2009 Player Spotlight Series
One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 120 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different. Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website. Thread Topic: Braylon Edwards, WR, Cleveland Browns Player Page Link: Braylon Edwards Player Page Each article will include:
In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:
Now let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis. |

Talent and future payday motivation will carry Braylon through 2009. However, I am very concerned about the overall effectiveness of CLE's offense.
Recs: 65 Yds: 1010 TDs: 6 |

Recs: 65 Yds: 1010 TDs: 6 Yep, I wouldn't expect high reception totals but his TD:rec ratio may be one of the best in the league. I'm not expecting him to repeat his 80/1300/16 campaign but 70/1100/11 with potential for more seems realistic. |

Cleveland's O should struggle and play from behind frequently. With Edwards as their only experienced WR I think he'll be the king of garbage time/dink-dunk production. 85 receptions 1100 yards 6 TD -------------------- "If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you d@mn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler."

Alright give him 1200. But I don't see Quinn having the success DA did with the longball to Edwards. -------------------- "If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you d@mn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler."

With Edwards as their only experienced WR I think he'll be the king of garbage time/dink-dunk production. 85 receptions 1100 yards 6 TD Braylon's at his best when he's being leaned on for big plays, last year he was asked to make big plays and possession catches and...well, you saw what happened. Robiskie was brought in to take over the sorely missed Vicius role, if he steps in and takes over immediately as I think he will that should open things up for Braylon to get back to his 7-8 targets/game big play making role. If Braylon's asked to do what he did last year then something closer to last year should be expected, it's possible but it's not part of the new regime's plan. Funny how things change in a year, this time last year many were talking about how great the Browns offense was, now they suck? Expectations last year were too high, this year they're too low. In reality they're somewhere in the middle, take advantage in your drafts. This post has been edited by MAC_32: Jun 9 2009, 06:46 AM |

I'm really starting to think this guy is underrated this year, and in dynasty leagues as well.
He played in a situation that was awful last year(it really can''t get worse than a month of Ken Dorsey) and while he had too many drops, he still showed his great ability and still averaged 15+ YPC. With Winslow gone, Braylon should see more targets, and will be the unquestioned #1 pass catcher on the team. Also, when Winslow was out last year, Braylon played really well. In 3 of the 6 games Winslow missed, Edwards had: 154-1 and a 2pt against the Giants 64 against the Jaguars 102 against the Eagles(with Dorsey which is probably 150+ with a competent QB) The other 3 games really can be thrown out due to the Dorsey factor and 2 were against Tennessee and Pittsburgh. I can't stress enough that Dorsey was the worst QB in the NFL last year, I doubt even Fitzgerald would have been able to have success with him at QB. Also, Edwards is playing for a new contract on a team that will constantly be throwing. My prediction: 75 catches 1,150 yards 10 TD's. Its practically robbery that he's available as a late WR2 in many leagues. |
