Troy Polamalu (1 Viewer)

Any doctors in the house? What's everyone's take, did the Madden curse strike, is he out for the season? Does this slow his 4.3 speed down, or will he be back in the second half of the game?

The way his leg bent, did not look pretty, reminiscent of some of the injuries we've seen where linemen have fallen on a QB and taken them out for a season, etc.

Polamalu is a tough guy and didn't have to get John Deered off the field, so that's always a plus, but if he's out for any significant period of time, it is huge news as the Steelers defense is not even close to being #1 with him out...

I think you may have to wait a couple of days if he doesn't come back in the 2nd half. Not sure anyone's gonna be able to diagnose him from watching the game on TV.

I understand, just looking for some estimates, it looks similar to what happened to Matt Cassel, so I'm thinking Polamalu might be out for the next 2 games.Cassel Injury

this isnt a video game, Shaun. Every injury is different no matter how similiar they look on TV. We wont know anything for a few days unless it is really serious in which case we might know tomorrow.

Thank you Captain Obvious,FWIW - I'm guessing MCL sprain, out for 2 games, maybe 3.

Adam_Schefter

@SI_PeterKing I've already gotten texts from people that are hearing it's not good. Don't know if they're right - just hope he's OK.

Dude c'mon, thought you had something with that vid. That looked nothing like what happened to Polamalu. I've never seen a player take a hit the way he did in the position he was in. I'm GUESSING based on what I saw, it's much, much more serious.

Im thinking MCL injury at least, he had a valgus stress on the knee (force on the lateral knee, causing stress on medial side) Can usually walk after it

Well youre asking for estimates for which no one knows. Good luck in your research.

Actually i dont think he will be out too long maybe one game max, the way he fell this sounds gay but he spread his legs to avoid major injury. He looked ok walking to the locker room on TV too.

Javon Walker walked off the field after he tore his ACL with the Packers. Just sayin.

He was walking very gingerly on the way out! I actually wondered if he also hurt his groin when it first happened.

I read that Troy gestured that it was not that serious on his way to locker room. FWIW.

I'd bet the Steelers made the decision with the season in mind, not just tonight or next week. If he misses 4 games, fine. If he misses 15.5 games, that sucks.

I hope the steelers act like jerks, aka the patriots, and dont say a word regardless of the extent of the injury.

Tomlin "MCL sprain", not sure how bad, mentioned 3-6 weeks.

Right now, I am more worried about the running game. Mendy better step up and earn that first round contract. We dont need another Tim Worley!!!

Grade 2??? It sounds like PT will be out 4+ weeks with supposedly a Grade 1. Doesn't sound good to me. At least it doesn't appear to be season ending.

yeah. donovan mcnabb played more than a half with a broken ankle IIRC against the cardinals. this looked bad, real bad. i know what tomlin said. i say he doesn't play again this year. if he doesn't he packed a year's worth of plays into that first half. that INT was sick.

So now you're a doctor/athletic trainer. Good to know... :)

Looks like it's being confirmed, all the news I'm seeing is an MCL sprain and out for 3-6 games.

I'm not a Steelers fan, but I love the way Polamalu plays. That interception last night was a great play. I hope he's not out long.

I'm no doctor, but as my name implies, I have had a torn ACL. Yes, every injury is different, but I didn't think his LOOKED that bad. I hope that it is nothing more than a sprained MCL as the initial reports indicate.

This is what Tomlin was speculating last night and so far there have been no updates that I am aware of.

As did Terrell Davis, Tom Brady and Jamal Anderson. As have I; twice.Walking it off is not an indicator of how serious the injury may be.

I'm obviously not that level of athlete, but when I tore my ACL, I had no idea. About two weeks later, when I went out to play again, my lower hamstring started giving me problems. When my doctor told me I had a "non-functioning ACL" I said "No, its my hamstring."I'm not saying that he tore his ACL, I don't think he did, both because of the initial reports and because of the direction that it bent.

you must be very proud of your torn acl

Oh, both times I did it I knew it immediately. But after eventually getting to my feet and walking off, I tried to convince myself that I'd be alright. MRI results proved otherwise.

That's why it is such a strange injury, it really is different for everyone. Before I experienced it myself, I could never believe it when a guy finishes the game, then finds out he's done for the year afterward - Olandis Gary immediately comes to mind.

Knee injuries take a while to properly diagnose - they won't know the severity of the sprain/tear until the MRI comes back. I've seen some players take injuries that look horrible, but because they are flexible enough no tear is incurred. I've seen other players "tweak" a knee running out of bound and then 2 days later it is announced they tore or partially tore their PCL or MCL - it really is difficult to make an accurate initial diagnosis on knees, is what I'm trying to say.

We'll know more when the docs get a closer look under his skin through the MRI.
