Player Spotlight: Derek Anderson & Brady Quinn (1 Viewer)

2009 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 120 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Derek Anderson & Brady Quinn, QBs, Cleveland Browns

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Not a single response to probably the most intense QB competition in all of the NFL training camps. I guess that the Cleveland QB job is not being discussed much because nobody has a strong opinion and/or nobody cares much based on the limited receiving options in 09 for the Browns. They were not very successful last year and this year they traded Winslow and Stallworth is out. They have Braylon Edwards, a marvelous athlete who has a propensity to drop easy catches and several rookies along with an aging veteran cast-off from the Saints. They have several TEs with none of them being a proven offensive weapon. Their supposedly top RB is slowing down and has not been featured as a receiver in quite a while. It boils down to whichever QB wins the competition almost automatically fits in at QB 30 something, near the bottom of the barrel.

I'll go with Brady Quinn as I suspect that he will manage the game more efficiently than Anderson, who has career totals of 43 TDs and 35 interceptions. I refuse to post Quinn's numbers as they don't prove my point.

Brady Quinn 490 attempts 280 completions 3180 yards 57% 6.5 ypa 15 TDs and 11 ints with 80 yards rushing and another 2 TDs

It is a good topic, but I have not seen much of it in the press.Maybe it's just where I live, or maybe the coaches & players are keeping a low profile on the topic, but I havnt seen much to say where we are on this.My thought is that if Anderson can regain the form he had two years ago, Quinn will have no chance. Of course, the team looks different and I'm not sure this is possible given the changes that have come about....either way, I will wait until camp before making a call. I am going to try to watch one or two pre season games to get a look for myself.

Bump...I'm looking to get a sense from the homers. Looks like Anderson to me, but would like to hear other opinions.

Quinn will be given the start just because Anderson stunk last year. I think these guys are undervalued though and whoever is the starter, will be a very solid QB2.
