sign.

I would have thought that they at least would have tried to recoup something in trade - but I guess they knew that they likely wouldnt get anything higher then the 3rd round comp pick they will likely get.

THe Saints can always use additional defensive help.

The one position the Bills didn't address in the draft that they needed was OLB. I think Hill would be an awesome signing for them. The Bills are actually making waves this year and wouldn't be surprised if they made a move to get him.

Our D would be solid if we got him:

Schobel - Stroud - Williams - Maybin

Hill - Poz - Mitchell

McGee - Whitner - Byrd - McKelvin

What are his demands? That will flush out many non-contenders for his services.
Turned down the Seahawks offer of 6yrs $36 million. Not sure what he wants or even the exact details of the Seahawks offer (i.e., guaranteed money)

Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks and linebacker Leroy Hill have agreed to terms to a multi-year deal, the team announced this evening. Hill, Seattle’s second of two third round picks (98th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft, has started 50 of 56 career games, totaling 321 tackles (237 solo), 13.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his career.

I am pretty pumped about this offseason thus far.

This is what Green Bay did with Antonio Freeman and another player. They removed the tag and then signed him. It doesn't cost them the tag next year I believe. Smart move, good management team in Seattle.

I know the contract stipulates that he will not lose any guaranteed money (ala Larry Johnson) if the commissioner decides to suspend him the incident earlier this year; but does it stipulate that he won't lose future guaranteed money if a future act of his results in a suspension?

I have no problem with the Seahawks agreeing to the former as they already know of it. However, I would think that if the Seahawks agreed to the latter, then they made a bad decision.

I don't have the direct link from the Seattle Times or Seattle PI but the contract did specifically say only for that incident and it will not cover future incidents so the Hawks are covered.
