Who (other than Colston) is the WR to have (1 Viewer)

Meachem, Henderson and Moore...all could be decent WR3's for your team. The trick is, finding the one that will be getting the most targets. Last year it was obviously Lance Moore. Presumably, he is almost 100% now, but Meachem and Henderson have both had pretty good preseasons.

Which of these guys do you think will emerge with the best stats in 2009?

:hophead: Moore is the guy who consistantly gets the targets from Brees. Henderson/Meachum will be the guys who get a long score every other week, but Moore will continue to be in the statline on a regular basis. He's your guy.

So all this Meachem hype should be ignored and taken as just another great preseason with no regular season production?

If both Moore and Colston stay healthy, yes. But I am not convinced of that so probably either Henderson or Meachem will have value at some point this season.

It's tough to say, because the Saints have too many weapons and Brees will throw to anyone.

If Bush is healthy, he is really the #2 receiver there...If Thomas is healthy as well, we know he catches passes. If Shockey stays healthy, he looks poised to have a big year, and at some point you know they are going to want to see what Meachem can do.

I think a lot of owners are overpaying for Lance Moore a bit, and in PPR leagues too risk averse on Reggie Bush. In the end, Shockey may be the safest value pick out of the Saints receivers, especially with Billy Miller done for the year.

Moore would have to be your PPR option. Both Meachem and Henderson are big play guys but generally will not catch a lot of balls unless Colston is out. Remember that Shockey is going to absorb some catches at tight end that went to WR's last year.

IMO the Saints receiving group can be broken into three tiers.

1. Colston - If he is healthy, he is the guy hands down

2. Moore, Bush, and Shockey - I think they all fill the dump off role and should see roughly the same kinda targets

3. Henderson and Meachum - These guys will hit the stat sheets with similar numbers each week. 2 rec 78 yards and a long TD. I just think it is going to be too hard to predict which one to run with. If you are playing best ball I love these guys. Now an injury to any of the others and I think the dynamics of these tiers can change, but as it stands, I don't think you can seriously count on them for consintant production. :wall:

I think you have to break Bush out onto his own tier. When he and Colston are healthy, they'll average 8-10 targets a game. Shockey and Moore will get 10 targets between the two of them.

When Bush is out, Moore is as valuable as Colston in PPR. When Bush is in, Moore & Shockey are downgraded significantly.

Assuming all healthy:

(1) Colston

(2) Bush

(3) Moore / Shockey

*I'd rather own Shockey at his ADP than Moore if Colston/Bush healthy. Moore's not startable if the aforementioned are healthy [look at Moore's stats w/ healthy Colston/Bush].

(4) Meachem / Henderson

I think Lance Moore is the best option after Colston. Henderson/Meachem will both have good games here and there but it's going to be very hard to predict when they'll have 100 yards + a TD...or 1 catch for 12 yards. Moore's numbers aren't great when Bush is healthy, but honestly, I don't expect Bush to play all year..he'll probably miss 5-6 games again this year either due to his knee, or his calf, or a hangnail or somethin'....

I dont buy the hype until I see him on the field healthy and getting more looks than Moore. For now it is what it is, hype. He is worth a flyer at the appropriate draft spot.

This.I've actually been a big fan of Moore since I first saw him in New Orleans and had a feeling he'd eventually win the #2 job. The thing is, his #'s last year when both Bush and Colston played simply weren't that good. Now, how many games will that be this year? That's a great question and you can definitely do worse than L. Moore. I definitely wouldn't waste anytime with Devery whatsoever. Meachem is still an enigma but I wouldn't pay until he finally shows something. As an fyi, Brees threw for over 5k yards last year. We all know that. What might surprise some of you is that, despite throwing for 5,000+ yds, there wasn't a single player on the team with 1000 yds. It's amazing to me. It also shows that Brees will be willing to throw to anyone. Thus, the only real value at WR for New Orleans is Colston. And if healthy, could have another monster year.

In my main money league I drafted Moss, Bowe, and Braylon Edwards as starters....(tedd ginn 4th) when it came time to draft my 5th WR I could have had any number of WR's who were WR#2 on their team but took Meachem instead. My rationale is that he may not pan out BUT if there is an injury or the hype is real and he passes Moore (who was pretty much a nobody till last year) he will have great upside. If I had drafted a weaker set of wr's I would likely have went for someone safe. Who you draft is always situational.

Meachem for me. Pretty confident thinking that Moore peaked statistically last year and Meachem did not. Is Lance Moore better than Brandon Stokley?

It all comes down to the play calling, and while Sean Payton's job is more secure than the average NFL coach, I think he's at a point where he needs to take a chance or two more (not Moore) and I think Meachem is that guy.

I think that Lance Moore gets short-changed in most of these discussions due to the fact that he was an undrafted free agent. Which is sort of odd since everyone counts on Colston, who was a 7th round pick.

However, he has been through the Saints system and earned his keep last year. He has a lot of savvy and seems to always find a crease and get open. I agree with the others that state that as long as Bush and Colston are healthy, then his numbers will likely not be on par with last year.

However when one or both of them go down, then Moore will be the go-to guy for Brees as they have great chemistry. And in fact, he will probably be more reliable than Shockey.

Henderson or Meacham will be the hit or miss options that might have a few non catch games mixed in with a 3 receptions for 112 and a TD game. Difficult to know when they will be involved.
