Player Spotlight: Marc Bulger (1 Viewer)

2009 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 120 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis Rams

Player Page Link: Marc Bulger Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

The offensive line has been snake bit with injuries each of the last two seasons but they've made moves to try to address it, Bulger is just a mediocre QB, all of the WR talent is unproven and seems to be on the injury report with frequency, and the offseason chatter/moves have led me to believe they want an attack that's more ground oriented.

I look at Bulger as one of the last ditch QB2's this season, if I have him I hope he's 3rd on my depth chart.

probably the poster child for 'undraftable' fantasy players..

will play for one of the 5 worst teams in the NFL, a team that will bottom feed in terms of time of possession, first downs, yards, scoring, etc..the Rams defense hasn't gotten any better, which means the offense won't have many chances to get on the field..

the Rams have no-name WR's and a new offense which won't be as pass-happy as the previous regime was, thus further killing Bulger's lowly status..

We won't even talk about injuries and/or poor offensive line play..

440/251/2720/11

identical to last year's dreadful stats..

I doubt that Marc Bulger is drafted in many redrafts, other than 16-teamers, but I have an odd feeling that he will be picked up off waivers during the season. His current ADP is QB29 and 193 so you can wait for a long long time to take him. I personally like Russell better and he is the next QB at 216 overall so I doubt that I draft Mr. Bulger.

Marc Bulger 280 completions in 460 attempts 60.9% 3082 yards 6.7 ypa 15 TDs and 11 ints

the Rams defense hasn't gotten any better, which means the offense won't have many chances to get on the field..
it also means they'll be playing a lot of catch up, which means a lot of passing. That aint all bad.
the Rams have no-name WR's
you must be a pretty casual FF player if you never heard of Avery. about 50/700/3 as a #2 WR on a pathetic team - as a rookie no less - is well worth noticing when filling out the rest of your team. oh yeah he's the go-to guy now too.
We won't even talk about injuries and/or poor offensive line play..
good idea, since last I heard most everyone was healthy, they dtiched the continually injured Pace, and the OL is significantly improved.
identical to last year's dreadful stats.. :goodposting:
:coffee: is right. I'm not predicting big things for Bulger to say the least, but EVERYTHING went as wrong as it could last year, and similar the year before that. avery is an up and comer, Jackson is a good pass-catcher, and most of all the OL is healthy and vastly improved. in bigger/deeper leagues he is at least worth a look. course if you prefer someone like T Jackson or Hill, go for it.

Avery getting hurt probably doesn't help things much, although it will give Bulger the entire preseason to throw to Robinson and Burton, plus McMichael is healthy and should be a decent sized part of the new west coast offense. It sounds like Avery will be back in time for the regular season and I kinda think Robinson (bet Atlanta wishes they held on to him now) will be the #1 anyway.

The o-line looks to be far better with Jason Smith taking over for a probably washed-up Orland Pace(not that he played much anyway) and a huge center upgrade in getting Jason Brown who I thought was the Ravens best o-lineman last season.

Bulger's glory days are long gone, but I think he can still be a decent QB2 and he's going undrafted in most leagues. I think with a little luck(like Jackson maybe making it through an entire year) Bulger could have a Pennington-like resurgence.

3,200 yards

19 TD's

11 INT's
