Isaac Redman = 2009's Surprise TD Vulture (1 Viewer)

Issac Redman, an undrafted free agent running back out of Bowie State, could lead the Steelers in rushing touchdowns this season. Redman has been impressive in preseason with three rushing touchdowns and a YPC of just under 4.0. He has run with power and allusiveness and could fill the much needed role of short-yardage back in the Steelers' offense. While Willie Parker is a great outside runner, he has shown a lack of ability in converting short yardage opportunities and has durability concerns. Rashard Mendenhall has been very mediocre at best. He appears to be lacking the motivation necessary to be successful and rubbed many teammates and coaches the wrong way by not reamaining with the team last year after getting hurt. The fumbles are also a big concern.

Given the Steelers schedule with games against Cleveland (2), Cincinnati (2), Detroit, Detroit, Kansas City, Oakland and Miami, the Steelers goal line runner could easily approach 10 touchdowns. Isaac Redman looks to very much be the front runner for that position.

A developing story definitely worth following.

More information on Isaac from the Steelers website:

Story in Pittsburgh seems to be he may not make the team, with Tomlin saying that he wants 'football players' that can also fill niche roles - and apparently Redman doesn't qualify.

PS squad guy.
I think he's going to make the team with Frank The Tank slipping to the practice squad. His 10 yard TD run sealed the deal to me.He could have a similar role to what Gary Russell had last year.
Not much room for both he and Logan.IMO Logan's a lock.Zero reason to carry 5 backs and unfortunately Davis is a lock.

Might be hard to sneak him on the PS after the preseason he's had. I'd rather see Davis cut, but I'm not sure about the special teams ramifications.

Where does Mewelde Moore factor in?

Moore was always going to be the 3rd down back, not the goal line back.

I agree Logan is a lock, but not as a running back.I expect both of them to make it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I think both Davis and Redman will make the final roster as the 4th and 5th backs behind Parker, Mendenhall, and Moore.

Why is there a thread on this guy?

Someone mentioned Redman could have a similar role to what Gary Russell had last year.

Let's be generous and double Russell's '08 stats and give Redman 200 yards and 6 TDs.

So every third week he'll get you ~7 points rather than ~1. Awesome.

Not sure why doubling Russell's output is generous. Russell's short yardage ability was not "found" until the end of November and he was then used that way for the last 6weeks of the regular season plus 3 playoff games. In those nine games he scored 5TDs. Prorate that for a 16 games season and you are looking at about 9TDs. You may or may not give him an extra 1 or 2 because the early signs suggest he is better than Russel at getting in. In the end you have a TD vulture... thus the thread. If he pans out, Mendenhall's value goes further down the toilet. Parker has already been de-valued for thoughts that he won't get the TDs, so his value stands still. I guess we will know soon enough - when is the press conf.?

:sadbanana:

I really liked what he brought to the field. Easily the toughest between-the-tackles runner on the roster. Summers has just looked big, not tough. Parker is Parker, and Mendy is just a bigger Parker.
